Yeah, Suprsingly I like her story more than Carol Danvers (MCU Capt. Marvel) she seems to dislike/grudge on Carol too after what happened after the snap.
I think their relationship is strained because Carol was too busy saving other worlds when the Avengers are trying to stop Thanos from killing half of the Universe Monica knew that Carol could have been in Infinity War to prevent the snap so that she can say goodbye to her mother.

It's kind of interesting to see how she was the leader of the Avengers as a Black Woman with Natural Hair and had to be de - powered to be replaced by America.... and then had to give up her name to some other dude multiple times because reasons.... Seems a bit too much like real life for comics.

@@AspiePilo82 You are correct. We shouldn't talk about how bad David Hasselhoff's rendition of Fury was. It's one thing to re-write a character completely. It's another to strip away a character in order to boost some other narrative. Just to be clear I didn't like the Idea of Jane Foster becoming Thor either. The hammers blessing was that those who were worthy to lift it would have the powers of... not become Thor. To me that is along the same lines. Depower her for your story but to strip her identity multiple times and then relax her hair to make her more mainstream says a lot. But I guess that Idea makes you uncomfortable.
Since Monica has such a major positive reaction since her arrival in WandaVision, we know she's getting a lot of spotlight in the MCU, but right now in the comics, i'm surprised she isn't in a title, or has at least a miniseries right now. We need to energize that market synergy!
Maybe she'll have a miniseries after WandaVision ends, just like how Harley Quinn did after Suicide Squad.

I think that has more to do with the “GLOBAL WORLD HEALTH CRISIS “ and all comics getting delayed indefinitely in 2020. Comics that had film tie-ins or showcased a new MCU character got so delayed as they are trying to wait and see when MCU films finally get released.
Wanda doesn’t have a series (although she’s been in a handful of panels in Strange Academy)

The druid as he pointed out was just transitional like in wrestling where they need to hand the belt over to someone else but they dont wanna make that person weak on the way out. I hated that captain marvel had a short run as leader, like i was really angry when I read the issue she lost her powers in. That said if it had to be someone at least it was cap who lead them the most over the comics in avengers.
Thanks for mentioning the hair thing. That's a bigger deal than people know. There's still certain schools in America that have sent girls home for braids, and other traditional hairstyles plus some jobs forcing pressed hair. I love Monica's hair in Wandavision, it's something about it that adds to her character.

@@marlygee Yes on discrimination but not really specific to hair ethnically as far as I know. Maybe in some places. Little small town places are usually where the stories come from and go viral if it gets exposed. It takes pressure from people for them stop or undo a suspension or whatever. So shout to those who use their voice in these situations. Job wise I think it's illegal but wearing natural hair can be frowned upon in some places. Depends on the job, or the style.

When I was watching WandaVision I actually commented specifically about how great her hair is and I didn't know about any of this controversy. The hair was definitely an important part of it.

It baffles me why the MCU didn’t have Monica instead of Carol? For starters she’s a cop and had a unique power set. And secondly she’s a good character who happens to be black. Heck marvel could have had the 90s aesthetic by having her movie be a 90s buddy cop movie set in New Orleans.

I'm still wondering this. Especially when it was hinted that Captain Marvel was coming to the MCU, my thought was, "Oh hell yeah! Either Mar-Vell or Monica is coming to the MCU!" That hype turned into pure disappointment upon finding out they were gonna use Danvers
@@SteelSpurs Agreed. Carol Danvers I argue has only ever been decent with Claremont and Brian Reed. Sue Deconnick tarnished her and Marvel has been desperate to make her center of the universe. Instead why not utilize Monica? Heck Iron Man,Cap etc where B to C tiered characters but they became megastars thanks to their movies. Why not Monica? Heck her perspective as a police officer could have been well handled as it would have added some nice diversity with regards to career and perspective. Also her powers are dope. You can do a lot with them.

I wish they kept Maria alive to help guide Monica and be there for her. It sucks that they always kill off heroes' parents for "development" or some tragic backstory, and it would have been refreshing to have this very resilient, powerful hero that still relies on her mama for advice, reassurance, and emotional support from time to time. Nearly all heroes have dead or MIA parents and its cliche and tiring as hell

I liked her in Wandavision already but now I'm sincerely hoping she sticks around and becomes a popular superhero. Make her an A-lister like Iron Man, Captain America, Spiderman.
I hope she gets a larger role in the MCU. Up to Episode 5 of WandaVision, and she's clearly shown to be an intelligent, sympathetic woman. The way she handles Wanda's threat with compassion where her higher ups would rather take a more final approach has me anticipating a conflict of interests within S.W.O.R.D. soon. The character of Monica is only making it better.
Well she's already confirmed for Captain Marvel 2 so pretty sure she's on track to have a larger role.
Monica is probably the best person who can handle Wanda currently. She understands more than anyone how it feels to lose a loved one.

Monica is probably the most disrespected character in all of Marvel comics given her status, I always hated how marvel handled her. I hope they treat her better in the MCU. Also, I wanna see Blue Marvel in the MCU as well.

Her story is so heartbreaking. I’d never heard of her until WandaVision, yet she’s immensely powerful and was so well liked. It really hurts that racism and sexism cast her into the shadows to be whitewashed by Cpt America... And then numerous other characters taking and ripping her very identity. Then on top of that they made her character suffer such vile and traumatic fates... The intention was clear from the start and I’m proud of her creator for calling it out and standing by her.

I've never heard of Monica flambeau until the beginning of this year. I watched another youtuber who did a depth analysis on Monica background. I also read about nubia, wonder woman sister who is stronger and more skilled fighter than wonder woman. I have never seen any of WW or the captain marvel movies...I am not sure I will watch any of them.

As a black woman this whole ordeal with Monica triggered me to the hilt. it's actually a metaphorical illustration of how black women are treated throughout their lives in the real world. Incredible absolutely incredible.

Honestly, she deserved better than being the supporting cast in Wanda's story. She was in the first Avenger's comic I ever read, and I didn't even know any other version of Captain Marvel existed until many years later. Her powers are SO COOL. She's got a fun personality, and there's just a lot to like.

If they acknowledge that her and Maria were clearly a couple, than that's at least fuel for characterization but really Monica is already better than Carol, too. Great breakdown, I've been researching Monica Rambeau since her announcement to the MCU. Her recent portrayal by Teyonah Parris has been great, and after episode 7 I'm completely hooked on her potential!

I will point out that Monica has been showing up off and on in Carol's book for a bit, which is better than nothing. Still, she deserves her own ongoing.
A lot of people are hating on Monica and calling her character boring. Marvel fans are so toxic, honestly they always hate on the black characters. Let’s not forget how bad they talked about Black Panther (saying the whole movie wasn’t that good) like bitch it’s top 5 out of 23.

I have actual autographed comics signed by Jim Starlin sitting in my storage. Monica came after him. So if YOU could actually do the research you'd see it. A little more history for you. Carol Danvers was Ms Marvel. Then Rouge took her powers. She became Binary. Then eventually and currently Captain Marvel. Monica changed and became/Photon/Spectrum. Once again, I have the comics themselves. Stop relying on Wikipedia to do your "research".
I've been really enjoying Monica in wandavision , it's sad to see how mistreated the character was in the comics let's hope the mcu does her justice , considering Cap is retired ,Black window is Dead and so is tony , Monica would make a great leader for the avengers

She's such an awesome character, I already loved her in Wandavision but this with her comic powers and origin story will make her so much better. I hope Marvel cinematic universe gives her the justice she deserves.

Yep. The excessive radiation, combined with Wanda "warping" her repeatedly (likely making her molecules scramble), and finally flinging her back through the barrier with her "protective spell" keeping Monica safe, seems to be the start of her getting her powers. At least, based on episode 6. Could be still be more to come though! :)

It was so cool to learn that a black woman was the leader of such a prolific superhero team in an era where black people and women were so mistreated by society at large. (They still are, very much, but you know what I mean)

But aside from that, I also hope she gets to become a big part of the Avengers. The comics version of Monica would finally get the justice she deserves.

Wow, I had heard of Spectrum and Photon, but somehow I hadn't connected them to Monica Rambeau. I'm kind of glad I didn't, because it means her getting her powers in WandaVision was a total surprise to me. I'm really looking forward to what they do with this character, and I'm so glad they've represented her well so far!
In her first appearance Monica was not a beat cop. She was an officer of the Harbor Patrol part of Coast Guard.
