  • **I mention catching my biggest striper ever in the outro of this video. I must have accidentally deleted the clip, unfortunately.
    Date: 7/27/20
    Location: Portland, ME
    On our way north, we took a pit stop in Portland, ME. I decided to try my had at some salt water fishing, but this is not my game. I was honestly stoked to get bites. Hope you enjoy the video, and stay tuned for more videos from Maine and New Hampshire!

      I was pleasantly surprised to get any bites at all, saltwater is definitely not my game haha Last time I was in Portland I tried the same jetty and didnt even see a fish. Smallies are next, should post that video tomorrow as long as all goes well.

      @@SCOutdoorsProductions Strippers are fun to catch at any size, particularly with the rod you were using. One of my goals for the coming months is to do more saltwater fishing. I had an ocean kayak within my grasp until a huge vet bill, new flooring and airplane insurance came due. I'll be chasing smallies on either the Codo or Conewago Creek Monday evening. I need to tie up some flies!

    7.5 inch slug-go with a 5/0 weighted swimbait hook. That's all I use for striped bass generally. I will use a 1/2oz or 1oz bucktail jig with a 4in paddletail trailer on occasion.

  • @Peter-zg3em
    @Peter-zg3em Před 3 měsíci

    those paddletail swimbaits are never a bad bet. color isn't a huge deal when you're in coastal new england water and it's deep enough. those mackerel pattern jigs will catch fish when there are no mackerel around. i run bone for my most of my topwaters, but 10-15 feet down it's pretty dark anyway, and 50 feet down it's basically pitch black and color matters less and less. the key when you're jigging is having the proper weight and profile to be able to get down to the bottom and get your action. just a matter of the wind, current, distance, line thickness, etc. trial and error. the most important thing is knowing where the bottom is. throw topwaters to start at dusk and dawn or during the daytime if there are storms. these are your rangefinders, your announcement that there is action on an otherwise empty body of water. spooks for finesse and current, pencils for bigger bait, deeper water, longer casts, and wind. jig during the day if there's sun, and at night you want to fish the water column. sp minnow is the best place to start at night when you fish stripers. find some decent current, reel in your slack, and twitch the plug over structure.
