Very well-conveyed video. I learned much from it though I am a great movie buff. Ideally speaking, these things are all a play on our ego so truthfully our sense of personal importance shouldn’t be ranked according to this. But from the societal point of view, we can take these awards as a way to introduce people to different genres of films and acting or storytelling. Most of these award shows are really publicity showpieces and have a lot of money and behind the scenes motivation backing them in terms of who gets what kind of recognition. If truth be told, the Indian winners had a lot of marketing or financial clout or networking backing them at the Oscars. The Filmfare awards can certainly do with improving themselves but the unfortunate nature of the Indian awards shows just aren’t what they used to be. They too are publicity mouthpieces. But I agree they have the potential to be turned around too.

There are many reasons IMO as to why we look up to the oscars 1. External (foreigner) validation 2. Lack of credibility in the Indian award system 3. Media hype around oscars. India has its own unique way of storytelling that probably doesn't resonate well with an international audience. As a country, our sensibilities are very different. Ultimately, I think the biggest reward for a movie or people involved in its making is the appreciation it receives from its audience, or the impact it has on revolutionizing ideas in its region. Despite everything, awards will always carry a bias and amount of subjectivity. Also, these awards are self-congratulatory most times. The only people that should feel disappointed at losing should be the nominees and no one else.

As a North Indian, what is really concerning me is that South India is really topping the North in almost every great subject: education, safety, literacy, cleanliness, manners, and now movies. And what they get in return from us: Hindi imposition, state migrants, etc. I’m still surprised how the South wants to be a part of India despite all this.
