Ultimate Budget Off-Road Vehicle - 2000-2004 Nissan Xterra 2nd Gen WD22

  • I have quite a few videos talking about off-road vehicles, and in those videos i cant really dig deep into an overview on those cars. So, today I wanted to do things a bit different.
    This Nissan Xterra from 2000-2004 is the ultimate budget off-road overlanding vehicle that can get you into the scene. Its reliable, durable, and rugged.
    There Xterra came with a XE model which had a 4cylinder engine, and a SE model which came with a v6 engine with 270-280HP and its paired with either an auto transmission or a manual.
    In 2002, the Xterra received a redesign which I personally don't like, however, they had to update the vehicle due to competition.
    Although the Xterra has a few issues, its still, in my opinion, one of the best budget SUVs to get into the off-road scene.

    I got a 2003 Xterra 4x4 supercharged got for under 3K last year hasn't had a single issue at 170k miles i put 10K on it highly recommended budget suv! Not a lot of them still on the road and its unique look still makes it look attractive even in 2020. Only downside is the 10mpg and the necessary premium fuel with the supercharged model

  • @hotflashfoto
    @hotflashfoto Před 3 lety +7

    It might be worth noting that the title suggests that the model years from 2000-2004 were a "2nd Gen". They were the 1st Gen. The 2nd Gen ran from 2005 to 2015.
    The SE was the up-level model with nicer stuff, but it took having the SC version, which was the one with the supercharger, to get the extra horsepower, and even then it was only 220 HP, not 270-280 HP. The non-SC 3.3L V6 put out 170-180 HP.

    For any other perspective buyers, be aware that the fuel injectors are another known fault of these vehicles. I recently had to replace all six due to a terrible misfire that rendered the vehicle virtually inoperable. Parts are fairly cheap but if you do the work yourself, the upper intake plenum is a real PITA. In all, it was about a $300 fix.

    I owned a 2006 2x4 sport off road model. This truck never failed me in all the years that I owned it. I have taken it literally to any dirt road and hills even the desert. I don’t drive it much anymore since I retired 5 yrs ago and my wife wants me to sell it. I can’t find the strength to sell a car that gave me so much enjoyment. I still work on it and do regular maintenance but I just look at it now. I would recommend getting one.

  • @aclockworkmolten-orange7330

    I want an affordable 4x4 rig as here in Mexico there are a lots of trails to go just for the sight. And yes, here the Jeeps are really overpriced (as 10k for a used Wrangler YJ '95 or 7k for a well preserver XJ), and no more 4x4 options realy (Isuzus are either overpriced or not legaly imported), the X-Terras were sold in all options here and are fairly priced and now I want one!
    I liked the look of them when young and the first gen was released and when I could afford a car I was sad that the X-Terra was discontinued but now looking to an used 4x4 V6 manual, great video.

  • @cardboardkiller6883
    @cardboardkiller6883 Před rokem

    The kid is right, you won't find a more dependable & capable offroad rig for the $$$ (he looks almost exactly like my son, lol).
    My "War-Wagon" (beater 4x4) is a 2002 Xterra V6/auto with manual everything. Other than typical accessories failing (alternator, starter, radiator, etc), I haven't had any major issues with it. I have been beating on her for years and she just takes it. She's got 189,000mi on her and still running strong. It's finally time to replace the front end bushings, ball joints, etc but that is not only to be expected, it's gone a lot longer than most vehicles before needing this repair.
    I've thought about upgrading to a 2nd Gen X but this one does everything that I need it to do. Now, if it was my DD, then I would definitely get the 2nd Gen because they are much nicer on pavement but mine has been retired from DD status for some time now...

    Your first choice would be my last.
    Owned a Jeep GCL and they're trash.
    Expensive for no reason.
    Parts are overpriced and often worse that what it replaced.
    I have 2 X's now.
    2000 5-speed rwd.
    2003 auto 4x4.
    Both vg33 SE.
    The cost effective parts and easy fixes make it perfect for off road applications.
    The v8 Jeep GCL broke an axle pulling a tree stump.
    Same stump pulled out with ease, in a rwd xterra.
    Cost to replace the rear axle in the jeep, was over $5k.
    Researched the average cost of the same in the X and it's usually $2-3k.
    You don't buy a jeep to knock it around.

The most gutless SUV/ Truck I’ve ever had! It takes a century to pick up speed on the highway and you have to rev the heck out of it ! You have images of 1st Gen Xterras mixed with 2nd Gen, 2000-2004 are the first gen X, but you have it as the second.
