That two-phase test is super thorough. Love how you didn't just go with gut feelings but actually measured everything. Data nerds unite!
thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
The fact that you have personal experience with some of these fins adds so much credibility. I trust your picks!
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Huge effort Andy, much appreciated
Glad you liked it :)
Great info for newbies and experienced divers. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
Always love these articles to stay up on new equipment. Bought my first pair of Jet fins in 1968. Also use Nova fins full foot and open heel. Used Mares & Cressi on a rental dives, they were comfortable.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. That's a lot of years with fins. Which ones were your favorites?
That testing process is no joke! Appreciate the dedication to giving us the lowdown on the best fins out there
Thanks. We're glad you can use it.
Awesome, appreciate the effort you put into this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, never realized how much of a difference the right fin can make! Need to rethink my fin game.
Agree :)
I'm all about that flutter kick life, so seeing the sewing Supernova and fourth element Tech fin top the list is super helpful
Great to hear! Hope it should help you picking the right fins.
Damn good review, super comprehensive and detailed. Much appreciated.
We're glad you liked it.
Great video, Thanks
Glad you liked it!
really comprehensive .. thanks for your efforts on this
Glad you liked it.
Great video man 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Glad you enjoyed it
Really good analysis! To add a little detail to the RK3s, the regular fins are effectively neutral, but when you're tuning your trim the HDs with their higher density are noticeably heavier and less buoyant. Per pair the HDs are about 0.3kg/0.6lb negative for Medium, going up to 0.4kg/0.8lb negative for Super.
Great point! Thanks for the add on.
Very solid review… nicely done, sir!
Thank you!
great review!
Thanks
Thanks much for the comprehensive review. I learned much from this. Btw my go to fins are the Apollo Bio Fins. It is a Japanese product which might not be widely available where you are, and not included in your test. However is is a great product. A split fin from solid rubber material. Great ease of finning like split fins but with great solid feeling of the channel fins. You should try and review it one day.
Hello, nice test ! I would have like something about the easyness of those fins, if they are heavy to use or not. Having small legs heavy fins exhaust me a lot so wobly ones are easier. But to go backward with wobly fins is very difficult ! I was interested in the Apeks RK3 but I am afraid they could be quite stiff and then maybe tiring to use...
As someone who struggles with knee pain, I'm seriously considering giving split fins a chance now. Thanks for shining a light on them!
That's a really good idea.
Be careful, the ones I've used , were fine going slow to medium speed , but loose power when you are kicking hard like in a rip ☠️😲
The video content is long, but it's not boring. It's a really great experiment.
For your information, I've been using U.S. Diver's Compro open hill and Mares Plana Avanti Tre full foot Fins.
Cool, thanks
The Tusa Switch Pro is much better than the regular Switch. I found the regular too floppy as well. The Pro is much stiffer and more efficient which also translated well to frog kicks.
Thanks for the video, great job. I’m a commercial diver looking to switch from my Apollo split fins when diving in current. How would you compare the seawing supernova to the original seawing nova? First time seeing the supernovas. Thanks in advance.
Hi There,
Just as good power, also why we named the Supernova the Best Power fin. Just added that you can take it apart for traveling.
Excellent Job. 1 thing you referred to the size you wore but not your shoe Suze for a reference
9/9.5 depending on the brand.
Would be useful to rate fins for dive type e.g. wreck and cave diving suitability...in which case splits and overly long fins are OUT
I have wide feet and need large pockets any suggestions?
What fins for quiet snorkeling ?
Nice video try some asian made fins next time like gull or problue
Very informative video! Appreciate the effort. Would love if there were chapters added for each fins though
There should be in the description.
How would you rate the Apecs RK4 ? Thanks for this great reviews.
We haven't tested them yet, but they look great.
Only one color for Mares Power Plana fins? Just scored Tactical Green colour (camoflage) from England in April of 2024! Super Sweet Looking!!!
Thanks for making this awesome video. 'Appreciate your efforts!
Thank you for your comment! We're glad you liked the video!
Does anyone know if the crissi frog + float ? I like the regular frog weight for snorkeling, doesn't float, quiet fins
Thank you for the comprehensive review. I have been wanting to change my all time favorite Apollo Bio Pro Split Fin (aka my only fin since 2004) to Scubapro Seawing Supernova, but I am afraid they would be too stiff and cause ankle cramps. Any tips for a split fin user like me who wants to change to blade fin? Thank you.
Do you have ankle/cave problems, or is it just a thing you're worried about? I've dived a lot in splitfins, but I don't have issues going from split to paddle fins.
Why do you want to change from split fins?
Hi, thank you for replying. It’s just a thing i’m worried about. I want to change to that specific Supernova, merely because of the two piece design - looks easy to pack for travel and the good review about that fin - for speed and power in strong current.
lead Dive tours in honolulu hawaii 4 wrecks and reefs all day and that strong surf, the mares quatro fins are my winners. they are light for the amount of diving i do and they flick back after each kick for extra thrust. legs dont get tired and they move me fast. ive used hollis, oceanic, scuba pro and aqua lung and the split fins same as on here. they all arent worth the dollar they are charging in my opinion but the hollis do have strong thrust but are heavy too heavy.
Thanks for adding to the video. The Quatro fins are very popular for a reason.
Great video. I’d like to see the weight in water of each fin. This is an extremely important information when choosing a pair of fins and the video misses this datapoint.
Great suggestion! We'll consider this for future updates.
Where are the Slipstreams tho? Those are really good fins too.
Great recommendation. We'll consider that one for a future update.
For the travel rights wear socks with them it literally makes a huge difference for the strap.
Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
@@DIVEindotcomno problem. when I bought them. I noticed the strap had a loose feeling, and it felt like they wanted to slip off in the water. Put my neoprene socks on, and the issue was solved, and my feet stay warm, so win win.
Also do you plan to do a video like this but for mask. If so I'm hoping to see what your review will be on the tusa paragon s, tusa zensee pro, and some fourth element mask.
how about Gull Super Mew fin?
We did not test them, but will consider them for our next round of testing. Thanks for your suggestion!
I don't understand why you have only 3.82K subs.
Me neither. Remember to share the videos to all your friends so we'll get more subs.
Booo mine are not in the video. Tecline Light Jet fins are brilliant, the absolute best you can find especially if you travel often 👌🏽
Thanks for sharing!
So which one is the best of the best? I dont mind about the price, I want to buy one for reliability long term investment.
That is the best question ever.
For any fin, it depends on your finning style and your needs.
If you're traveling a lot then pick the Aqualung Storm fins voted Best for Travel. We found that the Dive Rite XT fins work best for Frog Kick so if that's your go-to kick style, then these are the ones to pick. If you're looking for heavy fins then pick the Zeagle Recon fins rated Best Paddle-Style fins.
We rated the ScubaPro Jet Fins as the Best All-Around fins, so that would be a good pick for a fin that does it all really well.
One of the most popular for Tec divers, the Deep 6 Eddy not in the mix?? WTF
It's also one of the least accessible fins, so why should they? Almost everything they are showing you can find, in person, worldwide. D6 products, well, are only found in the US...
We're reviewing them now, but they didn't arrive on time and therefore weren't included.
Thanks for suggesting fins for this. It's great to hear what gear you'd like to see in these guides and when we do an update on this.
lol we need an excel for this 😂
We know it's a lot. We hope it still helped a bit :)
@@DIVEindotcom yes! tyvm
also this is logged in my lady account on her laptop lol I am a 5'10" 160lb guy i run everyday im 29 years young. just to get idea of what kinda body type is favoring the mares quatros
HA ha the photo will throw most people off :)
My legs usually sink, it would be awesome if instead of weights you could attach buoyant little inserts there…
This can often be solved by adjusting your buoyancy instead.
Try to bend your knees so you are in a position to kick the "modified frog"?
Why only one brand of split fins? How do the reviewed Atomic Aquatics SplitFins compare with Apollo Bio-Fin Pro and with Oceanic Vortex V12 and others I haven’t heard of?
Not everyone wants to buy into jet-style fins, you know…
We spend a long time reading reviews and researching the market before making our choice. In the end, we couldn't test all the fins on the market in the first run, but we will be updating this guide at some point, and adding more brands and models to the results.
@@DIVEindotcom Understood, thanks. I sincerely appreciate your effort! it has definitely already been quite extensive
Where are the deep 6 eddys??
I was hoping , them in the review too
At the D6 shop. You can't find D6 in most retail shops in the states, let alone on the international market so kind of pointless to review them since they are so inaccessible.
@cruelolol Absolutely not pointless. Pick up a phone or a computer and order them. They are not in retail shops because they sell directly to the consumer, but that does not mean they are hard to get... in fact, they are easier to get. To say it's pointless to review one of the best finds on the market because they don't play the markup game of selling through dive shops is idiotic.
@tvelocidad lol yeah okay bro. Have you seen the costs to ship a pair anywhere outside of the US? Don't take my word for it. It's been talked to death on scuba board for years. Typical American, can't fathom anything that doesn't effect them.
We're testing them now, and will add the review later.
This is like project farm without the graphs
That's a really big compliment. Thank you. Project farm is making fantastic videos,
No xDeep!?
No, but we'll add them to the list for our next round of testing. Thanks for your comment!
For your helicopter turns, the rotation should be with the fins. You're using your whole body and just really lacking any finesse. It helps if you don't look down and cross your arms.
You missed the focus here. Andy is using the same techniques to test a huge amount of fins for comparison; more fin types than any other online evaluation up to this date. If you want to criticize, criticize the testing. Crapping on a huge and honest effort like this is petty. Feel free to post your link to your “superior finning techniques” channel.
Thanks :)
No deep.6 eddy?? You guys miss one of the best fins.
Yes, it's not included, but we're testing it and will be adding it to the guide once we're don with the test.
The faster you kick smoke on the water the faster it goes, you can not kick that fast with nonsplitfins because it is to heavy to make the same movement. There is no drag with smoke on the water but with nonsplit fins it is. After 45 min dive you can still move as fast as you like with smoke on the water but with nonsplitfins you will absolutely take it slow. It is fun to go fast when you want to and fun is the point with sportdiving.
Just buy RK3s and be done with it.
