- The Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes get ridden at ridiculous average speeds. But while we’d never be able to keep up with the pros, there are some things we can learn from their bikes.
Here are some essential tech tricks they use to help them to go fast - which will you be using on your own bike?

I recently upgraded my tires from 23mm to 25mm and it’s made a world or difference. I’m on a 17 year old Felt with tight clearance. New bike soon. 🤞
Tyres are #1 for me, as they make the most immediate difference to feel. I used to skimp on tyre quality, but now I only run the good stuff. Closely followed by disc brakes.
I run 28mm tires, a relatively low position, and disc brakes but I'm still slow so the engine is the issue. 😂

@@adaml5473 it was one of the things listed in the video. Technically they allow you to perhaps brake later in a turn so you can take your speed deeper, thus faster.

For most amateurs cleaning the chain and drive drain regularly is a huge advantage. I've purchased the tools to remove my cassette to clean it so it looks absolutely brand new. I also use Squirt for lubricant. It has excellent lubricant features and does not attract dirt like a wet lube. However, see next comment.
If I get caught in the rain I use a quick shot of WD-40 after the ride to make sure the chain, cassette and chain rings don't rust. The requires a cleaning before the next ride.
I've also switched to 25s or 28s. Settled on 25s for daily riding with lower tire pressure (tyre for those across the pond). This has made for a much more supple ride than 23s with 110psi.

Yeah, we should all emulate pros...retired pros!!!! Go on any former pro who isn't connected with a brand...think domestique or 2-gen old guys/gals...they NEVER ride ANYTHING like this bikes. BikeRadar should focus on adjustable/swappable products, tires and saddles are still 100% in this category...slammed integrated cockpits are nearly the dumbest thing you could buy...#1. They are fragile #2. Totally not adjustable #3 they cost $$$$. Buy a bike from a shop that will likely allow you to swap a stem if you actually want to get lower :)
25mm internal width rims? That's XC territory... should be pretty nice and comfy on the road.
When I got my Trek Domane that came with 25mm internal width rims, I thought it was a marketing gimmick to go that wide. However, I found I absolutely love how they handle and feel on real world roads (i.e., super rough Midwest roads).
@@buster.keaton I remember people complaining about 2kg+ wheels on less expensive Domanes in last few years (and carbon Domanes pushing 10kgs). On the other hand - it has a space for 35-ish tires, so almost gravel like build, it's easy to justify wider rims for that application.
The larger brake rotor trend makes sense when descending mountains, but I don't think that those of us that ride moderately highly terrain and are relatively light weight need larger rotors.
l do get lower now than when l started yrs ago along with wider gear ratios and improved tires ,weekly lube routine helps in making you mor3e efficient /faster all around :) HOWEVER my RIM brakes with alloy wheels have never let me down for all the years of cycling throughout my entire life and not forgetting coaster brakes on bikes from when l was a kid !! AH the good ol days of BMX and banana seat bikes :)
I have a Giant hybrid with 38mm tires and decided to try some Continental GP5000 32mm. They definitely were more nimble, but sure could feel every little bump. Then installed some Fincci 38’s and wow what a difference. Felt like a Cadillac. Now I’m nervous about getting a full road bike because of the ride quality.
We probably shouldn't emulate the pro's, but their bikes do look 🔥

All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
If your a keen cyclist you just have to look in the mirror,you are the engine so if your overweight or pushing on in age or fitness is lacking the most expensive bike in the world will make no difference.
Bit of a mess of a video that just gets confused, match tyres to external rim width for max aero, that’s why pog has such a wide front tyre, that’ll be horrible aero on normal aero rims in the 28mm external rim width range. Sram bigger front ring? Yes so they can stay out of the friction maxing 10t cog.

Not only friction pushes for larger front chainrings, but also the gearing gaps. The larger the front chainring, the smaller the gap between gears.There is nothing more annoying than having a too big gear, upshifting and discovering that the next gear is just a bit too small for comfort.
Slammed stems are not the fastest option
It’s not that simple, sometimes they are.
If they are an ‘option’ to you, then they will be fastest.
@@rob-c. the "option" is to slam or not to slam..There are an infinite number of options beyond "slammed"..go figure it out that dropping your bars flush to the headset will not make a rider "faster"
Stoooooooop - it’s the other way around really. More riders in the pro peloton are finding that they’re more powerful with knee over pedal spindle not 4-5cm behind the bb. This results in longer front ends and lower. Riders are actually in the same basic position just more forwards and lower.
i'll take my 2007 Look 585 over any modern-day PoS. most absurd things imaginable.
Is this a joke? Your title is "Tour de France Tech" but nothing here is new. Furthermore the people who can get their stem lower and push a larger chainring didn't wait for your video to discover it. What did you want to achieve?
