    Part 2 Video: • Built In Shelves Part ...
    This is part 1 of my custom built in shelving build. The shelves are built with inexpensive pine plywood and face framed with poplar. I built these in my basement after having to demo the previous shelving in order to do some insulation work. This video covers most of the build but be sure to check back soon for Part 2 where I will tackle a removable section to cover the drain pipe to allow future access if needed.
    Thanks for watching. If you have any comments or questions please leave them below or hit me up on social media, email, or my website.

    A great way to utilize the 'dead' space if your garage. I did the same in mine a few years ago 4:36

    These are beautiful! I found your shelves and CZcams channel through Reddit. I’d LOVE to have these in my house!

    Man.. never seen a carcass built that way.. but if it works for you.. have at it. I build the box first then slide the shelves into the dado. Glue and nail.. then spray.. makes life easier.. here's a cool thing a lot of people don't know about.. Lowe's has a spray gun over in the air compressor /tool section.. it'll spray latex right out of the can.. most of the time with zero thinning the paint! It puts on a beautiful finish and it's a pretty nice gun! It has a pressurized pot that pushes the paint up the feed tube.. I use the crap out of mine! Just remember to run the paint through a strainer..

      I agree it’s a bit different way to assemble these things but I promise there is a method to the madness. The router bit I have matched the thickness of the plywood about as exactly. This is good for a really tight fit but would have been impossible to slide the shelves in the way you describe. I had to use clamps to press things together! Had I used a dado stack at the table saw I could have added a shim to give a couple thousandths clearance but I don’t own a dado stack yet. Kind of a “use what you’ve got” approach.
      I do like the idea of a paint sprayer...but I wouldn’t use it enough to justify the cost right now. It’s on my list though!
      Thanks for watching and for the comments. I appreciate the interaction. 👍🏻

    That nail gun is sure handy.

      Sure is! Only thing that would be better is a cordless one so I didn’t need the air compressor and have to wrangle the air hose around.

    What thickness ply did you use? Have you found it to be sufficient in supporting what you place on the shelves?

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před 5 lety +2

      This is all 3/4 plywood. We’ve got the shelves loaded down with books, toys, etc and it is more that strong enough for anything we’ll ever place in the shelves. I’m 180 pounds and I wouldn’t hesitate to sit on the shelf if I could fit. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻

    Oh this is one of those "look at me" videos. Was sorta hoping to find a tutorial...

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před 2 lety

      Most of the videos I watch are not tutorials. I watch to see what techniques others use and figure out how to apply them for my need. Or how to achieve a similar result with the tools I have. I don’t claim to be a woodworking teacher. Also, if you are doing built in shelving like this a complete step by step wouldn’t help much unless you have the identical house and space that I’m working with.

      Thanks for watching. Surprisingly I have not had any real issues using those tapes. But I guess I’m a bit of a rebel in the woodworking world...lol. Spent all my $$ on the saw! 🤷🏼‍♂️

      It’s not a cabinet, it’s a shelving unit for kids stuff...toys, books, etc. Doors would just be in the way.
