- Testing the Quasar Science LED Lights: Quasar Science Tubes are very popular in Hollywood movies and music videos as practicals, but I wanted to see if it would be any good as a key light?
After testing them out, I was able to get beautiful soft lighting. The CRI is 95+, which is awesome!
You can get very creative with these.
I bought the Q-LED T8 120 VAC 30 watt 5600K 4' Tube.

What was your favorite look? Softbox? Quasar Horizontal?
The one set-up before the last one is absolutely the best set-up.
yeah, I agree
The quality of light out of these is really great. Thanks for the demo Marcos! Been considering getting a bunch of these to line the upper corners of my studio. My biggest issue with them for lighting people is the distracting eye light. For lighting a space I think they are great though.
These lights make you want to try new things. Every time I am watching Netflix, I notice them in different situations.
Dude Yes! The Quasars are so dope. I want way more. The only struggle is finding the best way to mount them to a c-stand and keep the stand out of it.
Yeah, I should have angled my camera towards the left. Maybe if I put the stand directly behind me and use a matthews clamp??
Enjoying your videos, thanks mate
My favorite look was it set horizontally just above eye level in front of you (with a second light hitting the wall behind you). The last look was nice too (I think it was two of these, one to the left and one to the right...both vertically mounted). Thanks for sharing this...I researched these a few months ago. I never pulled the trigger because they didn't have a way to purchase online... You had to actually email or fax an invoice, etc. Very old school way of ordering. If they still require you to order that way I guess I should just get over it and pull the trigger. 😁
Same here with everything you said 😁 I like the horizontal look the best. Also, I didn't pull the trigger sooner because you have to email them. I had to order them from one of their distributors in San Francisco. They said they run out of these lights very quickly, so I guess that's why they don't care to make it easier to buy.
Marcos Rocha Yep...If it ain't broke don't fix it type of thing. I believe if they sold these on Amazon/took online orders their sales would be all the better, though....Maybe it is something they can't handle logistically. I've decided I will get at least one of these. For the price they seem hard to beat! Thanks, again. I am a relatively new subscriber of yours (2-3 months I think), but I am enjoying your content and looking forward to seeing it grow more. Keep up the good work!
Awesome!
I like softbox! but quasar horizontal looks good too!
I agree. I should have brought the Quasar closer to my face and dimmed it down to see more of the catch light.... NExt time.
How well do these work with a Gel? I need a few tube lights but would need to red or blue gel them to match the theme
You should check out the "Philips Astra Line Sceneswitch Plus 20-Watt LED Batten". They're incredibly cheap and have 3 settings. They're meant for home use but I bought them to set up my office/studio and they're pretty good. They're about US$17 for 2!
Zayd Yar Khan Do you have video of what the lights look like in use?
Good to know, thanks for sharing.
What microphone is that above you? Sounds perfect.
Azden SGM-1X Boom Mic
Hey Marcos what do you use to dampen echo in your studio? A video about that would be great!
Yes, I will do that.
