Here are united 2 bands: folk band PUULUUP 2 members with old folk instruments. Man with low voice is anthropologist by profession. Another band is 5MIINUST - rap band. Dance is told to be folk dance taken from Estonian islands.

PUULUUP: wikipedia says Ramo Teder is an artist and musician, Marko Veisson is an antropologist and musician. Someone from VORMSI island of Estonia says dance is Vormsi folk dance. Instrument is from HIIUMAA iseland, according to interview, in Estonian "hiiu kannel". 5MIINUST- one internet source says its hiphop band (another source told its rap band, but it was not so precise).

I would strongly recommend watching their music video as it may explain the point of their song a little bit better (czcams.com/video/ui_u0M7_hjs/video.htmlsi=4RJ6MwoG7Xyd3lJE). I think the good quality of their video actually helped a lot with votes. As an Estonian I truly hope that they use some elements from this music video in Eurovision💙

I'm from Estonia and your pronunciation of the song title is actually one of the best I've heard! The song is essentially about them denying they know anything about the drugs in question, they are in a house that is raided by the police and they are very OK with having them around. They also say the drugs are only for the rich and they only have alcohol. The message is still anti drugs, but in general for me the main point of the song is just about coming together and having fun. The song is also a really unique blend of Estonian rap and folk music. Really glad they are represeting us this year and I'm sure they will really stand out!

    • @ermin.98
      @ermin.98 Před 3 měsíci +23

as I understood it (by reading translations and the way they act with eachother on different parts of the song) it's actually a much deeper message of social inbalance cause people judge you when you look a certain way (clothes from dumpster) that you are using drugs, so if you are not rich, you prob abuse substances and they point out in the song how these substances are actually only for rich people and that these took their happines away. would love to hear your opinion on this @gerdaparkja as someone who speaks Estonian haha help me, does this what and how I understood makes sense?

Was my favorite entry :) Lyrics seem to be inspired from old popular TV documentary series where reporter and camera crew went along with police. There is a video with subtitles czcams.com/video/SXt4dl_4SbE/video.html Mentions narcotics, mentions clothes found from dumpster and other stuff also mentioned in the song :)

    • @0626love
      @0626love Před 3 měsíci +2

@@ermin.98 The title of the song, more clearly put, says "ahh, those drugs, we know nothing about drugs, what even are those" - which literally could mean "what are even drugs for", "we don't need those", "we are high without the drugs" - all this could be denying the use of drugs actually - playing the dumb about it (for police or audience), but IF you literally believe them what they say, then it could be interpreted as they are high even without the use of drugs - so it depends whether you believe them or accept the lyrics to be an irony -
some of the line in lyrics mean "its okay if police comes and raids our summerhouse", "oh, but get rid of that bag", "I can't even distinguish between vitamin and speed (amphetamine)", "I don't know any drugs, I know lemonade and cider", "button mushrooms, where is your mycelium".

5miinust (4 younger man) are famous Estonian rappers (hiphop i believe) and Puuluup (2 older man - folk music teacher and ethnologist) are ethnofolk band, also famous in Estonia and abroad.
The instruments and the special dances (=weird jumping style) are old, maybe 100 or more years and revived just nowadays. As Estonian i'm not big fan of both bands but together they created something i'd rather like :) The younger rappers put up The Show and the ethnofolk older guys gives deeper meaning (centuries backward) to the show. This anti-drug song is important to continuity of Estonian language and culture and even existence (we are small nation ~1 million only). Both bands have quite creative and vivid expressionistic Estonian language, too, which is always important part of their songs.

I am from Estonia :-) . The main message of this song is that you can have a great party without drugs. I think it's cool when older generations do it in a way that young people enjoy and totally fan.
The lyrics and content of the song are not easy to translate. The song is about the fact that even though the cottage is being raided by the police, they are wearing dresses found in the trash and there is only a green Lay’s crisp packet on the table. The folk band says that the only drugs they know are lemonades from the store and they don’t differentiate between vitamins and speed. Mushrooms are only used in the kitchen in a pan. “Five Minus” adds that only the rich can make drugs and they come from a typical Estonian country house and they don’t have money to make drugs.

The legendary dance is from there.
It is a part of the heritage culture of Vorms. The dance of the wood lube looks like the dance of a hunter or warrior before going on a hunt or war.
Vormsi is a 93 km² island in the Baltic Sea, in the territory of Lääne County. It is the fourth largest island in Estonia. According to legend, the island was named after the Icelandic Viking Orm, another version is the pirate Orm described in the legend of St. Olaf, and the third is the 13th century bishop Orm.

Not sure if has been mentioned yet, but this instrument is talharpa.
"Historically, it has been played in the Estonian-Swedish areas and in Western Estonia, particularly among Estonian Swedes who came to Estonia around the 10th century from the Swedish part of Finland; they likely brought the instrument with them (later Swedish settlers in Estonia did not know nor use the talharpa.)"
Their dance is called Veisson. It originates from Vormsi island.

Hi and thanks for the reaction to our this years song! And greetings from Estonia! :)
I see this upload is already 6 days live and you've got about 100 comments already. So, what I'm about to say is nothing new probably (didn't read the previous threads, sry).
First of all, I'm not so overly hyped by the song, but to be realistic, 5Miinust is almost the hottest band in our country atm (and has been for last few years), so their win in our NF was quite predictable (and also inevitable) imho. That's not my cup of tea of a genre at all, but I'm truly excited to see what they can achieve in the Final (and yes, we'll be in the Final, I think :D)
Second of all - my take of the title translation - "About (THESE SPECIFIC) narcotics we don't know anything (FOR SURE)". Suggesting, we know (a lot?) about different drugs, but nothing about THESE, specifically :D :D :D
Anyways, very happy to see mostly positive feedback to our song in YT and we (Estonians are so eager to do this, actually :D) are glad to answer your questions and give further explanations about the song ;)

I really love the song, it's better to listen to it with the studio version on spotify, but the live staging is something else. The language is so good, they're dance is incredible, they are all interacting and doning the dance at the same time and it looks so funny. The Talharpha talharphing sometimes also sounds so good, I love this Instrument which is about 1000 years old and is from Sweden, typical Instrument in Estonia. They're voices are also incredible, just as the Mood in the stadion. But the best is the interaction, in the dance, in the singing, it's incredible. Every one of them has something to sing, the start is made by Päevakoer, he is the younger guy with short brown hairs, his hairstyle is very similar to Lancelot, Ramo, the older man is just singing something in the background. After the first Talharpha Part, Kohver, with the long hair, is starting with the Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuu yeeeeeeeeeeeeee and then goes on singing always alternating with Marko, the guy that looks like VSauce. One of Kohvers Parts is taken over by Korea, the guy with the Bald. And also Lancelot, the younger guy with blond hair is singing a part with Ramo in background. All that, 6 different Voices, 6 man all doing the same dance, a really good Estonian language and such a cool Instrument is making an amazing Mood. This is the bset I've ever heard and seen, love you Estonian guys, you are definitly my winners this year!

    Lyrics
We (really) don't know anything about (these) drugs
We're no druggos we haven't done anything
The dresses we wear are from a trash can
"Police Chroncile" and there's raid in our cottage
The only bag on our table is green Lay's
We're no druggos we haven't done anything
The dresses we wear are from a trash can
"Police Chroncile" and there's raid in our cottage
Men in uniforms are visiting I'm totally fine
    (Uhh yeah)
    Listen to that now
    We'll get it going
    You'll hear us tonight
    But take that bag away
I don't know drugs I know soda and cider
I wouldn't tell the difference between vitamin and speed
    Listen to that now
    We'll get it going
    You'll hear us tonight
    But take that bag away
Russulas and champignons - where are your filaments
You startle my body like a kitchen stove
Ducklings are small, but poppies are so tall
We avoid drugs, let's leave that for the rich
Here early in the morning and crow like roosters
These sad-looking girls took my candies away
We avoid drugs just because we're not rich
In the backroom of our farm there are only IPAs on the table
Sunglasses to hide the pupils… oh no yeah just for fun
Seeing through everything, those who are in the front row
Shut up and I haven't done it
Although the dance has been going only around me here yea
Shut up and I haven't seen anything
Although the dance has been going only around me here yea
    Listen to that now
    We'll get it going
    You'll hear us tonight
    But take that bag away
I don't know drugs I know soda and cider
I wouldn't tell the difference between vitamin and speed
    Listen to that now
    We'll get it going

the only bag on the table is green Lay's
We are not drug addicts, we have not done anything
Dresses on our backs are bin finds
Police chronicles and there is a raid at the cottage
Men in shape visiting I'm very okay
    (Ūū jeā)
    Take a listen to this
    Might go snore off
    We are being heard today
    Take that bag away tho
I dont know about drugs i know lemonade and cider
I couldn't differentiate the vitamins, shine
    Take a listen to this
    Might go snore off
    We are being heard today
    Take that bag away tho
Birch leaves and champignons - where are your nets?
You start my body like a kitchen stove.
Ducks are short and poppies so long
Avoiding the pleasures to be sniffed by the rich.
Up early in the morning and spots like a rooster
The conchs took away those skulls with sad hymns
We avoid enjoyment because we are not rich
There are so many IPA's on the table in the basement of the house
Glasses and a pupil.. well because of the bull why not (as a joke)
Those who made it to the front rows see through
Shut up and I haven't done anything
I wish this dance has been around me yeah
Shut up and I haven't done anything
I wish this dance has been around me yeah

that istrument is actually an old one like really old it's called hiiu kannel if ur Estonian like me you'll know what a kannel looks like and that doesn't look like one at all, also the name is really different from what it is like I said kannel is a completely different instrument, the name has Hiiu in it, many think it's from Hiiumaa then but actually it's from Vormsi (I know all this because we learnedd this in music school a few years ago and it's just stuck in my head)

You probably need the whole translation of the song, then you would understand it.. :D Estonians love it, but im bit afraid that foreigners dont get it and dont have so much fun with it.. :D

A ver si nos lo aclara bien algún estonio, pero creo que sí que son instrumentos típicos por lo que he leido por ahí. Creo que son dos grupos que se han juntado.

it translated yet wrong its we dont know anything about the drugs and the pronounciation was soo good. also the instrument is hiiu kannel or rootsi(sweden) kannel and they sing about drugs green lays chips trashbag dresses and police raids at their summer home. also the young people love 5miinust a rap band and yeah but i dont really like them but i like the older 2 guys playing the instrument Puuluup and i love them because i dance folk and they mainly do folk songs.

Estonians keep totally misunderstanding which songs are right for Eurovision. At least this time the public chose a song in estonian, which is a plus at least. The song itself is fine, but it's not going to get any votes.

I’m from Estonia and I don’t really like that song, like it doesn’t sound good enough for Eurovision in my opinion. Plus points for the Estonian folk instruments.
