Feels good seeing you watching videos of one of best yt educators in Poland. Tomasz Rożek is amazing person and hopefuly there will be more well educated people like him in near future.
I live in Gippsland and the rolling green hills of the Strzelecki ranges are my daily scenery
he didn't sit back. invest. traveled. he shared his knowledge. he wasn't greedy.
In Italy, he must have been extremely impressive to inherit such a fortune. He visited the whole world, but it is not without reason that Poles are called rovers of the globe. He was a man of honor. For a Polish nobleman, especially an impoverished one, it was the only thing he had. As in the case of Australia, he may have also discovered a few places for disclosure, so he asked to burn the notes to keep his word.
My old school had a camp in The Strzelecki Ranges. A beautiful part of Victoria. Saw my first platypus, in the wild, there. On a clear day you could see the 90 mile beach from the camp footy field.
There's a number of places in Australia named after Strzelecki. From a lookout in Newcastle, to a town, highway and hills in Victoria, to one of the very remote outback roads (Strzelecki Track) in SA, & the Strzelecki Desert.
Another great Aussie/Polish connection happened in the 90’s. Kids tv had a collaboration with polish tv. Two shows in particular “Spellbinder” was a big one here in Oz as well as “The girl from Tomorrow” it was a fun colab but unusual for the time but it created at least 2 great kids shows. Spellbinder was filmed in both countries and starred an Aussie teen guy and a Polish/Aussie teen girl, as an actor at the time I was desperate to get into the show but alas I couldn’t.
Was one of the first and only colabs I’ve seen of Australian and Polish TV.
Wow. That was amazing. I don't remember learning much about him in school. Probably because he wasn't English. Sorry, but that was how things were. What an incredible man. As for burning his papers I think it was wrong. All that knowledge gone. Thanks Rob.

That was really interesting. I knew very little about him until recently, mostly knew that he named Mount Kosciuszko. (Which yes, we Aussies do not say correctly. Though we usually shorten it to just Kozi lol). And I learned some more through this vid..
I also didn't realise so many places in Australia are named after him until I looked it up.

To give the author of the channel one more reason to exalt over the talents, diligence and fantasy of Poles, I will show off my day of classes. In the morning to work to teach computer science students, then shopping, then cooking meals for a large family, and then working in the garden, practicing scales on the guitar, a game or two of chess with a neighbor who I already educated a bit.
In the evening I don't want to think about stupid things, I listen to Grieg, Chopin, Bach - pee, bath, beads and go to bed.
Paweł Strzelecki was more or less such a man - but with him I am an anonymous pawn. And so it goes day after day. I am 64 years old and I want to live more and more!

Real name of Indiana Jones famili is Strzelecki but it was to hard for Hollywood...
Most Australians who have studied our History would know or at least heard of him. He is known, I couldn’t tell you about the guy who found gold. Strezlecki has a mountain range named after him as well as Mt Kosiosko. He really is well known here at least by the older generations who studied him a lot at school.
The Polish Ambassador corrected our pronunciation of 'Kosciuszko' some time ago. Now with the help of some Polish friends, I always try to pronounce it correctly - 'Kosz-jzoo-sko' - but the mispronunciation is ingrained in our minds from school.
Maybe transcription like "koshchyooshko" would be more helpful? My son used to write Polish words in English transcription, as he started school in Ireland and then we moved to Poland - so he knows now, how to write them correctly. English is my second language, so I try to help English speakers (or anglophones?) to pronounce Polish words correctly, whenever I can :)
Yes there are quite a few Poles, and immigrants from their neighbouring countries, in Australia! 😄

Learned about Strzelecki in history class of course but nothing to this extent... absolutely incredible. Most Aussie's know they pronounce Kosciuszko wrong but I didn't realise I was pronouncing Strzelecki wrong... oops😁 Wasn't far off though... the ck is where I go wrong. This is a terrific video Rob.

Hey Rob, I noticed there is a lot of content about Poland on your channel, I really enjoy watching your videos and I have an idea for a future one, you could do a video on 1st Polish armoured division from WW2, watched a documentary a while back about them and I think it would be interesting to see your reaction. 😎
I also wondered why he ordered the destruction of the notes nad his achievements. I have a theory. Perhaps it's about his empathy for the younger generation. He wanted to leave others the joy of exploring something undiscovered. Not to hijack pioneering or impose a perspective. He wanted to leave the world surprising and fascinating 😊

Strzelecki in Australia, Piłsudzki on Sahalin in Japan, Przewalski in South Asia and Beniowski on Madagascar ( natives even coronated him as the King xD). And probably few more i dont know about. There were few Polish explorers with achievments. They mostly worked for Russian Tzar after partisions of the Commonwealth and of course these achievments were written on Russian account. But still We treat then as Polish heroes.

Czerski. Czekanowski, Dybowski. Przewalski in Central Asia. They mostly worked as prisoners sent to Siberia for patriotic activity, released from chains for their scientific skills.

I heard about Strzelecki for the first time when I alternately with my grandma read the book by Alfred Szklarski "Tomek in the land of the kangaroos":

Strzelecki didn't found gold in California. The author of gthe video only suggested that if Strzelecki shared his discovery about Australian Gold, the people might've moved to Australia instead of Kalifornia, because Strzelecki discovery happened before gold was found in California.

@@RobReacts1 Depends on generation and where in Australia you are - I was taught a bit about him, when studying explorers in PRIMARY school, along with Burke and Wills etc.

The geological survey in Victoria. He took no scientific readings, nearly died. He was saved by his aboriginal guide., who received no credit for the discoveries. The area was well known to indigenous communities for thousands of years. Nearly lost the lives of the entire survey party when he insisted on travelling in a straight line due west through the most difficult country imaginable. The map he drew was in Melbourne based on his memories. Bosted of his scientific knowledge yet he had no formal education, picked it up as he went along.

So we are led to believe he discovered gold but did not take a few kilograms of samples so that he could finance his travels and be rich as well.
At the start of the Ballarat gold rush lots of gold nuggets could be found lying on the ground.
Australian names for things are part of our accent, the locals call it by the correct name, but very few others - it least it's not shortened by slang! A Pole, Lithuanian or Russian would pronounce it correctly by their accent! His discovery of gold first is unsupported by facts, a convict named James Daley first discovered gold in New South Wales soon after arriving on the first fleet! Reverend Clarke discovered gold in 1841 in the Blue Mountains! Then William Smith in Bathurst 1841! Hargreaves was rewarded for the discovery of enough gold around Orange to be a viable business opportunity for England! Sir Joseph Banks, William Dawes, etc travelled around with Cook and did scientific surveys of Australia's flora, fauna, geology, weather! Matthew Flinders (with two Aboriginal guides) made many trips around the country exploring and discovering rivers, etc and mapping most of Australia first, from 1801 (WA & Tasmania had been mapped by the Dutch already) - he published his final paper "A Voyage to Terra Australis" in England in 1814 just before he died! He first named the country "Australia", and actually saved us from being a French colony under Napoleon Bonaparte! 🧐 There would be no Australia now without the English explorers and the need for a new colony! 👍

In surname Kościuszko is "sh" truly, but not only. Sz is "sh", but Ś is other sound. When you make SH (SZ) by moving your end of tongue, closing to teeth, then making Ś is moving backside of tongue up. Then we have CI and that is something like Ś but short, just like ch is short version of sh 😊

The Sapiech family is a princely family. Many have gone down in the country's history. Though some had dark sides. Like the last great Sapiecha Primate of Poland. He was a pedophile. He was steadfast during World War II. He was a great patriot. He is a difficult person to assess. Tadeusz Kościuszko is also an American hero. He built the West Point defenses. He was a friend of Jefferson. Kościuszko donated his American fortune to help the black population in USA. Jefferson was supposed to manage it. Unfortunately, he embezzled this money. During the Black Lives Matter protests, a Kosciuszko statue was vandalized in Washington. This is called a giggle of history.

Btw once I respected Tomasz Rożek (made this video), but I watched video where he said that atheism is something more than just non-believing in god, and that you have other views with that already. It's so much bulshit... I wrote a comment that it's not true and atheism means exactly only non-believing in god and no view else. Some from his fandom answered me with attack. I gave them link to the dictionary with definition. Then I decided to not to watch his channel at all.
It's nice that he populares science, but he shouldn't talk about things he doesn't know.
