- hi🖤 this is my take on Severus Snape’s life story. I do my best to be as accurate as possible, however, I mainly film from memory. I read the series for the first time at age 9 and in 2019 took a college course on the series. I have been consuming content for years while re-reading the books and watching the movies regularly. Started on Tiktok and wanted to make longer form content, enjoy!
Based on canon information from the Harry Potter book and movie series, Hogwarts Mystery, my personal opinion, and any information I have sitting around in my head.

Snape was ruined by JKR and Rickman. He was fine until book 6 when she dropped always'.This is because Rickman was going to stop playing the character due to not liking him. Not sure why he took on the char in the first place but whatever.
His story doesn't make sense or ad up. Why would his mum, a powerful witch in the Dark Arts take any slack from a Muggle?
He and Lily are so toxic, and she never seems nice to him, because this was all poorly constructed by JKR last minute book 6.
I always saw him from book 1 as the clear decoy, not an evil guy, and someone who ends up helping in the end. Toxic romance was not necessary to make this happen and it's all too frequently JKR's go to.
In book 5, this was not her plan clearly. Snape does not even seem to know Lily. She is hanging with other girls while he is being bullied by the Gryffindor gang of gits at the lake. They are not hanging out as friends do. Finally she is annoyed because she clearly finds James bothersome. She comes over and tells him to leave Snape alone, and Snape snaps at her because from his pov, "I hardly know you and you are defending me mainly to annoy James, shove off Mud-blood." Ha I said it!
So that's the impression OOTP, then HBP it is all suddenly a backstory history friendship that clearly was not in the plan in OOTP. But the time line is just after the 2nd movie and this is when Rickman nearly dropped the character until Rowling scrambled to keep him via toxic romance.
Now many dislike him because of his so called love for Lily making him a twisted hero in the end and I dislike it all so much. He could've had other reasons to want Voldemort dead. Plenty and it would not have been hard to think of why else he could spy and help.
