      I'd blame the dummkopf who put the LZ next to a river. Still, there's a chance he survived.

      There are weak currents and shallow water in a river, and fallschirmjaeger are the most experienced infantrymen, so they should know how to swim and ditch gear quickly.

  • @graustreifbrombeerkralle1078

    You don't see this kind of plane getting flown often in gameplay videos of this game. Good to see you give the Ju 52 some love.

    Talk about a fantasy mission! Ju 52’s carrying out a daylight parachute drop in summer 1944. They would have run into 40 Allied fighters, not 4, and been slaughtered.

    I've often wondered why the Junkers company was so determined to make fixed landing gear happen on so many of their aircraft. They certainly did something right with the 52, though, since some of them are still active in commercial service.

    Growing up, a gentleman in my area owned "Iron Annie" a Junkers 52.
    It was a fixture at all of our local airshows.
    I loved seeing that lumbering warbird with its three motors growling over my hometown.
    Sometimes some AT-6 Texans disguised as A6M Zeroes would show up. They had been used in the classic movie :Tora, Tora, Tora.
    Good times.

    That's a good thing... "Diversity."
    You don't always have to be in a fighter, flying in intense battles. Bombers, troops, cargo, are good alternatives for a slower, 'milk run,' approach to flying.
    Slow and low means you get to enjoy the scenery as well, besides seeing the tops of clouds!

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo Před 2 lety

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo Před 2 lety

      @Calum Little you talk about drops, I talk about paradrops. The Webster definition for that is "delivery of cargo, emergency supplies, or personnel by parachute from an airplane in flight".

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo Před 2 lety

      @Calum Little not 'by parachute' and 'by airplane in flight'

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo Před 2 lety

      Ah, I found the info. Minimum jump altitude was 80 - 100 m AGL, depending on the parachute type. Which is surprisingly low. Windspeed had to be max 6 m/sec. It took 30 m / 2.3 sec for the chute to open fully. There was no reserve chute and no steering. Only light equipment could be worn.

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo Před 2 lety

      @Calum Little 2 500 ft is correct for today's US sport parachutists/skydivers.
