It matters, but not that much in this series at least in the books, the beauty of Daenerys didn't make her a good leader, in fact she has a lot of flaws as a ruler, the fifth book shows that. Yes, she's determinated and has the power to do great things, but as Tywin said Wisdom is what makes a good King, and she's not the wisest.

And see I thought that too, but look how ready we all were for Rhaenyra to burn it all at the end of Season 1 of HotD. I forgive Dany, She lost everything she ever cared about and wanted to ensure that none of her loss was in vain. but on the other hand I also understand why Jon killed her. From the outside looking in, she was an invader from strange lands, even if it was her birthright. Technically it was Aegon VI’s but he never wanted it.

I don’t know that they destroyed/ruined her character. They made her human, and humans are inherently complex, often inexplicable creatures. I liked Dany because she was a real and believable character. It would have been kinda weird if she suddenly understood and was comfortable with all the foreign and strange mechanics of manipulating established and (mostly ) functional societies. In a way, the strength she drew from her passionate love for her own people served as her downfall. She could not make herself see beyond it.

1:39 is such an awesome thing. You think she's laying siege, but the payload is designed to break into small harmless pieces, and she's simply showing them the chains of the people she's freed. One of those creative solutions I loved so much from her. Many heroes have lofty ideals about not harming innocents in their quest for power, but she's the only one I've seen who could actually afford those ideals, who had the cleverness required to pull it off for as long as she did.

But I also can't help feeling that she might indeed die as a messiah of sorts, since none the prophecies regarding her don't imply her gaining the throne. The prophecies do however say she will gain power (i.e. the dosh khaleen prophecy, prince that was promised, etc.), though. If she does end up dying as the saviour of Westeros, I will still end up liking it. :)

Svyatoslav Rurikovich True. I predict that in the final book the Others/ White Walkers will invade all of Westeros and People and houses will fight against each other any longer due to this bigger danger, due to an enemy of all mankind. I doN#t know if the Others have a leader and I don't know if they have flying creatures as well that could be a danger to the Dragons. But in the end she will save mankind from the Others. Question is though if she will die in this battle (maybe against the leader) or if she survives it and even rejects the throne saying that she does not want to be a queen. If that's the case I wonder who will take the throne. I hope a good king or queen. A Stark, Tyrion?

On The Game of Thrones-wiki, it says the collars are from the slaves she freed, so, Yunkai I guess. But watching it, I got the impression the collars came from the dead slaves nailed up along the way to Mereen, since she made such a point of "take off the collar before you bury her". It would also make more of a point to send those collars back to Mereen this way.

    • @AnnaTheFallMaiden

***** There were tens of thousands of collars in those barrels... There was a crucified slave for each mile between Meereen and Yunkai. Fewer, because Daeney's column didn't encounter the crucified slaves until they were well on their way to Meereen.
Meereen is not tens of thousands of miles away from Yunkai. So we can infer that the overwhelming majority of those collars did not come from the crucified slaves.

What many of the critics of Daenerys seem to forget is that she is a Targaryen. Yes, her lovable heroine role in the series may be overshadowed for you by her sometimes ruthless actions, but remember that her family has a history of madness. It would be totally against everything GRRM believes in if he wrote this character as something ABOVE her circumstances, as the whole point of the series is that characters have to play the hand they have been dealt, for better or worse. In my opinion, Dany is not only held back by that Targaryen blood in her that drives her to rash decisions. It is what will make her the most powerful and redeemable character in the series, not only for herself, but for her family...who were the reason for the whole Game of Thrones to begin with.

@joeyjerry1586 I found Dany really boring later in the books. Her whole plot is all just filler until she inevitably arrives at Westeros. Because of this there isn't much stakes or tension. We know she has to live. Although Victarion and Euron should make that all much more interesting too.
But Essos in general is pretty stale and not fleshed out. George just needed a training ground to stall danys arrival so all the pieces could fall in line for when she invades. Her supporting cast of characters is boring, and they don't have much personality. The antagonists are so one dimensional and cartoonishly evil with ridiculous names I can't remember. People who hate on Dany don't seem to realize that she's just a child. She's still trying to understand what it means to rule and what it means to be a queen. Astapoor, Yunkai and Mereen can be looked at as trials because she's trying to become the ruler she was destined to be. Great rulers aren't born great; they learn from their mistakes and develop over time, and this is coming from someone who's read the books and watches the series. Some people may call her parts "boring", but GRRM is a brilliant writer, and everything he writes is purposeful, so don't take any of those slow parts for granted.
