I'm sorry Ellen had to go thru so much pain, hiding some big secret for so long, but really it did so much good. People like me who had been brought up to be uptight and judgmental got to read her book, enjoy her comedy, and fall in love with her first. Then we found out she was gay, and we could realize that hey it's cool to be gay if someone awesome like Ellen is gay. It helped me learn to go way past mere tolerance and really embrace people who are different from me.
she is from Geelong in Victoria Australia. She does have an Australian accent, however, quite often, to get work in America you need to speak with an American accent as the Aussie one is not always easy to get. I think, considering she now calls the US home, she simply continues to use the American accent (practice makes perfect) as all of her future work opporuntities are going to be there. No matter, what though, Portia will always be an Aussie gal.
