A Front Bumper for Our Jeep JL Wrangler Sport that Will Help Improve Performance on Off Road Trails

  • Wheeling your Jeep is the best way to know what mods, if any, it really needs or could benefit from. And, after a year of wheeling Pippi, our stock JL Wrangler 2-Door Sport, it had become clear to Cindy and I, what one of them might be for her - a new front bumper. In this video, you'll get to see what we decided to replace the big, wide and plastic one that came on her from the factory and why, as well as how to get it installed.

      agree 100%. Jeep designers knocked it out of the ballpark with the factory steel bumper with it's versatility and style. For sure have to remove the end caps and it already looks badass and gives you a great approach angle. Added a winch, a couple extra amber lights and the winch cover bar loop which was surprisingly easy to install and also inexpensive.

      I'm honestly thinking of pulling the one off my Gladiator Rubicon, and keeping it for the '23 Wrangler Willys I have on order now. Only thing I would do is swap out the tow hook from the Rubicon red to the Sport black ones, since the red wouldn't go well with the purple and black. I might lose a few bucks on my trade value with an aftermarket bumper on it, but I will save abut $1000-1200 between the steel bumper and the winch plate.

    I really like the path you two are taking with Pippi. Not only have you shown exactly why a stubby bumper is important, it also looks better. I think putting the air dam on was a good call. IMO that is where a good bit of fuel economy it lost, and people wheeling on a budget will probably be mindful of fuel cost, too. It can easily be removed if it needs to.

    I'm loving this little build.
    Budget friendly and "near stock/light mods" is a great way to get into the hobby especially if it is your daily driver.
    From my point of view and with other hobbies that embrace "built not bought" is that you replace these things when they fail. Lift and tires after 25K miles when you need tires and so on....
    This is series is at a good pace and is a great point of you , thank you including us on this Jeep!

I love seeing all the wild ways we customize our Jeep's but something refreshing to see a very basic/factory style Jeep and seeing what it's capable of. That's pretty cool that you can interchange a lot of parts between different models. So you can basically pick and choose what you want to do with your lighter spec'd rig. I am sure there are a lot of 'throwaway' parts out there since so many ditch all the factory stuff and load up with aftermarket.

    • @wayalife

    I think most of us who are following knew this bumper would end up on Pipi. I think she is my favorite build on the net right now. I still think the factory steel bumpers are the best looking but... for my use, I needed a winch mount and tow bar mounts. When ordering, by the time I added those items to the cost of factory steel bumpers the cost was more than enough to just buy arguably better aftermarket bumpers with the features I needed. Plus, I ended up with a rear bumper that doesn't fold up and dent my tub when I bounce off of ledges.
    I removed the plastic ones and sold the front with some other parts and gave the rear awat to a vet you had been rear ended.
    Thanks for sharing.

I'll be getting at least a $425 credit toward the new one for that cheap plastic one! I just like the clean look of the Rubicon bumper over all others. I've recently ordered and received a white 2024 JL Sport two door, with a 3.6L V6 w/ 6-speed manual transmission, manual doors locks & windows with a handle, hardtop, and the American flag factory installed on the hood. The first upgrade I want to do is to installed Rubicon front and rear bumpers. I will be installing the winch plate and a 12000lb winch w/ synthetic rope, as well. This is my third Jeep. My first Wrangler was a black 1989 2 door w/ soft top & full doors, 4.2L carbureted straight 6cyl w/ 5-speed manual. My middle Jeep was an emerald, green 1995 2-door w/ soft-top & full doors, 4.0L fuel-injected inline 6cyl w/ 5-speed manual. I can't wait to start working on the new Jeep. Thank you for producing quality content that is so informative and entertaining.

    Hi Eddie, I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but did you notice any noticeable dip of the front end now that you've had the steel bumper for over a year? I am about to do the same installation next weekend. Big thanks for all the fantastic content you are creating. Best Jeep channel by far.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Před 11 měsíci +1

      For better or for worse, the factory steel bumper really isn't that heavy. Certainly, not like a good aftermarket one made out of 1/4" steel. So, no, I saw no dip from installing it.

    Put a mid width on this time for a bit more coverage. Had a stubby on the previous jeep, but a pickup pulled out in front of my wife at an intersection totaling it. A bit more bumper might have helped since she hit him with the left front first.

    FYI for those who are on a weight budget in the front. There is a net increase of 36 lb. with the Mopar steel bumper and skid plate by replacing the original one. But each end cap is over 8 lb. so a net increase of 20 lb. with them removed to make the bumper a stubby one.
    But with a winch and winch plate added, a 1/2 inch spacer may be required IMO to compensate for the sag.

  • @laloolhouvum1634
    @laloolhouvum1634 Před 2 lety

    Rear steel bumper, A/T wheels on stock rims, winch for recovery (not good to rely on someone else winch, snatch straps etc. to get yourself unstuck) set of spotties for better vision at night on the freeways or trails, reverse camera, some nice decals on the hood, doors, side panels etc. I'm just sharing my humble opinion, bro.
