I like watching your videos . I bought a Z bender from you
Hi taryl I don't know if your taking the pxss or just having a joke with the England accent but man I haven't laughed so mutch in my life thanks mate from yours truly matt (England) 👍 👌
I've hammered lots of gaskets in my time but never have seen the ball bearing trick. Thanks for that Taryl. Lots of useful info on Taryl Fixes All.
I usta have me a special ball peen hammer (small one) just for making gaskets.
@@Fatamus Me too Dan, still have mine. Can tap right around a 5/16" bolt hole. I think gasket making doesn't happen much any more. Cell phones don't need 'em.
As I was watching Taryl hammer out that gasket I thought about how a small metal roller would work for the main part of it. Might go faster and smoother.
What I used to do when I worked at the Quincy Shipyard eons ago, was do the O.D. first like Taryl did, but then the bolt holes and then I'd put the tightest fitting bolts I could find into the holes so the gasket couldn't move on me, not even a tiny bit. Then I'd do the I.D. and I never once had a gasket that had even a single bolt that didn't line up perfectly. And I made hundreds of gaskets over the years. Btw, I was taught that trick when I was a Machinist Mate in the Navy in the 70's.
@@ralphwatten2426 🤣😂 As Taryl says, And there's your dinner.
I never thought I'd see my hometown in a Taryl video! Grand Falls, Newfoundland! The dealer listing is showing a PO box number for Newfoundland Tractor Company. The actual address is 82 Kenmount Road in St. John's, NL. Today it is currently the location of a Toromont CAT equipment dealer. (I would assume CAT bought out the original tractor company many years ago) When I lived and worked in St. John's I was in that building many times to pickup parts for work. What a small world lol.
I left the East Coast ( Gaspé) in early 70's, Still got salt water in my veins and the taste of all kind of sea food that the Atlantic provided.....Minus baby seals....Ha ha ha !
Gasket making 101: that's exactly how I was taught in diesel repair school, Taryl. Sometimes, "ol' skool" is the best way.
i made literally thousands of gaskets in the shipyard from one inch to six feet
Same here. I mainly make my own because I have sheets of material. That's how I've learned, NOT to depend on part stores on a Sunday.
I’ve been making em like that since I was 18, using cracker and cereal boxes.
@@15Muleskinner interesting
I think it's hilarious that whenever Taryl yells at people, they get moving. Except Elkskins...... He just shakes his head and laughs at him.
That's the difference between being on payroll vs. being a shop rag not on payroll. Haha!
Once Taryl throws him over the 8’ fence Elkskins will have new respect. Just like Ronnie learned.
@@rickr8469 I'm thinking Elkskins is a little large to be tossing around like Ronnie; Maybe a swift twenty six would get him moving. That;s two 13 EEE to the bottom.
Hi Taryl,
Martin, your Aussie Grass rat here. I looked up Ronaldson Bros. and Tippet Ltd at 16 Warren Ave Bankstown, NSW, the Australian Service agent. Sadly, with a Google street view lookup, the premises looks like it's been long closed and abandoned. Sad, in a way, but a lot of fun to go see if I could ferret it out. It's not far away from where I used to live, and I'll be in the area in November, so I'll see if anyone around there remembers the place and perhaps remembers the Bolen's Ridemaster, Now THAT would be a find, here in OZ. Love the video and I always keep learning, even at my age.
Ahhhhh.. thanks Taryl, I really needed to watch you working on the Bolens to relax today.... what a week!
Best part of Sunday, is taryle on my computer.
Like the be best part of waking up is Folgers in my cup?
Wow...learned a lot today. The long cut bolt that is treaded to hold a heavy part while you put a part back is pure genius. The gasket trick is neat too.
Excellent and special video Clutch Disc Man. You guys keep raising the bar with all the tips and tricks etc. That little Bolens is so cool. Rock On guys!
What my dad taught me when I was a kid "I'm 71 years now" about making gaskets is to ball ping the bolt holes first to hole the paper in place. Then put bolts in the holes, then ping the rest of the gasket... why waste tape? thanks for the videos!
In London Ontario Canada, I found the address of E.P. Abey and its actually now a tire shop that I bought my last set of snow tires from!
New Taryl! I know it’ll be good, love this Ride Master series 👍
Oh Taryl, I LOVE your videos! What I learn from you in one video. Just imagine how much more to shadow you for a day.....that would be soooo awesome. Keep feeding us...we love our dinner!!!!!!
When you mentioned Faryl, I was expecting to see his picture. LOL. That gear box reminded me of my first car as a kid.The engine oil was never changed. 40,000 + miles. Serious goo.
Thanks for the video Taryl. Looking forward to the next one.
This was an exciting and interesting episode..your patience sir and attention to detail is to be commended..dinner is delivered..
that gasket trick is how my dad taught me how to make gaskets, the ball bearing trick though, i'm going to have to make one of those tools, i think i have some old ball bearings laying around the shop, or i'll talk to a friend of mine to see if he has some old 3/4 - 1 inch ball bearings laying around his shop, and i might have some either round stock or a chunk of square stock laying around in my scrap pile..... great idea and good info, Old School is the best way
I've got a vintage machine I'm getting to work on about now. a 1967 Bob-Cat snowthrower, I could tell the year by looking at the engine's numbers. 5hp Briggs and Stratton "Easy Spin" starting engine, it does spin easily as butter is to cut but it needs carb cleaned and coil de-rusted. otherwise, its a good snowblower that I think is gonna run
The old school gasket cutting trick was very cool! Thanks for sharing! 👍
This is an awesome video. Many good tips and real repair work. Hats off videos like this are why I subscribed. Thanks guys
Caught this at part 3... Now I have to go back and watch the first two parts!
Slippers is actually good help! Love the slip- man. The best thing that ever happened to that machine is tarell
Can I just say that you are the best most honest channel on CZcams, please please dont stop what you are doing. when I watch your videos and I have a real smile on my face. I have learned so much from you So thank you, and theres ur dinner 🙂
Slick gasket trick. Love your channel.
A lot of people do not like you Taryl, but only the shops that fix engines like you.! You the best Taryl and I thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.! Keep up the good works with many thumbs up.!
Great lesson on gasket marking , saved this for if or when it's needed. Thanks
I love the gasket making trick. Excellent.
U r the best in small engine repair by far..
Taryl killin it again, best thing to ever happen to Podunk!
Show the teardown and rebuild good stuff Taryl i enjoy the channel keep up the good work
It's cool to see how those worked. I've had alot of Bolens stuff walking and riding tractors. They're always different from most others.
You forgot to take the fill plug out when you drain the gear oil. It works just like how you service an outboard gearbox. I was screaming through the screen hahaha.
Or it was probably all the crap he scraped out of there, guess ya missed that part
Trail of Dead well if the full plug was removed and fluid won’t come out, then I can understand as I watched the whole video.
But as shown while he tries to remove the oil, the fill plug was still threaded on.
Won’t matter even if the unit is spic and span, it won’t flow out without the fill plug removed.
:)
Most non boat gear boxes have breathers to let air in and out
Great tips on the gasket making. Thanx !!!
Clement Farm Supply in Russell, Manitoba appears to be the only shop from the Wisconsin manual still operating, at least under its original name up in my area. Great videos Taryl. Always look forward to Sunday morning.
Brake cleaner is my go to for all my cleaning
Fan of rush one of rushes best working man great video taryl rush all the world's on stage
And Neal Peart used to be the parts manager at his families tractor store in Canada!
@@andyhamilton8940 hey Andy good evening thanks for the info had no idea stay safe and there's your dinner take care
When the gearcase was opened I could smell it! Great episode, Thanks 👍
I've been waiting for this
That gasket trick was the best engine tip I've ever seen. Thanks
I remember Windsor Automotive Supply 649 Wyandotte St E, in Windsor Ontario Canada but it is no longer there, just an empty lot. Thanks for the memory.
Love the :Guide bolt: for the trans cover and wheel mount. Forgot about it from my NAVY days. Going to make one for my Sears, Bolens tractor wheels, thanks
Nice job on the exhaust! We did something similar a few weeks back on our Bolens Husky restoration as well! :)
Hey taryl you always do great work and I always learn a lot
Now there's my dinner on making gaskets WOW!!! that is awesome Thank you Taryl
Works best on heavy cast iron, aluminum much softer need to be careful, sheet metal...forgetaboutit.
21:50 Making a gasket.
My Grandfather showed me this method many moons ago.
Tapping on the exterior of the housing to cut the gasket
material......ALSO raises a very small edge on the exterior
of the housing that serves to seize the gasket in place.
It was soooooo brilliant, I remember it many years later (55).
Great video!
Your very creative I like watching you
Nice Win with the manual , Awesome video. watched a farm video and I just saw one in a rice paddy field with metal wheels.
Rochester NY represent!
love the TRACTOR STACK muffkin. Rain Flap inclusive.
This is the funniest and most interesting machine I've seen in a long time. Don't care what it was made for....just its existence is the reward.
Not only are you a fine mechanic, your"re also very funny..I like the videos very informitive
I'm about two and a half hours away from Rochester New York great video can't wait to see it painted
Well done! 👍
The back cover of that manual would make a great T shirt!!!
Good info "clutch disk man" - knowledge thru real work experience
Just about every gearbox I took apart has a coating of red sealer to keep the cast iron contamination from entering the oil. Never surprises me of all the nasties that come from inside gearcases that have been NO MAINTENANCE SERVICES. The PEEN on a ball peen hammer is for hammering over rivets. But also for many other things. Wisconsin engine manual really covers the engine second to none. Love your choice of stainless steel bolts. Thanks for the heads up on friction material Taryl too. My final thought is that you are hired by us all on CZcams to work on the Bolens Ridemaster. Good day too. VF
Thanks Tyral ill never be able to listen to working man with out hearing clutch disk man Hahahahahhaaha! Geddy Lee would be proud !!
I live in Holyoke Mass. That is awesome to see that in the information.
That gasket making trick is pretty neat gonna remember that for future projects
That gasket-making trick was great.
I grew up in Beausejour Mb. Canada. Pronounced "Beau-jeer by locals" Stefaniuks Garage opened in 1945 by Henry and Karolina Stefaniuk and closed in the late 70's. They serviced and sold small gas powered equipment. In the early days of snowmobiling they where the shop you went to for a good deal on a new Polaris snowmobile and to get it tuned up. Henry passed in 1971 his wife Carrie passed away in 2010 she was 102. Very impressive to see equipment that would have been familiar to those small Mom and Pop dealers from long ago being put back in working order by you Taryl.
You are the Man Taryl
Really Neat, on how to make a gasket thanks Taryl.
Taryl that “Governor” you showed is the lubrication system.
Correct. At 31:21 you can see that the article above is referring to Fig. 4
Woot woot! New York in the house!
Exactly how my high school mechanic teacher taught me to do gaskets. Best way ever!
Pretty cool project
You're right about people being able to make a gasket and other things we always made tools to fix a tool I'm glad to see you doing it
Wilson equipment , Scotia gold coop are still in business In Nova Scotia.
LOL - I love that muffkin topper you got on there - it really adds some joie de vivre to that build you got goin on there :) Good job Taryl!!!
Good video Taryl and crew, my father showed me how to make gaskets that way. I'm sure you have seen "black Magic"
"Tire wet" I've used it to loosen old fasteners, clean old machinery.
Spray it on and let soak in it won't evaporate and keeps digging easy on skin and smells tutti-frutti
Central California watching.
Sounds good
The governor is a simple fly weight design. The cut away diagram showed the plunger oil pump with bearing valve and return spring. ( pump-circulated splash system) maintains the proper oil splash by the connecting rod dipper regardless if you have 1 quart or 1/2 quart oil in pan. Their larger aenld 9.2 hp used a pump driven oil sprayer. Great engines. Have several and fun to work on!
Kept me on it for all three episodes in one go. It think it’s the theatre dancing and singing thrown in for free. Theatres closed during lockdown but not Daryl😀. Thanks.
Great tip on making gasket holes. I always put bolts in as I make the holes to keep alignment. I was yelling to poke that drain hole with a screwdriver in case it was caked over inside with dirt/debris. The Cat does not approve of your efforts.
Likely 60+ years ago I was in a shop where the V2 or 4 (I forget) Wisconsin was being worked on. It had a huge flywheel with 3" long vanes on the perimeter pointing outwards. The engine was off of a Massey Baler. When started up in the shop and revved up, one of those vanes broke, breaking others and a piece hit a man in the throat. Not good times.
Yup! Did you hear me yelling along with you? Put the bolts in first? OOps! Another trip to the car parts place. They kept the light on for him!
Long live Bolens Ridemaster. not a spray wand on air compressor ,but a shop vac for cleaning exhaust port ,after taping , had to do that very thing on mine , nice to see the dinosaur roll, long live Wisconsin Engines , nice manual , Thank You Taryl for videos
As gear guy i use break clean on the nasty stuff . I agree that Purple power does make a great solvent in the parts washer as well. I also like to stick my gaskets on with permatex high tack spray gasket.Great as always Taryl!
That "ride-master" contraption looks like a cartoon drawing come to life. Also, they sure did use small gas tanks.
Good video T! 🇺🇸✌️👍
Hey taryl it's learn a lot from your shows
Mark here from South Australia. The service agent for Wisconsin engines (Finsbury Sales and Service) is still in business. We had a Wisconsin engines on our hay baler down on the farm (1960's) made under licence by Ronaldson Tippet here in Australia .
A tip for tapping I have seen others do is to put grease on the tap. It helps lubricate as well as catch the shavings. Take the tap out frequently and wipe the metal particles off as well as re-apply grease. Great video and thank you for the awesome content!
Pa remembers bests at 415 Queen St in Sault Ste Marie, On. Good stuff
I like that color scheme with all the yellow
I could use that tractor down here on my farm in Punta Gorda.
The neighbors would ALL want one!
Awesome
Don’t need to go to new yawk for friction material Tarly. Lima clutch and joint over here in Ohio does the same thing. Relined the brake shoes for myrtle (my 1949 Plymouth street rod) and built a new drive shaft for her when I put the 350 Chevy in. Good people to work with.
My Gandma had the walk behind version with the cultivator attachment on it. I remember that you had better be walking when you put it in gear or it was leaving without you. :)
I had forgotten about that machine until I watched your video.
I love my new t shirt and keep up the good work bro love all y'all
I love Rochester clutch and brake I have been using them for 10 years to replace the brake linings on my wheel horse brake bands, and also brake shoes for a Ford subcompact diesel tractor! It’s a small shop and the guy really knows his stuff
That hammer trick for making the gasket is genius.
Fire it up !!! Lol,,,, Elkskins always makes me laugh. Nice job cleaning it all up Taryl , I wish I understood all that the way you do. What a strange governor system.
i like the way you did the muffkin.
Rustoleum Hammered is the Best Durable finish on any metal outdoor rattlecan period imo Teral. & Love the texture going on the project too...it tells you things, mistakes and art It's next to truck bed liner durability and Hamm's ain't too bad either.
I enjoy every one of your school lessons so armchair Rocket Scientists like me can fix their mowwhatever and not be ashamed. Thanks.
🍺🍻
They call me clutch disc man. I guess that's what i am. That was really funny Taryl. He likes making classic rock song parodies. Take care and GOD bless!
E-Z Off oven cleaner, overnite. What I use on burnt on oils. Basically lie, like plumbers use in drains, also takes aluminum off of crank rod journals. Neutralizing it with Sprite or baking soda, rinse with H20.
That thing is a hoot to operate. The rear seat arrangement reminds me of a silkie, used in horse racing.
Woooo hoooo. Yea!
I'm from nova scotia and Wilson equipment is still around also scotian gold is still around but i don't think they deal this stuff anymore their called scotian gold country store now.
