it's nice to hear a interview with people who are dedicated to the lego technic . no metal custom parts , no over the limit projects and a general interest in machinery. What sariel says is also to be respect , look how others build , do not get into a project that goes over what you can carry , like a over 2 meter machine that proves to grow to heavy and stick to the technic... think of it as a extra challenge. thanks both !

The reason why you think now that the old sets are great sets is because Lego Technic is getting worse every year.
For a long time, they were getting better. Then, it went downhill.
And that's not just nostalgia. It's a fact. You can look at the ratio of actual technic parts like gears vs. beams and panels. Or that B-models disappeared. Or that a license and aesthetics are more important than technic. Or that we don't get a physical remote anymore,....
