    Full foot fins are generally lighter and more flexible and are designed for snorkeling or diving in warm waters where the amount of equipment needed for diving is reduced, therefore reducing the energy required to propel the diver through the water. Full foot fins are designed to be worn barefoot or with specifically made fin socks which help to reduce discomfort from prolonged use.
    Open heel fins are typically heavier duty fins engineered to produce significantly increased propulsion for divers. Open heel fins are by far the most commonly used fin for diving, especially in cooler waters where increased thermal protection and equipment is required to safely enjoy diving. The extra equipment that the diver carries also increases the resistance when moving through the water which means the fin materials need to be stronger and stiffer to work effectively.

    Love those RK3 fins! Not the easiest for flutter kicks but perfect for frog, back and helicopter kicks. Great control.

    I recently bought Deep 6 Eddy fins and am loving them. Highly recommend them, one complaint I do have is that they only have 3 small drain holes so it takes a while for water to drain out. Very similar to the apex fins in the video

    Got the mares Avanti in red. I'm so glad i bought them instead of the atomic.

    I recently switched to quattro+. Solid all-rounders. Love that their colour applies to the whole fin instead of just accents.
    I don't trust hinges, they look like failure points.
    Split blades make no sense, unless you explicitly want to sacrifice push power for an easier kick (ie. if you are prone to cramps).
    And tech fins are very monotonous. All brands look identical. At least they've started to make them in colour now, so I would consider that orange RK3.

    I’m using Hollis F2. It’s perfect for me, very comfortable, efficient kick, not so heavy like other jet fin, fit nicely in my gear bag.

    • @jeepdude7359

      Great set of fins, but I would like them to add a small carabiner hole to the tip like the RK2’s

    Ive got the tusa hyflex switch absolutely love them very light compared to my hollis f1s which are also amazing only downfall is their weight so cant travel abroad with them...

  • @chiranagheorghitaeugeniuth98

    The jetfin. Strong, powerfull and fast. A little weighty but helps wen wearing drysuit.

    Scubapro Seawing Nova fins, love them when using wetsuit.
    Apeks rk3 HD, feeling not much different in general after seawing nova fins, but with drysuit apeks rk3 hd are superior. Seawings bit too loose with drysuit, not used the seawing nova gorillas.

    I have the Nova's in white. Keep meaning to clean them. What I did notice is when I started using them my legs ached, maybe a different strength of fin. After a couple of weeks it was all fine but I do wonder if other people notice it when changing fins.

    • @azizkhan8554

    • @charlesg7926
      @charlesg7926 Před 2 lety

      I have the Dive Rite XT’s and I don’t recommend them. They’re not precise enough to give you the back kick & frog kick needed to pass a cave diving course… and they aren’t as good for swimming as the Avanti Quattro’s.

    • @charlesg7926
      @charlesg7926 Před 2 lety

      I recommend getting the Apeks MK3 for Tech/Cave diving and Mares Avanti Quattro’s for ocean diving. I ended up getting the Dive Rite XT fin for “both worlds” and it ends up sucking on both ends

    I dont like split fins at all. I would never say they are efficient

    • @GastrophetDrum
      @GastrophetDrum Před 6 lety +2

      Only gonna speak to the atomics, I feel they are very efficient, if you know how to use them, very different technique from more convential fins, takes a bit of adjustment. I own avanti Quattros as well, love them both, prefers the atomics down below, and the Quattro on the surface. Been using fins for 25 years, and these are my two favorite pairs, of probably 8 or so models I have used.
      The atomics are stiffer than most splitfins and one can get some real power out of them, unlike some of the others.
      But of course it is all preference.
      I just get further faster with less effort, even in moderate current with the Atomics...efficient.

    • @XiraKira13
      @XiraKira13 Před 5 lety

      @@GastrophetDrum for the atomics, A lot of people complain that it's too spacious in the boot section. I know the boot space is taller to accomodate for dry suit divers. I wear size small 3 mm dive boots and size small fins. Do you think the atomics would fit me? I'm a girl, and a florida diver.

    • @GastrophetDrum
      @GastrophetDrum Před 5 lety

      @@XiraKira13 I think they would probably fit, you might want to get 5mm booties, but they'll probably work with the 3mm, depends on how thick the sole is, that sort of thing, so it's hard to say. I would heartily recommend the spring straps, they make life so much easier it is definitely worth the extra expense in the long run. Honestly, the best thing to do would be to go to a dive shop and try them out, see how floppy, or not floppy they are. Fitting of gear is so subjective...

  • @aletasrojas

    would you recommend the new mares excite or excite pro over the quattros? unfortunately the quattros don’t have XS size so i’m looking for alternatives

    It’s like he is reading the labels & just repeating with no opinion or personal input..
    There is no best fin it Really depends on the diver.
    Mares are a mid range design that pleases most people but they are not ideal for all situations.just generally ok all round
    If your in a current the vortex created by split fins will be wiped away & the harder you fin does not reflect much on your output as the fin just folds & becomes up down resistance not propulsion.although in a lake or average fin speed without too much current they are easier to cruise a bit faster with so they are actually very good for smaller divers smaller kit or lakes etc (smaller diver mass & hydrodynamic resistance = less folding of blade (wastage)
    Hard Tec fins are suitable for bigger people stronger legs & usually Drysuits as you need more force to push you through the water so stiffer fins take more kick without folding up.
    The scuba pro nova negate the folding by having a stopper design that only lets the blade fold to an optimum level.
    The problem is they are a gender & kit neutral design so bigger guys in Tec gear will fold them easily to the max out point & not get the push so they created the gorilla version which has less flex..
    I also like the force fins & the slingshot fins the latter having adjustable straps to alter resistance thus fitting diver hydrodynamic profiles but the problem is the springs do wear out eventually & the hinge part catches fishing line...
    So depending on your build & kit you choose your kit..in the ocean I’d tend not to use split fins.but in a pool in shorts or wetsuit there the most natural fast cruisers saving energy...but fast bursts are wasted...
