Super Mario Bros. Wonder is Finally Evolving 2D Mario

- Easily the highlight of the most recent Nintendo Direct for me was Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which looks like a fresh new take on 2D Mario that's finally evolving the series. So here are some of my quick thoughts on why I think it looks so good! That elephant power up alone is enough to earn my purchase.

I love that we have funny voiceovers now! This game doesn't just look funny, but actually humorous! I also love how much expression Mario's movement has. Reminds me a lot of Odyssey!
Super Mario Bros Wonder being a return for the mainline series of Mario returning to his roots is just so awesome to see!
Playable Daisy and Yoshi is completely new to the series besides Elephant Mario.

Nah, I think it’s more of a collectathon, notice the wonder seed portal and flag hole granting seed and not just traditional flagpole. It still make sense Nintendo have a 3D Mario and ‘new super Mario bros’ for switch successor. Elephant Mario seems not be designed as a progressive power up and maybe more like a level gimmick. It’s not too much about platforming and levels are way bigger and less linear looking. The stylised artstyle can also means that is not a successor to SMB and NSMB franchise. The fact that it set on flower kingdom means that it is already a entirely new thing with NPC flower.

Fun fact: This is the first Super Mario mainline game since Super Mario Bros. 3 that has “Super Mario Bros.” without the “New” before it (Unless you count Super Mario World, which is called Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan)
Weirdly, out of everything, I feel the style of this game is less reminiscent of the "New" series and more similar to Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. From the pastel color palettes and character designs to the transformations and combo meter this feels more like the Super Paper Mario of the Mario & Luigi games than anything else to me. Of course there's homage to Odyssey too with the purple coins and way the transformations are designed which is nice.
It’s a new style of 2D Mario, seperated from the classic ones and the new ones, which is linear, this is more open with wonder seed. It’s no longer linear progression with the flagpole and elephant mario is more like the 3D power up rather than 2D, wonder flower being designed for different objective, wouldn’t make sense in a single objective games.
This direct is definitely a W for Mario Fans!

i LOVE that SMB Wonder looks like a mix of both the goofy levels and multiplayer fun of 3D World, and the wacky interesting level gimmicks of 2D Mario but cranked up to the max
no blue toad though sadge. the 3D world crown is back though!!
Imagine Mario Maker 3 with all those gimmicks from Wonder.
@@5434345Yes, that would be nice. Imagine, Super Mario Bros. Wonder being one of the new extra game styles in Super Mario Maker 3, alongside the existing game styles from Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker 2. If Nintendo includes Peach and Daisy as new playable characters in Super Mario Maker 3, then their playable character assets from Super Mario Run can be reworked to fit the NSMBU gameplay style. Peach’s voice clips will probably be reused from Peachette from New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. As for the Super Mario 3D World game style, Daisy’s cat form will probably be based on the calico cats from Bowser’s Fury.
@@ZacharyNoah That's what I was predicting. With a new 2d Mario Game comes another Mario Maker Game.
Initially I felt weird about the art style but as the trailer continued I started to fall in love with it, the backgrounds look so beautiful! I'm not fully sold on the wonder gimmick yet but I'm hoping to. If the bosses are original and unique then I will be so happy :D
Art style looked awesome for sure, though yeah I would like to see some more of the "Wonder" stuff
@@mikebode7560 I get what you mean, I'm guessing its just remanence of the more modern 2D Mario look but it would have also been really cool to see the style go even further into that 2D/drawn style that it seems to have going on!
I don’t know what to feel about the fact that there seems to be a combined lives function like with 3D world because having individual lives was always good imo because it showed who was doing well and allowed for shenanigans with killing your group. Not as satisfying to throw someone into a pit of lava if it hurts everyone else as well.
this game takes place in the flower kingdom so that sounds cool

I keep rewatching the trailer and notice new animations every time. Such a nice and charming artstyle.

Game looked incredible, can’t wait to play it! I’m still playing Zelda but I so missed a good Mario. I skipped Maker 2 because I didn’t really like Maker 1, and I skipped Bowser’s Fury even if it was super interesting because it was too expensive considering I completed 3D World multiple times on WiiU. Can’t wait to play Wonder!

@@davidavila8805 I really wanted to play Bowser’s Fury but I could not justify the price just for that part of the game. Other than that Maker 2 didn’t really seem that great.
@@Eu023Mario Maker 2 is an acquired taste, but if you’re into it then it HITS THE SPOT.
With that clip of Wooly World, it reminded me that we need a port to Switch or perhaps a new game from Yoshi.

The quality is just so good it looks like an actual fangame, looks like the mario maker 2 dlc will have this as the new extra style

Just the whole feel of the level select hub screams Kirby.
my personal highlight was actually the Super Mario RPG remake because I didn‘t here the leaks and kind of lost my mind when it got revealed AHAHAHA but I‘m also very exited about Super Mario Bros Wonder and the more I look at it the more I start to like it

I would absolutely love if something similar to the challenge mode in NSMBU was there.
Honestly I'm getting the same feeling that Super Paper mario gave me and that's a good thing as it was also innovative and weird.

When i was watching thr direct I was so confused by this. The game at first looked like a 2d mario they wanted for smart phones, but changed it to be a Switch game. Im definitely interested by it though
So seeing that we'll get a new mainline Mario game by the end of this year and a new peach game next year, I guess any speculations regarding a new console are postponed until at least late 2024.
Wonder will be to 2D Mario what Odyssey was to 3D Mario.

You know what Nintendo should deliver? A new system that is up to date with tech with 2023 soon to be 2024. Get with the times Nintendo, your rehashing the same. the game seems nice, but the voice acted flowers seem really obnoxious
I would rather it use the new super mario bros art style, I get that the art style was used so much but this art style looks like crap, mario looks scruntched and weird like they just changed the height of the 3D model, also why would they theme it around elephants, oh and the princess peach game, no one will buy that. and the mario RPG Game, it just looks weird, but It makes sense since it was all, how do I say this, scrunched up?
