  • Having defeated the British, gaining its independence after eight bloody years of war, the great American experiment was almost taken over by a military coup before it had properly begun. Yet again, it was George Washington who stepped in - not to win a war this time, but to quell a mutiny. www.battlefields.org/untold

I like the detail of Washington with his glasses. That was a very important part of his Newburgh address. I hope y’all elaborate on this fact further.

This is Vital Information for defending this second amendment.
When the second amendment was ratified, they were aware of the possibility of an insurrection and they did not try to ban guns, public assembly or private militias.
In the context of how the supreme court views text history and tradition, this is critical.

So many things could have gone wrong during the war and in the years following, and yet we held together. Where are the Washingtons of today to help us through this time? I sometimes think God (as Washington would say "Providence") has taken His hand of blessing away, or perhaps we have removed His hand by our own arrogance and pride.

The officers were well within their rights to contest their pension issues. BTW we are a constitutional republic NOT a Democracy.

I disagree. They don't if it means throwing away all that had been fought for all eight yrs. It was Washingtons speech that shamed them into returning to their units. He asked the officers if he could read them a small speech he had written. With a flair for the dramatics, he paused and asked them to excuse him for a moment as he needed to put on his glasses as he lost alot of his sight in the service of his country. And that just started the ball rolling. When he was finished, many of the officers were in tears He had shamed them as none had lost as much as he had but he would still serve.

@@stevewixom9311 Washington understood that sometimes a leader must be an actor. He loved the theater and understood how acting can help. He was also somewhat vain. He was careful to present himself in front of his men. He fumbled and stumbled through the speech. Then he pulled spectacles from his pocket and said “Forgive me for I have grown blind as well as gray in the service of my country.”
