- Many know the Man Of Steel a.k.a Superman to be married to the love of his life Lois Lane. However, Superman has had other love interests, like Lana Lang, or the telepathic mermaid Lori Lemaris. In a classic silver age tale from the pages of Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane Clark Kent marries all of his love interest...only to have them die. Lori married him on the rebound from her first husband's death. Lana was too obsessed with competing with Lois even after Lois was dead. Lois just loved Superman and wanted to be with him. Superman should go back and save Lois.

I always believed that the mer-people in Silver Age Superman looked like their fins were legs because they WERE originally legs. The backstory of the Atlanteans in Superman comics was that they used super-science to turn themselves into mermaids after Atlantis sunk. So it sort of makes silver age-y scientific sense that their fins just look like scale-covered legs.
I was 7 when that comic came out, and it was the first American comic I ever read, my Mum told me to pick a comic while she was talking to the Newsagent lady, just to keep me quite, Mum's gone now, but thank you for the memory!

We all know that Lana is the woman he needs and that Lois is the woman he deserves, while Lori is the woman he wants!
Technically he could save all three by going back in time saving Lois. Then that would change all the events that ended up killing the other two.
DC's Silver Age had very strict time travel rules - You couldn't go back to a time where you already exist, so Superman couldn't go back to save Lois, even in an imaginary story. I guess this rule was to prevent Batman from going back to save his parents (Batman did his fair share of time-traveling in this era).

Imagine being Lori and being told Superman is ready to settle for his number 3 choice.
I would love it if Lex just really liked Jimmy. Especially if it's one of those non-friendships where they rarely talk or hang out, but Lex just thinks he's a really good guy and potential ward. A small part of his hatred for Superman could come from jealousy over Jimmy being his pal.
Clearly he should marry Lex Luthor, and end his villainy forever.

Something else to think about is that Superman's Kryptonian mother's name was Lara Lor-Van. So Superman falls in love with anyone that has the same initials as his mom.

Superman didn't want Lois to have super-vision because he didn't want her to be able to catch him from afar two-timing her with Lana, or Lori, or Maxima, or Wonder Woman....
If this storyline was set in the modern day, superman would be the subject of a true crime podcast after Lana’s death
They were inconsistent about this (as with most things), but in the silver age the time travel lore was generally that you would be unable to interact with people in any time in which you were alive, so, no, Superman couldn't go back in time to save any of his wives.
See. The question of who would he save is funny, because if he choses anyone but Lois, then at least one person stays dead.

The sliver age 'good' guys' tendency for random sociopathy scares me, if feels like there is going to be an issue where Superman murders a random person for fun and it is somehow made to fit inside the code.

Lana's story was by far the funniest out of the three for me. Like... why did all those things have to happen? Why did Superman have to have a double of himself and Lois in Kandor? And she got so mad she decided to go to space. What a legend. XD
Also, I love that you kept on changing outfits during this whole thing for each of Superman's girlfriends/spouses! It was super fun seeing you pop up on camera with a different costume and wig every time! Keep up the awesome work! :D
Not totally relevant but Smallville deserves credit for capturing Lois' proclivity to have many Suitors really well without making her look bad.
I mean, the answer on who to save is obvious. If he prevents Lois’ death, he has no reason to marry the other two and thus, they won’t die.

16:14 -Also..if he was to save Lois..he'd save them all right? If she was his first wife and he prevented her death, then Lori and Lanna would still be alive. They would not be his wives but they'd live..so this is really more a covert way of again bringing up the "who would superman marry?" question. It just has fatal consequences for up to two of the others so if Supes picks Lori he must REALLY love her more than Lous and Lanna. The fact he even CONSIDERS allowing any to die so he can be married to one in this particular set up kind of makes him a monster.

Not only do Superman's loves all have the double L, but so does Lex, and now this video has made me realize that Superman's last name is El. So all would have been Lana El, Lois El, and Lori El. My brain hurts!

Well, if it were through time travel, the most logical course of action would be saving Lois, that way all three of them would had gotten to live.
To answer the question at 15:55, no, he can't just time travel and save one of his wives. Otherwise, no mistake would *ever* go uncorrected. Writers can't have that. A Lois Lane story from roughly this era answers the question, by showing that time travellers forget why they came back and end up repeating the same mistake (but that story nevers addresses that there should be two copies of the time traveller in that time). Later, the DCU standard is that any time traveller entering a time where they already exist immediately becomes an immaterial phantom, able to observe but not affect the timeline in any way.

In the Silver Age it was established that matter couldn't handle the trip through the time stream. It would become unstable and eventually deteriorate. However, if it traveled via a Legion Time Bubble then it could last much longer. Superman clearly wasn't motivated enough to save one of his wives.

See, this kind of wacky, absurd premise is why I love the Silver Age so much. Also, considering Jimmy being, well, Jimmy, I think he very well could've gone to the Alantean wedding. Either he wasn't invited, or he was too good a friend to Lex during that lost year, and felt Superman did Lex wrong. I prefer the latter interpretation.
Edit: Also, love the changing outfits for the three chapters.
I'm going to predict before the end of this: Lois's ghost kills the other ones as revenge.

OMG Sasha does it again! The wardrobe changes to match the wife of each part, the reading of the word bubbles in a gently mocking way, and the honest critique of these (now weird) stories. I'm sure I used to own this as a kid, and it never once occured to me how weird it was, kind of like the mind-control rays in Superman-Red/Superman-Blue. Way to go, Sasha! Thanks for yet another entertaining video!

There was one form of Kryptonite that transferred Kryptonian powers to humans and you have a bunch of Phantom Zone criminals, Superman could have made a deal with one to commute their sentence in exchange for their powers. Superman is so dumb sometimes.
