    Informative clip about aviation at rural places. What I wonder: The grass is always in perfect condition on this mountain airstrips like at the golf court. Do they mow the grass by hand or an engine driven grass mower? Can you give us some exclusive details about airstrip maintenence? Do they create those strips by hand or is first a helicopter delivering building-site-machines? Thanks

      @ZehrAir  Před 2 lety +2

      Each village has the responsibility to keep it mowed. some are done by machete, some are done with weed eaters. Often the grass is to tall and the pilot will have to close the runway until it is cut. Some of the airstrips have been expanded by the government and they helicopter in large equipment but most of the strips are completely built and maintained by the local people. Mostly by hand.

      @@ZehrAir The villages need to keep Goats that can keep the runways "chewed". They will eat anything and could be a source of protein in the occasional meal.

    Subscribed, thanks for this channel. Fell in love with Porter and Papua after enjoying "Worst place to be a pilot" miniseries years ago. Btw are those terminal plates available somewhere or do Papua chart flight operators keep them secret? :) Would be nice to have them for my virtual Papua flights with Porter in flight sim. Safe flights and calm winds!

      It would be nice to get a Lat & Lon of some of these strips. Some are already in MSFS2020 flight simulator but others not. I can find them infrequently on Google Earth and then fly to them in the sim since they do show up in the Satellite image that MSFS2020 uses. Great job with high pucker factor.
