@Rynn Dodds - I so agree with and appreciate your comment. I've been struggling these last few years with physical decline/medical issues, primarily 3 forms of arthritis in the "RA" family (Rheumatoid, Psoriatic, & Anklylosing Spondylitis) that are progressively attacking my spine. It's videos like these that inspire me to push thru my high pain cycles, to incorporate my mobility goals to "keep on trekking" 🌍. When I'm hurting most, "the vicious cycle" can set in: hurt too much to move, if I don't move hurts even more. As I receive inspiration with these videos, it helps me to keep on moving, hence slowing the degenerative physical consequences.
I truly sympathize with our disabled, for I know that is my physical path too... as I set goals & push thru, helps me have hope I may be able to re-explore such places / make new memories too. In the meantime, I join you in living vicariously thru other adventurers 🤩 Here's to living out our dreams despite our challenges, cheers! PS - adding you to my prayers 🙏, bless you!
My family moved to Yosemite Valley when I was 10 years old. We lived in the housing along the edge of the Ahwahnee Meadow, and my bedroom had Half Dome out one window and Yosemite Falls out the other! Thank you for the lovely (vicarious) trip home :)

So there are private homes built in the park?
@@PanzerBuyer there are houses and complexes in valley - all are owned by NPS. The concessionaire leases them out. Dorms and tent cabins for seasonal employees, homes for execs and management with families. At least that was the deal a couple decades ago :)
There are small enclaves just outside the park boundaries where there are private residences - places like Foresta and Yosemite West. I lived in the latter in my 20's. LOVED it!

I’m sorry you had the car problems, glad it wasn’t worse. I live in SE Idaho, maybe we can do a hike once?
I've learned that there are always things to be learned or unforeseen upsides that come from bad things (which always pass). It does no good to dwell on them. As for hiking together, well... lol I'm not really a people person. When I'm out hiking, I prefer to be alone. It's not you, it's me 😄
@@SUVRVing I’m not much of a people person either 🙂. If you’ve never hiked the Willow Flats to Bloomington Lake trail, I hear it’s a great one. I’m 59 this year, and just getting into hiking, it’s on my summer bucket list. It’s just SE of Preston, up Cub River Rd.

Last visit for me was when I was 16. I'm 71 now and won't go back due to the crowds. Prefer to remember it as it was back then. So nice that those guys helped you. Hi Tristan, I enjoyed this episode SO much! My husband and I have been to Yosemite four times and hiked to Yosemite Falls twice. Have you ever done the Panorama Trail? It is our favorite National Park hike! Terrific views of Half Dome the whole way. I agree that Half Dome is the most beautiful sight. Just driving to Glacier Point and getting that first glimpse of it can make me emotional. I was really moved on one of our hikes up there to see a man in a wheelchair just sitting there and taking in the views. And when we finished our hike he was still sitting there enjoying it. I love that sights like that are so accessible to people of all abilities. Thanks again for letting us share your hikes in the most beautiful place in the U.S.
Great 3-day visit! I visited Yosemite about 10 times this summer - basically, as often as I could. I totally agree with you about the crowds - especially mid-summer - but if you get out onto the less travelled trails, like Clouds Rest, 4-Mile, Panorama, Snow Creek, El Capitan, you can escape the crowds even on the busiest days. Clouds rest is probably my favorite destination - climbed it twice this year: once from Tenaya lake and once from Happy Isles. It was great to see you call out Mt Watkins from Clouds rest. I was on the summit of Mt Watkins this past weekend. That's a great hike, with spectacular vista of the Tenaya creek canyon and unique views of Clouds Rest, Half Dome and Basket Dome. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing your visit to Yosemite. It is, hands down, my most favorite place in the world. I, too, am sorry to see the crowds but certainly understand why they come. I had been an avid backpacker for more than 25 years. Many of my trips were into the backcountry of Yosemite, some following trails, some cross-country. So many incredible secret places to be had all to one's seIf! It was wonderful to see some of the familiar views again in this video. For myself, unfortunately age and severe arthritis have me walking with a cane, hence no hiking and backpacking for me any longer. I do miss it like a piece of me is missing. However, the memories I have, even the feel of the magic of the place, are still with me. There simply is no place like Yosemite. I've taken up boondocking in my camper in an effort to capture even some of the peace, beauty and solitude I found while backpacking. Thanks again, and best wishes for many more beautiful adventures.
Thanks for the great Yosemite content. I've hiked Yosemite Falls a few times. Hiking it in autumn when Yosemite Creek is bone dry also gives many dramatic views. The profound sensation of walking in the creek during the dry season is hard to describe. Very moving. One year when I was hiking back down toward the Valley, hikers coming up would ask if there was water flowing in the creek and when I told them there wasn't, they would start to head down and I strongly encouraged them to continue up and experience the spectacular views walking in the dry creek. For those of you planning a Yosemite visit when the Falls are dry, do it!
This was my introduction to your channel. I immediately subscribed. You are my style of vlogger! You treated Yosemite with the respect it deserves, and you avoided the crowded places there. It's been 20 years since I've had a chance to be back in Yosemite; thank you for bringing back fond memories of my wolf girl and me there. 💝

As an Australian that follows hikers on the PCT, thank you for pointing out all the POI, especially Toualmie Meadows. It really helped with my overall understanding of Yosemite's main features in relation to the trail. I have been to Yosemite in 1976, walked to Bridalvail (sp?) Falls and other walks, so this was a fabulous reminder of how blessed my childhood was🙏🇦🇺💚
Wow - nicely shot! The park is always stunning! I worked and lived in Yosemite for 2 years in the mid '80's before it became so overcrowded. I also lived for a few years in Oakhurst later in the early '90's. I did a lot of off trail hiking in the park to avoid the crowds, and some of the less popular trails aren't too bad. Snowshoeing/cross country skiing in the winter is a real treat too. Hardly anyone there compared to summer. The place to be in the early spring - standing on that foot bridge, over Yosemite Creek, that you crossed up near the top, with the creek raging beneath you! I'm mostly an arm chair adventurer today, so I love watching video's of my old, as well as new, haunts, and tagging along with adventurous folks like yourself - so thanks for helping me relive the glory days.

Thank you for the beautiful views. I live on the east coast and suffer with multiple diseases that limit my mobility. Your videos motivate me to work harder at regaining the strength I've lost so that maybe I can get out west to do some hiking to all these beautiful places. My other favorite part (Other than the amazing views) was the giant burl you pointed out. What an amazing piece of wood that must be. Keep up the great work, and stay safe.

Btw, your last hike is what I'm used to on the East Coast, with a typically less dramatic payoff. I love the peace of the woods, especially after a light rain. For me, woods is home.
It has 50 years since I was in that Park; it seemed crowded to me. I wish I had been brave enough to hike the trail you guided me on as I sat in my rocker. Thanks for sharing.
Thirty years for me…and it was crowded then! We hiked a few trails but were only there for a short time. Love these videos.
Learned rock climbing in Yosemite in 1971 and hiked the JMT for first time. Three of us did it and we climbed Cathedral Peak back before you had to stand in line to do it. It was June and Donohue Pass had 60 feet of snow on it. Yes the Valley was raging waterfalls in June.
In Sept. of 1978 I had reservations at the Ahwahnee Lodge I'd made months before for my Honeymoon. My late wife cried when we came through the Tunnel to the View of the most beautiful place in the World. Pictures do not do it justice, you have to see and _feel_ it. The beauty of the late afternoon Sun overwhelmed her. I told her it's only the beginning of what I had planned for my little blonde English girl.
The Sequoias blew her away as did Glacier Point. I asked her if she wanted to do the Half Dome climb on the cables. She surprised me and went for it, she wondered why I brought those work gloves and found out. She did it, but said never again, her acrophobia kicked in a little on the way down. I told her she didn't have to do it, but she pressed through and said the view from the top was worth it. After Yosemite I took her to Mammoth where I used to live and we horse backed camped to Thousand Island Lake.
I'm pretty sure she enjoyed our Honeymoon. Kept running out of film for the camera was the worse thing to happen.
Man, you were very lucky on both the “damage” AND the repair! My last trip to the valley was about 6 years ago. I took my 16 YO nephew as he wanted to see the sequoias. We camped one night in the valley on the way to the sequoias. You’re right, they are the largest, redwoods the tallest, and bristlecones the oldest. Yosemite is just such an amazing place. Hard for me to call it the MOST beautiful place, but certainly firmly in the top three!

WOW, Great videos. When I retired I visited a service buddy that lived in MEDFORD Oregon and he took us all around. NICE scenery in OR, CAL, AND NEV. The best waterfalls were just outside PORTLAND . WE also got to see VANCOUVER ISLAND CANADA . THOSE memories were great in 1997. Thanks for the videos to bring back memories.
Happy your car issue was easily solved!!!!! As for sharing those places with too many tourists: I feel your pain. I'm experiencing that myself now that I have just started my journey and I now understand how difficult it is to cope with so many people. Thank you for the video!

Yeah, 4K is a pain to deal with, but I'll never regret having the best footage I can make. It'll be worth it.
I’ve been to Yosemite more than a dozen times. My dad and I hiked Half Dome from the Valley floor when I was 17. I thought that was an epic spot for taking pictures of the Valley from a “different angle”. But Clouds Rest is my new goal to see the Valley from. Thank you so much for bringing us along with you. Especially since you even show us your “fails” and misadventures. It’s all part of the human experience and it’s refreshing to share it with you. Thanks Tristan.
Car issues were a bummer, but the panoramas in the park and at the top of the last hike were pretty great. Glad your wheel issue got fixed without you getting hosed for a fortune. Thx for the show !!

Yessir, so I too am jealous - to the enth degree. Listening to you describe the outcroppings you sound like a rock climber. I too once upon a time held that craft dear and as you've denoted I too way back in the day studied the routes on El Cap and Half Dome. El Cap was definitely in my plans. Yes plans, how's that saying go... "Life is what happens when we're busy making plans." Made it to Yosemite only once in spite of all the ambition to visit it continually. Saw in another comment someone also was disabled and now I too watch videos on Utube depicting all I had sought for myself. Point being enjoy your vlog much, but now and then when you visit places had set my sights on in a previous life, gotta admit am surprised the sight of them still tug at my soul, filling my brain with, "What if's" and, "If only's..."
I'm like you. I Love the spectacular places, but a slightly less spectacular place, with little to no ppl, is much more my speed. 👍🏻

Crazy how one day in the crowded public areas you get stuck with not much help. In your natural environment the first passing off-roader would have been pulling you out happily.
When I am off-road in Utah or Colorado I will pull over to check a map and others will ask if all is good, great group of people out there.
From first hand experience I can assure that Yosemite Creek before it falls can be a terrifying torrent in the springtime, especially as one contemplates the smooth inclined rock banks with nothing to hold you back or hold onto.

Yosemite it my favorite place, and I just discovered Mono Lake and the Lee Vining side a couple weeks ago. Also amazingly beautiful, and much less crowded. Why in the world would anyone dislike this video? Seems so weird.

I visited Yosemite around 2008/9. I always wanted to return someday. Now it will be never except by utubers posting. I think yours has been the best thus far. Thank you from a 76 armchair traveler from Pennsylvania. Saw the underground house in Fresno.
Yeah, I can't say that AAA pulling your car out sideways was the best idea. That looked like a problem waiting to happen when you put that much force on parts that aren't supposed to experience that type of force.
I would think they are experienced recovery operators. Most likely the only way they could do it?
How else is he supposed to get it out? At least he got it out in one piece.
I would have put a line to hold the car from sliding sideways more then pulled from the front.

Tristan, thanks for all of the spectacular outdoor videos that you share with us. I have been to Yosemite many times since I was introduced to the park in 1977 by my uncle Ed who lived in Oakhurst. We had a great time then and I have had many great times since. It is by far my most favorite place on earth....
My husband and I stayed in Yosemetie NP almost 50 years ago. We spent time time in a cabin with the mountains as our backyard. It was cold during that time and we could hear the avalanches banging and crashing during the night. That was a great trip!

Love it, When I was 15 I hiked with a group from Towalame Meadows to Yosemite Valley The bears got our food twice, more food was helicoptered to us so we could continue It was great trip Ill never forget it. Also hiked 1/2 way up 1/2 Dome and found out I have a fear of heights it causes me serious pain throw-out my body I still love mountains as long as I dont have to look over a cliff. I wish I didn't have this problem. 62 yrs old now and will still hike everywhere i can.... Great videos Thanks!

Zoo is right. That’s the same for almost all National Parks in summer. I really prefer the October to March time frame for visiting
Most of Yosemite is practically inaccessible in winter, so if you want to see certain things, going in summer is the only option. Thanks for watching.
No need to underplay your videos. For someone who has never seen Yosemite it’s like I was there on my friends 60+TV. The wonder of cell phones, cameras and drones, internet and adventurous young people like yourself, I’m very please to be able to see it. Thank you.
When I made my first trip west, ever in Aug 2020 all National parks were closed. My 74 yr young roommate was moving back to Oregon from Louisiana and I drove the moving truck. We took 8 days and stopped to see as much as we could. I did get to spend 2 add’l weeks to visit Oregon and the Pacific Ocean. I flew back to the Baton Rouge area where I have lived for the last 30 years.
I wouldn’t trade that trip for any travels to Europe I made in the 70’s and 80’s. I’m content.

Great video! I've been to Yosemite just once but spent 2 days there. One day up on top at Mariposa Grove and Glacier Point and the 2nd day down in the valley. I must go back and hike these hikes! They look EPIC. Thank you so much for such a great video!

At the end, when you’re sitting atop Clouds Rest with Half-Dome just behind you, if you squint REALLY hard the tiny farming town of Patterson (where I live) is wwaaaaaaaaaaayyy across the Central Valley in the distance. On a really (rare) clear day, and with a good zoom lens, you can see Half-Dome from here. Some amazing views from up there, but I don’t think I could do the last leg of that hike with the rock falling away to either side. Too much vertigo… So, thanks for sharing those views, I’d probably never see them otherwise.
Hey, Tristan, don't feel bad about the car misadventure. Things happen to the best of us and it didn't slow you down much, so it's ok! This video is astoundingly gorgeous and you did a great job keeping the hoards of people out of your shots. I too try to avoid crowds and really appreciate being alone on adventures. I for one appreciate the time you take to set up the shots of you walking 🚶♂️ solo. You also did a great job of putting the trees' size in perspective with the long shots. I hiked Upper Yosemite Falls when I was much younger. My friends were faster and didnt wait for me. The run back down the trail was fun. Thanks for the revisit.
There are many great hikes in California, if you get a chance. I enjoy wildflower season.

Since I have done Yosmite Falls about 2 times and have been unable to do it in the past 2 decades due to an injury. I loved experiencing it again vicariously. A great hike! Clouds Rest possibly in my future.

Wow. That was awesome. I'm sure I'll never make it to Yosemite and, even if I did, I would not be able to do those hikes. So thank you for sharing this. It was incredible.
I am glad you love your Yosemite as do many others. It is a beautiful area with so many enjoyable treasures. However growing up in Colorado, traveling all through the Rockies, many years working in Alaska, and now living in Idaho, I have been through areas, up and down canyons, atop many peaks and have seen places that certainly rival Yosemite if not blow it away. If you look at each for their unique beauty, truthfully it is near impossible to compare one to the other, but rather revel in each ones awesomeness.

Did all those hikes twenty plus years ago. Agree on the Clouds Rest hike, a long stroll through the trees but then the views at the end. I also wanted to bushwhack from Clouds Rest over to the shoulder of Half Dome.
I cannot wait to start exploring in my Toyota 4Runner 😁
