I think the name could be translated "We don't (really) know anything about (these) drugs".
The instrument is called (among other things) a talharpa / tagelharpa, or essentially "tailharp", as the strings were traditionally made from horses tail.
That (and variations of it) originate around Estonia/Sweden/Finland and date back something like a thousand years. These days more common in Finland and Estonia I believe than in Sweden.
Puuluup is a psychedelic folk duo (the guys with the folk instruments), 5miinust is a hip hop group.

I've been watching your reactions since last year, now first-time commenter (I think). I've been waiting for you to react to this song, extra credit for giving us a five-person panel this time! Love your reaction (and that you received this song so positively, as it's my #1 this year)!
The folk instrument is called hiiu kannel in Estonian, also known as talharpa, and was played (and pretty much extinct until a recent revival) in Sweden and Finland as well as by Estonian Swedes, according to Puuluup (the two guys playing this instrument).
5MIINUST ("5 Minuses", four members) are the most popular Estonian hip hop band, I hear. Puuluup ("Tree Loop", two members) play "zombie folk" (since they're playing a resurrected instrument), often with quirky audio looping, and a kind of melodramatic melancholy (that last bit is my own assessment of their musical and lyrical tone).
As for Maia's comment about the guy with no apparent stage presence (and her loving that), that is Ramo Teder who has been performing live for a long time. But it seems to be his role in Puuluup: to play the bumbling foil to his more straightforward and regal band mate, Marko Veisson, and to do the audio looping that underscores many of their songs (and can be heard throughout this song if you listen closely). Ramo's vocal style is also decidedly crooked, which I find really fun in this song and in Puuluup's work.
Edit: I also forgot to say anything about this song. I love it for its fun energy, for being a true collaboration that gives all six singers something to do, for incorporating folk instruments without them seeming tacked on as a gimmick, and for introducing me to Puuluup (opening up this treasure trove of both quirky and straightforward Estonian music with Winny Puhh, Jaan Pehk, Cätlin Mägi etc.).

there is actually 6 people on stage, 5 miinust (5 minus) is a band of originally 5 people but 1 left and now thres 4 but the 4 poeple come from 5 miinust and puuluup (the ohter 2) is a duo. Puuluup plays the talharpa and the dance is actually originated from an island in Estonia (i dont remember which one)
also fun fact the songsong now holds the official "longest Eurovision song title" honor at 50 characters, overtaking San Marino's 2012 entry "The Social Network Song (Oh Oh -- Uh - Oh Oh), which contains 44 characters.

I heard the studio version first and absolutely loved it. It is so much fun. I think the staging is a bit messy though. They did another performance where they were not running around everywhere but still did the dance and I like it way much. I see this qualifying. Not the winner but it can do way better than most people think imo.

My first reaction was it sounded chaotic.
Hearing now it sounds like a lively party song, still not that melodic but put together well enough.
It feels like they are saying they don't need drugs to have fun, just music, beer, cider, lemonade.

  • @ganapatikamesh
    @ganapatikamesh Před 2 měsíci +5

Hi Kristina! Welcome to the channel!
The first time i heard the song was just the audio and I liked it, but wasn’t really sure what I was listening to (kinda like my first reaction hearing Cha Cha Cha last year where I liked it, but wasn’t sure of the vibe of the song until I watched the music video). After watching the live performance I thought it was really neat and fascinating to see, plus the crowd is really hyped up for the song and I think that helps that they play with the crowd and keep the energy up throughout the song. And as I’m listening to it more and more I’m enjoying it. I definitely don’t skip the song when it comes on.
Oh, i understand having biases. It’s why I’m usually pretty tough on songs in English, French, or Spanish because I know those languages and so my first thoughts are “do I like this because I understand the lyrics like I would in English or is it really a good song?” So songs in English, French, or Spanish I have found I’m probably harsher in my opinions about them and often initially rank them lower than I probably would if the song was in a language I don’t speak. I mean it usually balances out by May when the shows happen, and watching the shows definitely helps, too. But yeah, I get having biases in music preferences, etc. I mean, that’s why I like Eurovision is that it’s got all kinds of music and it does make me aware of where my biases are whether that’s music genre, music style, languages, etc and helps me look at songs and artists that I wouldn’t ordinarily listen to on my own to give them a chance. And I think I’ve found quite a lot of great artists and songs over the years that I continue to follow and listen to for new music.
It wouldn’t be one of your videos if at least one of your doggos didn’t make a cameo somewhere! I love that they get to participate when they want, too!
