I saw "The Thing." I need to go back to see "The Thing" when I go back to Arizona.

If Douglas Adams was alive he would approve of this very “Hitchhikian” museum.

Lol! We saw the Thing a couple months ago on our way to an apple farm in southern Arizona. We got a good kick out of it, mostly out of the build up for it but whatever, it was a fun little random adventure and I’m satisfied I can tease others with the suspense about the Thing when they have no idea what it is 🤣
I’m going to have to someday visit the Worlds Largest collection of the worlds smallest replicas of the worlds largest things. What a fun idea 😍

Billboard 1: "Come See. " Drive a half-mile or so.
Billboard 2: "The World's." Drive another half-mile or so.
    Billboard 3: "Largest." Little further.
Billboard 4: "Prairie Dog. Prairie Dog Town!"
I don't know if this is still a thing. But around 1993 or so I went with my then-girlfriend to Colorado to see her dad. We went through Kansas and along the way was, "Come See....
We stopped. We did not pay to go in. Did not seem worth it.
But those ridiculous billboards.... I love them still.

Physical memories, a lot more interesting than hearing somebody talk about a trip. Thank you.

I was lucky to get to visit Lucas, KS ("Grassroots Art Capital of Outsider Art") last year (Aug 11, 2019) on a trip home from NM to OH. One of my favorite towns ever! Very funky and eclectic. Unfortunately the WLCoWSVoWLT was closed for the day but it was fun wandering around the town for a couple hours. Just a couple blocks east is the Garden of Eden and Roy and Clara Miller's Park that have to be seen to be believed.

If you visit, you should also visit "Kansas Originals". They have a cool 'mission' and sell some very cool stuff (you name it!) all made by Kansas people. The whole area is worth getting off I-70 for a bit of a break.

I too am always delighted by witnessing unique places & people. Really appreciate these as I am not on the road discovering them myself this summer due to travel restrictions :(

So inspiring. I love the idea that you can go on trips to and out of the norm. My daughter and I make it a point to look up places on atlas obscura when we take a trip and go to those out of the way strange places. We love it and AO!!!

Toronto’s crazy doll house was a highlight for us because it was incredibly spooky yet we recognized so many of the dolls and toys in the house. We also liked the fountain of youth at the Bronx Zoo I’ve been to the zoo 1000 times and never knew it was there. One of the workers said she worked there for 10 years and never knew it existed she was floored. The mutter museum and the state penitentiary were awesome too. It’s our thing to do when we travel is look it up on AO

Great work as always, AO. In my work documenting Georgia's small towns and abandoned architecture, I got to meet Erika when she was helping restore our state's greatest "Outsider Art" environment, Pasaquan. She was really cool and it's great seeing her in her own environment. vanishingsouthgeorgia.com/2015/08/15/pasaquan-marion-county/
