If you do use a slow cooker, watch how much liquid you add. You need less so start with maybe 2/3 of these quantities and add more if needed.

You can also peel the wood off of the asparagus ends, down to the white part, and use them just as you would the asparagus tops.

To get the brine taste out of the jackfruit, soak it first. I've even seen some vegan cooks boil it after soaking it in order to eliminate that brine taste. Then add it to whatever recipe you are making.
