@@bengully5076 I am in NYC area as well. I was brought up in a Muslim Family and went 2 public school all my life but was brainwashed by my Science teacher that Evolution basically disproved the Adam/Eve narratives of the Abrahamic religions so I left Islam. It was also just after 9/11 so there was very bad stigma and bullying against Muslims so that played a part as well. Alhamdulillah I was guided back 2 Islam by the All-Mighty 2 years back after a lotnof research but I will NEVER send my kids to Public School. The fitnah is getting even WORSE! I never had Transgenders and Homosexuality so prevalent in my school, in fact it was non existent then but so common now. SubhanAllah. I 100% agree with you. Public School is too much of a gamble. The problem with private Islamic School is lack of funding and not being able to get good teachers.

I'm the only Muslim in my family. I accepted Islam in 2007. My ex-wife introduced me to Islam. She did not accept it herself. As time went on she basically asked me to choose between her and Allah. After getting a divorce I got full custody of our son. He's struggling right now. He goes to a public school. This is his junior year. I blame myself for not realizing that I've been allowing his mind and heart to be poisoned. Al hamdulillah I pulled him out this year. So he's going to do Florida Virtual. As a senior in high school, I can confirm that everything this guy is saying is the truth. For years, I was under the influence of western culture, but Alhamdulillah for the hardships that I have faced the last couple of years that turned me back to Allah. It really is tough for the Muslim youth raised in American public schools to stay on their deen since they're in a constant haram environment, so please, I urge you Muslim parents to reconsider putting your kids in public schools, and may Allah guide us all. Salam.

  • @nothing-bo1oq
    @nothing-bo1oq Před 5 lety +141

I'm with you 100%, being in school amongst the non muslims is very dangerous for our deen. Even if they mean well they don't have divine revelation to base their judgement and policies on so they do whatever the moral standard fits with. So many times as kids they'll teach you things through songs and music, they don't see anything wrong with it, to them music is fine. They grow up in an environment of free mixing and get used to it. There are so many things they're exposed to, subtle or apparent, that they don't even realize are conditioning them to think and believe in certain ways. They grow up being conditioned with the values they were exposed to rather than Islam and as a result when they start learning about Islam it conflicts with the values they gained growing up so they start judging Islam based on their understanding of things rather than the other way around, I'm sure many people are aware of this. But people only seem to notice the end result and the effects but not the root cause.
This is coming from someone who, like yourself, was born and raised in America and lived through the school system from elementary to high school. Most parents like you said aren't from here they just have preconceived ideas about school and education here they don't actually know at all what happens in school and what kids are really exposed to.
Although I was born Muslim i didn't really know anything about Islam until later on, after i was out of school, and looking back i can't imagine putting myself through that environment, it's completely incompatible with an Islamic lifestyle. parents need to wake up and realize this and really work together to create a safe environment for their kids to grow up in an Islamic manner or go somewhere where they can find one. I will never send my kids to public schools here insha allah. living in the West in general has a very similar effect, i consider leaving altogether and going to a muslim country

For all those who are looking for more options there are virtual public schools that can be attended from home with only the secular education and none of the social influences. K12, connections academy, etc...do a Google search. I like your lecture but I’d like to share some stuff as a mother of three grown up kids, raising them here in the west. My children went to a public school but my husband and I made sure we always practiced what we preached. Allah swt protected our children. Having said that I’d like to share some observations as I’m very involved in the community here both the Muslim as well as the non Muslim. Most of the kids who develop doubts about Islam come from household that do not practice Islam, the parents have no idea about how things work in the west. They are not aware it takes more effort to bring up kids as practicing Muslims than back home. The parents themselves are very far from Islam , they do not feel the need to learn the Quran and Hadith, practice them and lead the kids by example. 2) the relationships between the spouses is also very important factor, we see that also missing, abusive marriages are detrimental to bringing up good Muslim kids. 3) we’ve become a la iqra people. We don’t equip ourselves with knowledge to answer basic questions. One of the reasons can be our lack of interest in “ dawah to non muslims”, children here basically ask the same questions about Islam that the non Muslims do ( both are inspired by the media). Had we learnt to answer those questions with logic for our non Muslim friends, that would’ve indirectly helped us with the kids. 4) we organize Quran Halaqa’s and educative programs for sisters, for free. There’s no prize for guessing that only a handful sisters respond. Majority are busy with recreational activities during weekends. 5) we only wake up when the cancer has reached the last stage, and now look for an instant cure.

I would'nt say most of the kids who develop doubts about Islam come from household that do not practice Islam.
Because converts come from those sort of homes. The best way to find out why Muslims doubt their faith could be obseved by looking at the stories of ex muslims and why they left their faith.
If you could find that out then by all means you could find out what really happens. This is by far one of the best ways to equip ourselves with knowledge to answer basic questions.

As someone currently in a public school, yes I can tell you it isn’t all great. While I’ve been fortunate enough not to have faced racism, being in a public school does have a bad effect on the Iman. In my case it wasn’t so much so because of what they were teaching at school, but rather what the other students were doing.
Actually, it’s onky because I hung out with, while they were good people they did bad things and were miserable (for good reason), these sort of people I actually went back to Islam because of the pain I felt.
Basically I was a lonely person who was finally invited into a friendship circle, but they almost had me do something pretty bad and something that would have led to a chain reaction of bad Deeds. I made the choice not to do it and my relationship with some of the members spiraled down so much that I eventually left out of emotional pain but was inspired to try do Salah again at that moment, which is when I started praticing Islam properly for the first time ever (before I followed bits and pieces, otherwises didn’t do all five daily prayers and such despite being born a Muslim).
Even though I was born a Muslim, I consider that I reverted back at 16 (17, turning 18 soon now). And I’ve honestly been a whole lot more forunate compared to my other brothers and sisters. Never been challanged in person for being a Muslim, fortunate and blessed to now have, although non-Muslim, very respectable friends who understand that I’m a practicing Muslim (they don’t try to persist me into doing sins).
Actually pretty sadly, I have a feeling that now I’ve decided to start speaking out more and more, the ones that are going to really be against me are my own family and extended family, despit my family being majourity Muslim. I remember trying to tell my cousin that we really shouldn’t be promoting lewd drawings and that it’s wrong, even though she’s a Muslim she simply said to stop making it a religious issue (another family member posted said picture, not said cousin).
Anyway, with Islamic schools I’ve heard it’s a good idea, but I’ve also read that there are some problems with it and that the current system might actually be promoting secularism. The Muslim Vibe did an article on it a little while ago if any of you want to take a look. I’ll edit it in when I find the link.
    Edit:

I met in Lahore Pakistan a Pakistani who returned from Germany just because he did not want his daughter to take swimming classes with boys. He told me his whole story and as per him if a person spends at least 10 years straight in western world and do nominal job and avoid all the dirty things then he or she can have enough money to go back home country and start his or her own business. Just take an example of Arab world, In Pakistan many Pakistanis criticise that arabs don't give nationality but here Aalims and Maulans defend this system and give very understandable justifications
1- In poor countires there are few to earn and many to feed in every house
2- When some person goes away from home then he sends money back to his home and this causes an improvement in overall society
3- When someone knows that he will never get nationality in the country in which he or she is working then he or she will never create assets in that country and send back all his money to his poor country
4- This scheme also provides sense to security to the national residents of the country in which he or she is working that demographics of foreign country will never change
5- In current world people have become very nationalists and this nationalism is causing disturbance and conflict among countries.
There are plenty of other reasons which everyone should keep in mind and should come back to his home country. Otherwise your children will become just like foreigners because surroundings, culture and environment is the most important factor in developing personality and perception of child towards something. Desi Dads and Moms want to live in foreign countries but want their children to have values of source or ancestors country . This is impossible.

How many sit down with their child on a weekly basis to ask about their life stress ? It's not easy being caught between two cultures as a young person and you can't turn to your parents for guidance because they might disown you or explode in anger and forever look down on you in disappointment. I understand this is not the ideal country or culture for parents but some of you are just producing children and not putting in the day to day work of raising, emotionally connecting, talking and building a close bond with your children and at an early age too, this way you might have a fighting chance !

Alhamdulilah I did the exact thing the brother said
Just wanted to make short comment
The Islamic schools have also some problems too
My kids experienced bullying and even some sexual harassment from a Muslim girl , all because the classe are small and they have girls and one few boy
My son almost fell in zinah because of mixed class
Alhamdulilah Allah saved him and us ,
I am still happy that I took them anyway
They leaned more Quran than me
Just to give people heads up
    Islamic schools are not perfect
We need to work on the tqwa of Allah تقوى الله on our kids
May Allah help us in this struggle

I'm in Canada but at least in my case the schools have been to try to not let this happen in fact my highschool has a prayer room at the quitest part of the building Allhumdullia. In middle school they didn't teach the evolution theory knowing that it goes against some students religious beliefs.
Not that this happens here, it does. Here you have to do whatever it takes to stay out of trouble to begin with, my middle school & my parents as well thought me how to do so.

    AssalamUElecum
I went to elementary, high school and college here in the USA. Back then I wasn’t religious at all. I hardly prayed either. But only thing I knew that we don’t mix up opposite gender. When I got married. With Allah’s blessings, my husband prayed regularly and he still do and when to masjid on a regularly as well. When my kids started going to Sunday school then I would say I changed a little bit. I started praying Five times. Reading Quran . Then we started halaqas and we still do that. When my kids turned seven, I made sure they know how to pray. AlhamdulilAllah since I made sure then pray five times. They go to public school. When they come home I make sure then pray and read Quran. And I before going to school in the morning, the pray Fajr. I tell them, the difference between them and us we pray and our character is the best. With blessing of Allah we took our kids this year for Umra. This is constant struggle with kids and our self. Only thing I would say educate yourself and kids with Islam education. And make dua to Allah (SWT)

Brother you are absolutely right, as there is a problem there at public school, continue to advise Muslim community studying at home because of the danger or even make the Islamic school cheaper, create jobs, find qualified teachers to teach all subjects, work hard on it. I know you are advising the danger for our kids, plsss help them, keep it up, do more that you can to preserve our kids, let the message you are conveying reach all muslim parents. I know you are doing your best, continue as its the right path to save our kids. May Allah send blessings on you. Islam is a way of living....

Salam alaikum Im convert myself. We modę to Canada from Poland. My husband is born muslim. But he doesnt practice prayer. We have three sons. Elder ones will go to 1st grade. They are going to public School. I was with non muslim in Poland and i saw what I saw. And still in Poland many things are illegal and prohibited. Its still very catholic country and I would not like to give them to public school even there. And here where drugs are so common, zina and the worst homsexualism. I am so scared. My husband wants me to work and ONE we cant afford for islamic school TWO its very far. I wanted to homeschool. I know so many parents are homeschooling and they have a great social connection, a lot of activities together, events and meetings. But my husband still wants my kids to be in public school so they have friends not just muslims. And he says they need to be with people and not closed it home. Its very sad. Me as women I cant do anything else. Me as convert I cant teach them much. I studied a lot on my own but thats never enough. Plus my kids dont have an example of practicing Muslim in my husband. Soon they will be few years older and I will not be able to take them with to masjid women section. 🙁

thanks for the truth bro. hope things get better for Muslims in America. I recently saw creepy old lady behaving crazy in the subway when she saw a Muslim woman with hijab, and she was on a crazy rant for long time. I could only imagine what that sister was going through. None in the subway reacted and said anything to the creepy old lady to stop her. I wish I could have done something to stop her.

Salam Aleykum brother Saajid, you have spoken the truth about public schools, and we as a community must find a solution to make Islamic schools affordable because the high tuition of these private Islamic schools does not make it affordable for the average Muslim (or American in general) to send their children there and at the same time put a roof over their heads and food on the table, it comes down to this simple math for many Muslims in America.
I always told myself that my kids will definitely go to a Islamic school until i found out how much it costs to send a child to the only Islamic school in my area when i started gathering information for my first born who was then around 3 years old.
So it became clear to us that only those who are well off financially can afford to pay for the high tuition at these private Islamic schools, I am making a descent salary but i cannot afford to send even one of my three children there, we are now seriously considering the homeschooling option and hoping we can make that work if my wife stays home permanently.
The point of my comment is that Muslims will not send their kids to Islamic schools if they cannot afford the tuition, we need to think about solving this obstacle otherwise there is no way for the big majority who are already struggling to pay rent and food.
If possible, let us work with state representatives to introduce legislations allowing parents to send their kids to any school of their choice and have the state pay for it as it would pay when kids go to public schools, in other words, the same expenses per child can be redirected from the public school to a private school chosen by the parents, this must be our objective if we want to see Muslim children educated in Islamic schools, A legislation of this kind works for all the parents who want to see their children going to schools that will teach them important values of their faith, therefore Muslims don't have to fight for this alone as a coalition will work for all the faiths out there. This was my two cents, and I hope we can get to the objective sooner than later. Salam Aleykum.

I went through all of this my parents are immigrants who came to London England
I wasn’t particularly bullied but because I was only one of few Muslims it was very difficult for me I would go as far as to say a humiliation for Muslim kids
Allah did rahma on me and put iman in my heart
I did make mistakes and was chastised severely but looking back I realised that the mistakes I made were because of oppression from being put amongst non Muslims
I took my children out of school and went to Lebanon to an Islamic school because I couldn’t put my children through the nightmare that I went through
When I returned to England they were home schooled and people thought I was mad but I told them that they did not know the school system like I did
I’m struggling with my youngest now but will never send my precious gift from Allah to the garbage
Inshallah he will be successful pls dua for me and all the Muslims struggling

Mashaa Allah. May Allah سبحانه وتعالي protect you and reward you with فردوس الاعلي. Very well put together, extremely beneficial and very eloquently presented. I completely agree with you as a father who had school age children going to public school and currently homeschooling as of last year. First of all I think we are treating the symptoms here not actual sickness. We shouldn’t raise our children in the land of disbelief rather we should take them to Islamic environment. That being said, I am assuming your advice is for those of us who has legitimate reason to be in a non-Muslim country. Example, reverts or those who are here and don’t have the means to leave or don’t want leave for reason or an other. Based on my experience here are some practical steps you can take to safe yourself and family.
1.change yourself before your children. Learn your Deen as you can’t give what you don’t have.
1b.Change your mindset. Your aren’t back home so change your discipline strategy. Being harsh maybe culturally acceptable but not Islamicly.
    2. Get your priorities straight. Build houses back home, being away from your family, working too many hours vs spend time with your family. Sacrifice is the name of game!
    3. Be a role model for your children and be the change you want them to be. Be God-fearing if you want them to fear Allah.
    4. Feed /shelter them Halal. Hard but is easy if want hear after.
    5. Stop the war at home. Make your home peaceful environment. No fighting/ yelling in front of children. Very important.
    6. Avoid divorce if all possible. These is a goodnesses in your Wife/husband try to find it.
    7. Be gentle and kind to each other and to your children.
    8. Befriend your children. Give them choices if possible, ask them to come up with rules and let them sign it. Make them part of the process!. Your children are Amanah that Allah entrusted you with not your property.
    9. Make a lot and a lot of Duaa
    10. Have a plan for everything. It just makes life less stressful.
    11. Take the means and put your trust in Allah.
انك لا تهدي من احببت ولكن الله يهدي من يشاء.
May Allah grant you success in this life and hereafter.
ربنا هب لنا من أزواجنا وذرياتنا قرّة اعين.

Brother, did U move 2 Florida now that you're back in the states? I'm guessing cuz u interviewed a principal of an Islamic School in one of your videos. Would u recommend any private Islamic School there? Do u think we need more Islamic teachers and should they get equal, less or higher pay than compared to their public school colleagues? I'd appreciate any responses. Looking forward to future collaborations with Daniel over at "The Muslim Skeptic".

Great video brother. Alhamdillah, I was blessed to move overseas to raise my kids in a Muslim country for work. My intention was to make them grow up in a society where they didn’t have to be ashamed of their deen. I just got back a month ago now that they are in college. My son, however is going to grade 12. If I could, I’d put him in ISLAMIC school. Unfortunately, as a now single mother, I can’t afford it. In sha Allah his fitrah is strong because I struggled to make it strong all on my own. My husband looked like you, beard and all. However, he exerted no effort to contribute to his children’s deen. My kids are in college and wallah, I struggle everyday with their deen. I can’t let my sacrifice be for naught!! Their deen is the most important thing for me. May Allah protect all our children and protect my only son forever and especially this one year in public school. Also, I’m a teacher in public schools. I’d love to work for ISLAMIC schools. However, the benefits and salary would make it very hard for me to sustain a basic lifestyle. Thank you brother!! May Allah reward you to continue your dawah.
