  • The Nintendo Switch OLED is now over a year old and came in the stead of any sort of "Switch Pro"- something Nintendo claims isn't coming anytime soon. Is the OLED Switch still worth buying in 2023?

    The Nintendo Switch OLED is absolutely still worth buying- and is probably the most worth it of the current line-up for the right person.

      I love ACNH, that is the main reason I have a switch at the moment. that isn't to say that I don't play other games, I've played Zelda, Mariokart, Mario odyssey, smash, you know, all the games you buy a switch for. what I would really like to see is Nintendo releasing the Animal Crossing switch as an oled model, but that probably won't happen.

    I got the original Switch model back in late 2017. It served me well, I played it portably and docked, and experienced Joy-con drift with two controllers (both of them being left Joy-cons) as well as overall battery life declining over five years of use. I upgraded to the Splatoon 3 OLED model in September 2022 and have no regrets. The portability of the OLED model compared to my 2017 model is amazing. Better colors, WAY better battery life, better speakers, etc. $350 USD is a lot of money. However I sold my original model to a retro gaming store for $175 and put that towards my OLED. And I think that is the best route to go. If you have an older model, sell it and use the money to get an OLED model. If you don’t have a Switch, weigh your options like Josh talked about.

    • @dhwtn2187
      @dhwtn2187 Před rokem +2

    • @dothesick
      @dothesick Před rokem

      @@dhwtn2187 that does seem better, but all I can find are sticks for replacements, and I honestly feel like most people (myself included) would mess that up big time. I just try to play with a pro controller most of the time and accept that every couple years I might need to buy a new left joycon.

    We got our first Switch for Christmas this year. I know...a little late to that party! I did think the OLED was a better standalone value, but we got Mario Kart 8 bundled with the standard Switch for $250. That felt like a better deal to us in the end. We also picked up Breath of the Wild. I'm a huge Zelda fan and have been waiting YEARS to get my hands on that one. Now my son and I are having a lot of late nights exploring Hyrule.

    I’ve had all 3 models but the lite. Oled model has a glossy finish around the bezel that can get scuffed, more lighter and fragile than the V1 & V2 model but the Oled model is aesthetically pleasing. I’d buy a 9H glass screen protector for all models mandatory and a good carry case from Satisfye and Skull & Co.

    I bought an OLED switch about one month ago, it's definitely the best value if you plan on buying a Switch right now (over the regular & lite). Personally I regret my purchase a little as I don't use it that much. If you're buying now, make sure to buy physical games so you can resell them when new hardware/platform inevitably comes in the next 2-3 years.

    4:15 Switch lite is hands down the best Switch for portability. It’s form factor is unmatched by any other modern handheld system. However there is a case to be made for the OLED and its gorgeous display. So between those two it’s up to your preference of visuals over functionality / portability. I would love to see a switch lite oled and combine the best of both worlds!

You insert the card easily but trying to get it out on the oled is kind of tricky at times. They should kept it in the normal area. While regular consoles do perform better i think the oled does its job, some games arent going be on perfect on it but majority games i have dont seem have any issues. I once thought Nintendo didn't care about processing power, but that's actually not true. Nintendo advertised the NES, N64, and Game Cube as having more power than the competition at launch. Even their own magazine was called Nintendo Power. When they designed the Wii, that's where they made the choice to not chase processing power. It was a good move, too. It has mostly worked out. Well, except for the Wii U.

    Switch 2 won’t be here for a while, but there are some things that would be required for it to be a momentous success:
    Must have:
    1. Nearly complete Switch Backwards compatibility
    2. Significantly better processors
    3. DLSS for docked 4k scaling.
    Plus factors:
    4. Make dual-screen option when docked to port so many Wii-U games, DS/2DS/3DS titles, etc
    5. Address JoyCon drift
    Unlikely but would be dope:
    6. $ Premium edition $ with alloy unibody, no removable joycons.
    7. Ability to utilize 2nd screen when docked, to port more Wii U games fully, as well as DS/2DS/3DS titles.

Jumping to 3 months ago, my 4K TV broke and I replaced it with an LG C2 4K OLED TV for PS5/XSX/PC gaming and I instantly fell in love with the giant OLED screen. To get screen parity, I upgraded to the Switch OLED and it didn’t disappoint. The bigger display and switch(pun intended) from IPS LCD to OLED is MASSIVE difference than people make it out to be. Seeing comparison videos between the regular and OLED screens doesn’t do it justice. I’m actually more engaged in playing handheld now (which I never did with the OG switch) just because of these 2 screen upgrades. As someone who has played and owned all the model options for Switch, my personal preference is the Lite. Weird, huh? After growing up with the DS Lite and the PSP 2000, I was really excited to get my hands on one of them. I expected the OLED to be my favorite to play, but it is my favorite ‘looking’ and most aesthetically pleasing Switch. The Lite is definitely my favorite to use just by how comfortable it is to hold in the hands. The OLED is actually slightly bigger than an original switch and may be a little awkward and uncomfortable to hold for long periods of game time for someone with smaller hands. I recommend the Lite for people who love a handheld gaming experience and for personal use only. If you have kids or you’re a couple with more than one account on the console, I recommend the OLED so you can play with more people. Since the OLED has been released, I don’t see the point in buying a new OG model Switch unless it is used and you get a really good deal.
