    I wore contacts when doing my Open Water in Bonaire last year. No problems at all. Even when i had to swim with my mask off alongside my buddy...they didn't come out. Enjoy your stay guys 👍

    I have been wearing contacts while diving since 1982... Never a problem. 🤓🙂

      They work so well and don't understand so many instructor tell divers to not wear them.

      @Blue Horizon Diving Old beliefs that non-gas permeable hard contacts would cause damage to the eye.

    Great video, as a fellow contact lense wearer from OW this was one of the issues I had when I first started. I’ve only ever lost one contact lense while diving and that was when my mask got knocked off by a student.
    Easily rectified by grabbing a set of glasses ( I carry a spare pair in my dive bag )
    I also carry a backup mask on every dive, just incase, that mask is a prescription mask with a lense that’s out of date by a year or so.
    I love wearing contacts Vs glasses so it was great news when I was told I could wear them diving

      @BlueHorizonDiving  Před rokem +2

      So so true was great news when knew we could too 😊
      That is actually really smart move to have spare mask with prescription with you!

      @@BlueHorizonDiving something I started doing after my rescue course! My thinking behind it ( apart from the obvious ) is if a buddy / student has their mask knocked off and they can’t get hold of theirs, I can always donate my mask, ( yes I’ll lose my contact lenses but I carry the glasses in my dive bag ) and switch to a backup mask for myself, that way the diver in question can finish the dive, and I can always get the mask back once we’re back to dry land

    Thank you! Great video! I will be doing my first dive soon whilst on holiday. And I was concerned I wouldn't be able to see much underwater. Now I can enjoy seeing the fishes.

    I did my OWD with Contacts and hated the fact I had to keep my eyes close on the mask removal training.. However since then, I've discovered Orthokeratology Lenses which have _completely changed_ my dive experience. I can dive without lenses and pull my mask off completely and look around. You only put the lenses in while you're sleeping and completely uncovered during the day.

    • @BlueHorizonDiving
      @BlueHorizonDiving  Před rokem +2

      We've never heard of them and are really interesting concept when reading up on these lenses. Thank you

    I dive with lenses - the only issue I ever had was when my luggage was lost (I wear dailies) and I had no visual correction. My glasses were in my luggage as well! I now always carry my lenses in my carry on. I also carry a prescription mask incase I can't wear lenses for whatever reason.

    • @BlueHorizonDiving
      @BlueHorizonDiving  Před rokem +1

      See that is smart. Always carry lenses in both too. Prescription mask is good idea for back up 😊

    How do I check if the water won't get inside my snorkel mask if I were to rent one? It's going to be my first time snorkeling and I'm extremely short sighted so I want to wear contacts, and I want to know how to check since there might be leaks if I use rented masks

    • @BlueHorizonDiving
      @BlueHorizonDiving  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Check that the seal of the mask touches your face at all points, any gaps lean to leaks! Pop it on your face without the strap, breath in through the nose and look down- it shouldn’t fall off!
