I got mine yesterday. I set it up, plugged it in and it works just like any other machine I've owned. I like touching the screen instead of that knob that you had to push and then turn and push again just to change humidification or pressure settings on the Dreamstation One. So for me, this is an improvement and it's smaller so fits easier into my suitcase when traveling.

Spot on analysis of the Dreamstation 2 bad design flaws and how cheaply it was made. I really like your explanation of OSCAR and how it benefited your CPAP therapy. I am really glad I just replaced my Philips Respironics Series One APAP with a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP. FYI, Philips implemented a feature in the Dreamstation 2 that allows DME's to lock you out of the clinicians menu with a PIN password.

I hate mine. Leaks air. Dry mouth so bad. I do have arthritis. Have to get out of bed abd turn lights on to see what happening. Called my supply co. They were rude said I could buy another one, but Ins would not pay until 5 years. I got mine on a😅 recall. Should I call Medicare. I have exc ins and they paid for it. It does not see. To be helping me at all. I have already been through 4 different headgears and mask. It’s made cheap and so trashy. Do not feel I am benefiting from it as I should. Bp high and headaches not any better, I have the black. They control mine from the drs side. Then what can one do or what is the solution? I don’t know how to rebate mine with them having my SIM card.

After using Dream Station 2 for 2 years and the station 1 and Responics model 50 before that hears my take:
Tube outlet - perfect as a side sleeper with connection at top of mask , the tube lays correctly to top of my head with the screen facing me. And using a heated tube means I can’t use a 90 degree angle ( no electric connection).
Water chamber - still on original black lid, no broken parts , no scratches on finish. It is very easy to get use to its quarks. I fill the chamber every morning and on occasion I do spill a little but no big deal. When I travel I have always take my machine and use distilled water (by car or plane ) so the one piece unit is better in my case, no worries about losing cover plate when not using humidifier.
Filter - When you fill the water chamber chance the filter. There is an auto reminder available on the display screen.
Display screen - is not the best design or easiest to use.
Software updates have fixed locked display for me.
I have more real estate on my night stand now a definite plus.
This is just my take on this machine, it’s not perfect the company has been severely damaged by this foam issue. They are pulling out of the north American market now which leaves us with a very limited choice of machines
Just my opinion of Dream Staton 2

OSCAR is a must for effective treatment. My sleep doctor (who I'm looking to replace with whoever my new, absolutely amazing, PCP recommends) doesn't even do followups himself. He just has a nurse from his office call and tell you 'you're doing ok' and charge for a full office visit. Not knocking the nurses, they do their best with the information and knowledge they have, but it's not useful for the patients unless something seriously needs adjustment. I'm currently doing the same thing you did with OSCAR. I've switched my machine to APAP mode and am dialing in the pressures after getting data for a few nights after each change. Without this I'd be stuck on CPAP therapy that isn't ideal and spending co-pay after co-pay to try and get some useful information for adjustments from the doctor.

Personal Tip to the folks looking to by the Upcoming Resmed 11 or another brand: Buy the Resmed 10, instead of waiting for the Resmed 11 (check you model and treatment requirements Resmed has 6+ different Model-10 machines). Why?" (1) Proven robustness, dependability and simple design. (2) Parts and accessories are relatively cheap outside the DMEs. I use Amazon and eBay for replacements and (3) SD card interface with Oscar. #3 has been big reason why I personally recommend this. No! I'm not sponsored by Resmed: but would if I could!

I get my replacement tomorrow and I’m not happy with the humidifier situation. I don’t use the humidifier and now I’m going to have to lug it on planes and in my backpack. This is bad design. I wish I had my Resmed back. Well I got my unit. I believe the company got a team together and said “let’s design the worst cpap ever guys!”. The thing is huge with the integrated humidifier which you have to leave attached, the touch screen pops on if you get anywhere near the on off switch in the middle of the night but is unresponsive if you want to make changes, and the design is cheap and flimsy. 🤬

I asked the prescribing Phy , Sleep study and pharmacy suppliers why I could no longer retrieve my data on the Respironic's website. They could not answer me. They said I was the only one that had complained. Your mention of the Oscar 1.5.1 program was just what I needed. I installed it on my Windows 11 64 bit and it is up and running and with all the reports it is capable of producing i feel as though I'm back in control of my CPAP routine again.

I agree. Terrible design. Just bought one to replace my dreamstation 1. daily refill of the water is a real pain. I used to just be able to open the resevoir by my bed and pour in the water. Not any more - major hassle and its still new, I share concern about the little plastic hooks breaking. In addition, I need to fill the water to the fill line to accommodate the dry air in the Canadian winter. The old dreamstation I could open and see whether the fill line was hit by looking at the transparent feed tube. This new one I can't see through the black feed and must remove the reservoir, take it to a well lit level surface, and bend over to watch the fill line from the side. Then transport it back without spilling (remember I am at the max fill line). Every night, this routine. The first time a little did get spilled into the machine itself (the awkward reattachment process jerked the water). Had to detach the hose and let it blow out for about 5 minutes. I assume all this is to keep manufacturing costs to a minimum because they had to give them away to all the dreamstation 1 owners who filled out the recall notice form. Don't buy the Dreamstation 2. I still like the Phillips mask (light and easy to wear), which is why I bought the new one - but every other disadvantage noted in this review has already proved to be true in the first week of ownership of the Dreamstation 2. I agree - don't buy it.

The top is the gasket and completely comes off, But the entire humidifier is detachable. The filters on the Go are specific with plastic frame into the machine and not washable. With the humidifier, the hose is not stable, and wrong angles.

The cheap, I’ll-fitting, janky, plastic humidifier will quickly be the downfall of this sub-par machine. At least with the old one, you could just disconnect the humidifier (which some of us don’t use) and plug the hose directly into the machine. Can’t do that with the new one. Plus you also need to remove the humidifier to change/clean the air filters unlike the old machine where the filters have outside access. As for the problematic foam, reports are that the new machine’s foam may be even more prone to disintegration. Stay tuned.

    • @AdventureswithCPAP
      @AdventureswithCPAP  Před 3 lety +2

Oftentimes, what happens is that your sleep doctor has a relationship with a CPAP manufacturer, and receives kickbacks from the company for prescribing their products exclusively. Both Philips and ResMed have been busted for this by the DOJ here in the US, and both have happily paid the fines and kept on with the same practices.
If your doctor is on the take with Philips, chances are good that he or she wrote a branded prescription. In other words, they didn't write a prescription for an Auto CPAP with a specific range of pressures; they wrote a prescription for a specific brand of device.
I'm running into this problem now, because my initial prescription was for a DreamStation and a DreamWear Full Face Mask. The DreamWear Full Face did NOT work for me. I've been through four different masks trying to find the right one for me. But when I reach the end of my ten-month cool-off period and insurance finally starts paying for supplies, I'm gonna have a fight on my hands. Technically, my insurance will only pay for the DreamWear Full Face, since that's what I was prescribed. I got a clean prescription from my GP for supplies of my choice, but my DME won't accept it.

DME’s don’t contract with insurances for specific brand of equipment. I’ve been a DME supplier for 30 years and you can request whatever brand you want. You might have to go to a DME that carries that brand, but no, the insurance and DME aren’t in come contractual agreement to only supply ONE brand.

    • @AdventureswithCPAP
      @AdventureswithCPAP  Před 3 lety +1

@@WoodyONeal, my prescription is specifically for a Philips DreamStation, and my sleep doctor refused to write me a script for a new one. Had my GP not gone over her head and wrote me a clean non-branded script, my insurance company wouldn't pay for a ResMed machine under any circumstances.
Mind you, my insurance company absolutely refuses to pay for a new machine of any brand unless my sleep doctor can prove it's medically necessary -- and mine won't -- but let's just say I could get them to bend on that. I would still need a clean, non-branded script, or a script for a ResMed specifically, or BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama wouldn't chip in a cent for it. And that's coming straight from a BCBS customer service agent.

Most of the things you say, I agree with and I don't like the design as much as the recalled DreamStation. With the old one I could read the screen while lying in bed; not the new one. However, you only need to wipe your finger across the screen to turn it on; don't tap, hit or poke. Banging your finger up and down is not good; I learned after awhile to just slide the finger across. Mine is a year old, with no scratches on top; I clean the top with a no alcohol unscented wipe. Get a tiny brush that is like a bottle washer, but very small. I got one at a dollar store, and use it for washing those two small holes. Always be gentle. I keep a bottle of distilled water beside my bed, and fill the reservoir right there. Do you think you may be getting leakages because of the beard and moustache? I rarely get any leak at all. However, I find I am getting better results with the DreamStation 2 than I did the original DreamStation.

I'm over 70 and have been using CPAP for about 12 years, including Dream-Station and, since 2021, Dream-Station 2. Never had a problem with the last two machines. I use the round button to turn the machine on at night and off in the morning. No fiddling around with the settings and I rarely use the touch-screen. No problem with cleaning, removing/opening/closing/inserting the tank, none of the issues you describe. The only problem I have are occasional leaks from my full-face Vitera mask because sometimes it shifts (side-sleeper and full beard). Who cares if the surface is not scratch resistant?

Dealt with them and recall.. everyone knows how that goes no where and with false hope. Imagine WAITING for a year while sucking cancer fumes every night until they do something. If so, they’re looking for testers to side load an app to intercept data sent directly from the DS2 to DreamMapper in hopes that’ll give them some insight into the encryption.

Agree with everything in this review. Is anybody having a problem with white fibrous material discharging and accumulating in the humidifier tank? My first DS2 that I received as a replacement unit for my recalled System One was doing this. I sent it back and Philips sent me another DS2 replacement that I just received. After the third night of using this second machine there was a lot of white fibrous material floating in the tank again. It resembles the fibers in the filters. It's either the filters breaking down or the "new" foam breaking down. It is a brand new machine! It can't be good breathing these fibers in.

Have you had issues with Rainout on the new black dreamstation 2? When I had rainout on the white DS2 I could simply lift my tube and the water would fall back into the humidifier holding tank becasue the tube connection was on the top and angled, but on the black DS2 that is impossible since the tube is on the side of the machine and has no angle (guessing also cuz how far it has to travel to get to the humidifier area as you explained.
Did anyone get a heated tube to solve this issue??

Hey Gina! My wife actually turned this unit into the DME shortly after I finished this video, as she said she'd rather not have a CPAP than use this one.
She doesn't use humidity, though, so it wouldn't have been relevant. But yes, a heated hose SHOULD help a lot if you're having a that problem. Reason being, connecting a heated hose not only enables automatic humidity adjustments, but it prevents condensation.
If you have trouble finding one, a hose wrap might also work! That keeps the cooler room air from hitting the outside of the hose.

The new machine is a downgrade but at least the foam isnt under recall like the model I. I think it must have been designed to be made quickly given the massive number of replacements needed because of the recall. A stopgap design needed to fill an emergency need. And I wouldnt discount the threat of that old type of foam which was used in the DS 1 but also every other older PR machine (and ResMed). So while the new machine has fewer features (you forgot no more humidifier preheat and no more swivel hose outlet....) the new model wont cause foam related health problems like the first may. Whats that worth to a person....

I couldnt agree more with every thing you mentioned about this unit. I got this unit as my replacement for the Dreamstation and I have NOT been happy since. It is very apparent that the engineers that designed this unit have zero clue about usage. As a former sleep tech and respiratory therapist it pisses me off. My doctor has requested a different machine but like you mentioned this is all that is currently available. Luckily I work in the clinic where my doctors office is so he and I discuss my therapy pretty regularly and being a former sleep tech he knows that I want to stay on top of this. I want to 'Office Space' this machine so bad but I have to wait until something else becomes avialable and there is no telling how long that is going to be. So like it or not I am stuck with it and will use it. I wont be happy about it though. Great review by the way.

      Well...
Not to get too pedantic on you here, but my intention for my OSCAR video is to demonstrate how *I* use the software. The one thing I'm learning from this journey is that no two people are alike. What I look at in my OSCAR data is different from what I look for in my dad's data, or my next-door neighbor's.
That's one of the things I'm trying to do with this channel: underline the fact that there's no one-size-fits-all solution. What I'm hoping is that in sharing what I've learned works for me, that'll encourage people to be more mindful and experimental with their own therapy and find what works for them!
Also, keep in mind that I'm a rank newb. I've only been at this since February. So I'm gonna make mistakes. And I'm gonna make them out loud. :)
