Given the time, effort and expense of just getting to MV, I found that reserving a tribal guide for a dedicated photo tour was well worth the relatively nominal cost. We started at dawn and spent about 4 hours traveling through the tribal areas not accessible from the public tour road. The guide provided the vehicle and drove, which was required for the off road areas we accessed. If you want the classic "kitch" photo, the local hotel (Goulding's) used to hire a tribal member to dress up every day like a chief and sit on his horse atop John Ford Point, staring into the distance, so its guests on their bus tour could take his picture from the parking lot. If you're in the parking lot ....

Im going in Feb. and this is what I plan to do. They will also take you out at night, which is high on my list.
Wonderful photos, that place is so beautiful, I was there a few years ago and took the tour with a Navajo guide, he was very nice and a lot of stories, thank you.

Outstanding images of the iconic American Southwest. Job well done, my friend.
I had one of my all-time most-amazing days of photography here a few years ago. It's absolutely worth it to hire a guide and see the less-traveled areas. Carl Phillips was my guide, for morning and late-afternoon sessions (mid-day break for lunch and a nap), and knew when to be where for the light. It was very special, and not just for the photography. Also, Goulding's Lodge isn't inexpensive but very much worth it.

Great introduction to Monument Valley. This place was also on my bucket list for many years. Once I finally had the opportunity to vist Monument Valley, there was so much more to see and photograph than the Valley itself. A guided tour into Mystery Valley - next to Monument Valley opens up whole new perspectives of whole Navajo reservation area and the Night Views from Gouildings are also spectacular. Spring brings clear weather and nice colors. These are some hints for the next visits.

Nice work. One correction, the word Butte is pronounced with a long U sound. So it sounds like B-you-t. People could get the wrong idea if you told them you went there to photograph butts. :-)

Thanks Rob! No I sadly don't have any plans for that. Most of these travels I pay myself and only a few parts of them are payed by working for someone or I get a discount for making a video here or there. NZ would be a huge expense even though I would love to visit :)

That's true, the industry standard these days are 35mm. I don't want to "spam" info all over the pictures, so people having an APS-C sized sensor has to do those calculations themselves ;)

Great video, as always. BTW, "butte" is pronounced like the first syllable of "beaut-iful". Don't be embarrassed -- the first time I saw that word I pronounced it "butty". Being American can do that. ;)

Hehe -- I once pronounced "La Jolla" phonetically. My friend from California laughed until he turned blue. (It's pronounced La Hoya.) It's what happens when one learns through reading -- that's why I never pick on people for pronunciation.
By the way, while I love these wide vistas, have you considered doing a telephoto landscape video? It gets into tutorial territory, which you may not be interested in, but I (and many others) have used too-wide lenses trying to get the grand panorama, only to find we have included a bunch of distracting 'stuff'. I see you know to not go too wide (by your use of zooms), and it would be good to see examples of recognizing when to use telephotos to 'get past' the scrub brush and power lines.
Mads, I have been to this location many times. At the time I photographed monument Valley I was living in Denver CO. It was about an 8 hour Drive. Well worth every mile. Your work is stunning.
