Love your 'common-man' reviews. Most of the channels now take 1440p/4K and newest GPUs as the top priorities, but for a good chunk of crowd out there still holding onto their 1070s, 1060s and 580s/570s, you provide highly relatable benchmarks.
1080p is still the most common gaming resolution on Steam, and lots of cards from 4, 5, even 6,or 7 years ago are still perfectly viable for that. That's partly b/c of the pandemic and associated supply chain disruptions as well as the mining craze that both disrupted the adaptation of newer cards but also slowed the pace of technological progress down a bit. Plus, while it will be increasingly important for the future, right now hardware based real time ray-tracing isn't really very common in games and certainly isn't as viable on many of the newer cards( you really have to go expensive to get good performance with that enabled) as the industry pretends. Lastly , there's the 'upscaling' technologies from both NVIDIA and AMD that help extend the lives of some pretty darn old cards even farther.
i'll be honest, id rather the 6600xt become the new standard for entry level / essentially its a 1080/vega 64 now can it get to below 200 dollars like these cards were selling at 150 late in the game??? idk...
yeah I pretty much lsiten to zWormz for this reason, he is really very very good, him and Dawid. I like both those guys very much, these is three favourite channels of mine for older graphics hardware, I sometimes like Linus for making old rig enthusiasm stuff like classic PC components in mineral oil or heating his garage with mining, but he is often basically like salesman who shows off newest shiniest tech and he clearly used to playing with most top of the line stuff so much so he can simply drop Epyc processors like my next month salary is nothing to him. Meanwhile other channels are great for the everyman gamer. I think, they many time don't seem to understand or remember not everybody is USA/maplesyrupUSA/teandcrumpetsphere. Which is why I liek Jayztwocents, because, he listens and cares to the concerns of the everyman gamer and that not everybody is some rich "consultant" or "legitimate businessman" on the USA and there are people in other countries who watch these channels. So, it is very convenient to them.
@@drek9k2 I still like the lowspecgamer, but he changed his content to mostly history at this point. Still, plenty of good ideas and videos showing not only how but WHAT you can do on old hardware.
The rx580 is a beast of a card and has aged like fine wine. I bought mine in 2018 and it’s still rocking in 2023. Gives me solid FPS in wildlands, breakpoint rdr2. Considering the gpu prices these days. I am still using it and satisfied with its performance. Perfect card for 1080p gaming back then and still rocking especially the 8gb one.
Time and time again, we just can't get rid of these legends. Every time 580s and 570s become the best value again, I think about 2kliksphilip's videos on the $200 hero cards, and realize that this kind of card just isn't coming back with the death of moore's law. We have entered the GPU malaise era.
I mean in fairness and all honesty the 5700XT can be had now for $200 and that like the 1080ti remains a gold standard for gaming and can still make demanding games play at ultra settings 1440p and get at least over 30fps, which makes it still a perfect 1080p gaming card for literally all games. Which the RX 580 and GTX 980 or 1060 or 1650S is still a classic gold standard for intro to 1080p for the same reasons, basically it's get a 580 or 1060 if you want to game at 1060 30fps very high, and get a 1080ti or 5700XT if you want to game at 60fps all ultra. I do believe that basically the 2080ti is going to be called as the standard level performance for 1440p, much the way 3070 got 4k tier performance on release despite being crippled into being basically a 1080p raytracing card, which is sad because were it not for VRAM and had 12-16gb the 3070 or 3070ti would be a gold standard for 1440p. Also this is all nVidia's fault, literally. It still would be and SHOULD be $230 is the entrance fee, and it's only their scumfuckery that's been pushing the price so sky high a 60 level performing card is being priced as a 80 card and called a "70" card. Much the way the whole market's been fucked though I don't let AMD off the hook, those fuckers basically released a 7800XT for $900 and rebranded it as "7900XT" then pretended like they were not releasing a 4090 competitor, because basically their TDP was shit and they didn't want to be a pathetic meme like nVidia with their card literally bursting into flame and burning your house down because they knew that tards always would buy nVidia's halo bullshittery no matter what and so it was sorta pointless, also because they couldn't justify the price so easily, but yes the 7800XT basically just got rebranded as a 7900XT and price gouged tf out of us for turning a $650 card into a $900 card because nVidia's sleeze made it stupid for a heartless corpo to not price gouge their card also. What really they should have done is called it what it is, a 7800XT, and just priced it at $700 and they would've slaughtered nVidia. I think fanboys are pretty dumb, but they're not THAT dumb they wouldn't switch brands and dump the 4080 like a hot sack of shit and jump on the 7800XT. Maybe they got really dispirited and demoralized by RDNA2 not selling like it should have, given RDNA2 was the first generation in a decade where AMD cards were literally superior to nVidia cards across the entire stack.
@@drek9k2 Fuck Nvidia for continuing to push the industry forward amirite? You'd think if you were someone who watches this channel you'd realize you don't need to be breaking the bank to get good performance at higher resolutions anyway.
RX 580 8gb's would be around 280 bucks in todays money, which is what Radeon RX 6600 is currently going for. And we had other cards, which did actully offer better value for money, than RX 580. Though priced higher.
I have an RX 590 in my Ryzen 5600X system and it runs very well. AMD is keeping drivers updated. I think the 580 8GB or 590 are still great choices for affordable 1080p systems.
This was the gpu I picked out for my uncle in 2019 he is still very happy with it, beforehand he bought a gt610 not knowing it wasn't a gaming gpu, he would get 1 frame per week 😂😂. As soon as he put the rx in he was astounded at what video games looked and played like.
This card was probably one of the best purchases I made before the crypto-craziness + covid exploded. I bought the XFX GTS model (NEW) and still rocking just fine. Now it's almost impossible to find the original 580 new, but I guess the cut-down version of it being sold nowadays is also fine, considering it's going for around 80 bucks or so.
Right there with you, I bought an ex-mining Sapphire RX 580 8GB Nitro+ for $116 USD in October 2019 and then spent the next couple of years feeling like a GPU clairvoyant. 😂
Man you really do have good tastes, I’ve left previous comments on your videos about the RX580 and I had this exact one! It was an awesome card that has been in 4-5 of my friend groups PCs and lives in my friends system paired with an R5 3600. He plays modern titles on 1080 at mostly medium stuff and has been super happy with it.
I just upgraded to the R5 3600, was running the RX580 8gb on a A10 7890k, which ran well until recently. The pairing is night and day with the R5. the A10 will become my new NAS
I'm using a 580 right now and I adore this thing! In the lead up to Half-Life: Alyx I needed to upgrade on a budget, and took a chance on an eBay listing that may or may not have been an ex-mining card. For ~$140, at a time when most of them were substantially more expensive, I got an 8GB Sapphire Nitro+ variant that ran the game well enough for me to thoroughly enjoy the experience. Paired with a secondhand Xeon E3-1275L v3, it's not up to the demand of the best looking modern titles, but I play mostly older stuff (e.g. Quake at 1440p by way of Ironwail), or newer games at lower settings, combined with a bit of video editing in Resolve, all of which the card handles comfortably. I'm thrilled with what I got for my money; well done AMD!
The Sapphire Nitro lineup are always going to have a price premium, a much better quality build, better cooler and generally a slightly better performing GPU than the equivalent model from another manufacturer 💪🥰.
@@michaelthompson9798 Definitely! My previous experience with an RX 460 from them was a big reason the card was so appealing. Knowing how nice the cooling was, both in terms of performance and noise levels/timbre, made me jump at the chance. This 580 has served me well for more than 3 years so far, and I'll happily consider Sapphire first the next time I need a GPU.
@@Loundsify Pardon the self promotion, but I have a video series on my channel showcasing my first playthrough, if you want to see what sort of framerate I was dealing with; I don't remember exact numbers, but I had a mostly comfortable experience. As I recall I had most of the quality settings turned down except for textures (the main reason I went for an 8GB model instead of e.g. a 6GB 1060). There's noticeable slowdown in a couple spots, namely the late game trainyard fight with all the antlions, but most of that is the fault of recording video at the same time. Trying those areas again without any video encoding showed an improvement, if I remember correctly. I was playing with a Dell Visor WMR headset, and the resolution was quite low most of the time, so it certainly wasn't a premium experience, but it was playable and bang for my buck was through the roof. I still loved HL:A, and all the lower-end compromises I had to deal with to run it almost immediately faded into the background and let me get totally absorbed in the game.
This card aged so well and you can pick up a used one for less than $100. This thing's insane. EDIT: I also noticed you referred to Cyberpunk 2077 as Cyberpunk 2023 in the description, idk if that's intentional or not
be warned for anyone looking to buy one, make sure your getting the 8gb variant, theres a 4gb vram model that was around too, super common in prebult pcs, had one in my pc 5 years ago and it performs way worse due to the lesser vram, and wont last much in todays games, so just be sure if you get one its the 8gb model if possible and if not stated then check to see if it was from a prebuilt, if so then its probably the 4gb variant, also the rx5700 xt is another great option if prices are good in your region
I'm glad you finally decided to show this card some love. I've been using the RX480 8GB version since launch and it's still fantastic for 1080p. Back then it was trading blows with 1060/6 for sure, but the VRAM was a deciding factor for me along with AMD's trend to have "fine wine" GPUs. Vulkan was also giving this card a big boost over the 1060, though maybe it's different nowadays. The card allowed me to set high textures in games even if I had to lower some other settings. They are available for a pittance right now, but running them in Crossfire isn't gonna help you at all.
The gap between 480 and 1060 just got wider and wider over the years, as AMD put out better drivers. These days, the 1060 is trading blows with a 470. 480 is out of it's league. :)
I think the VRAM is more of a problem. I have 10 GB VRAM and I'm still quaking in my boots when I read system requirements on new games. Texture quality (for me) is more important than any other visual quality settings, lighting, shadows, all that. I can't use highest quality texture settings, even on games like RE4 remake.
I have the 4gb model, bought it 2nd hand over 3 years ago. Pretty happy with it and now I've undervolted it it's even better with less powerconsumption, less heat and same performance.
This is exactly why my wifes ancient R9 390 8GB is still trucking 8 years later, as it has nearly the same performance as the RX 580. I would be interested to see how much more performance you could get doing the same tests using AtlasOS (legal stripped down Windows 10 for gaming). Though I'm aware how much effort that would be.
I used a 4GB 580 until early last year, then moved to a 1070 Amp Extreme I got for cheap. Both are incredible and also really cheap, even for my Brazilian standards.
I picked up this card just before the great GPU scalpage as I knew the prices of anything including the 580 itself would get insane and hands down it was a beast for what I needed at the time. (Given my prior card was a GTX 950 and my PC was getting old at the time, it was a beast with every game I threw at it at the time). I've retired it to its box for now in as I rebuilt my PC but I am definitely not getting rid of it.
I've been running an RX 480 8GB in my system for years at this point and I don't think I'm going to upgrade any time soon. The card holds up really well in 2023, I don't really play that much demanding games so I think I'll keep it until it dies. Really good card.
My sister bought Hogwarts Legacy not realizing that her laptop had no shot in running it. I gave her an old z420 workstation and she bought a 580 8gb for $75. Now with Steam Big Picture shes gaming at medium settings 60fps on her couch.
The RX 480/580 were definitely the best bang for the money for almost 6 years, my RX 480 saved me from the chip shortage/crypto mining craze, I will never forget Polaris and the value it brought to all gamers who bought them. Too bad people just blindly buy nvidia all the time even nowadays when AMD offers good value even today with the 6000 series.
Same dude, I recently upgraded after 6-7 years since my rx480 held out for so long. It was my first rig and it played everything I ever needed it to run just fine at 1080p. I’m struggling to get rid of it just out of sentiment and respect lol.
@@flamealchemist546 Lol don't get rid of it, throw it in another rig with some older components. They're so cheap and "obsolete" now after the cryptocraze that you won't be able to sell it for much, imo is not worth it and you never know when it might come in handy.
@@AJ-po6up Yeah, I'm not strapped for cash so it's kinda sitting around. I upgraded to a rtx 3070 ti, but I agree with the second part of your first comment, and to be frank I don't think I'll ever buy Nvidia again. I love my new rig and I get that they're the top dog and will probs stay that way, but a lot of their recent business practices have left a sour taste in my mouth. AMD isn't much better, but they're at least somewhat willing to provide people with some value, given my experience with my rx480.
Oh friend, you are so on point with RX 580 - one of the best GPUs still, specially for a low cost rig, as you mentioned. I used to have 2 rigs back in the days, one with 1060 and the other with RX 580, and they both are still alive and kicking in gaming as far as I know :)
I miss my RX 580. Was such an amazing card for $100. Had it paired with an i7-2600K, then later a Ryzen 5 2600. Finally upgraded to a 3060 Ti when I got my Ryzen 5 5600. But this card will always hold a special place in my heart, it finally allowed me to play newer games on a PC built in 2011-12 (which originally had a 2.5GB GTX 570 paired with the aforementioned i7)
@@PAA1433 I got really, really lucky and right before they jumped to those prices I got mine for the aforementioned $100 used from a guy locally. He was asking $120, I picked it up from his house so he knocked off $20 and it worked great from that point (June 2020) all the way till about June/July 2022 when I got my 3060 Ti for $340 new/open box (also from a local seller). RX 580 was the 8GB Sapphire Pulse model (best one imo outside of the Nitro/Nitro+ or ROG Strix versions) and my 3060 Ti is a Zotac Twin Edge OC model (GDDR6, not GDDR6X) with LHR - which I don't mind since it's never gonna be used for mining crypto. Even if it was, there are ways to hack the VBIOS and unlock the full hash rate if I recall
Nice, that GPU is certainly doing well, and you didn't need to use the low settings at all on any of those games :) Personally, my train of thought is to get the game looking as nice as possible whilst still retaining an average of at least 60fps (or as close to 60fps as possible). If you've got the hardware to use higher settings then you might as well take advantage of it!
For single player games, I'm usually happy with 45, or even 30 FPS if I love the game enough. To me, 60FPS is only a minimum for really hard single player games (Without difficulty settings for instance) or multiplayer games. But then, my first PC was an XT, and my first real gaming PC was a 386 based system which I had playing the original DOOM (admittedly it was the 40mhz AMD chip inside so performed better than most 386 systems). Coming from my first video game console being the venerable Atari 2600 maybe I just have different standards.
Yeah, as you say, it all depends on the game and what you're happy with, although usually, 60fps is considered to be a good target for smooth gameplay. My first experience with PC gaming was on a HP Pavilion with integrated graphics, and I struggled to get more than 20FPS out of F1 2012, and 15FPS out of F1 2015.
It's been a year, but I like that you adjust the setting to get at least 60 FPS. Other channel would torture old VGA with max setting. It's supposed to be performance>graphics.
My brother has my old MSI Armor RX 580 8gb in his system and it still runs every game he’s tried perfectly well - usually on medium with TAA (where available) in most games - and luckily it’s been one of the few Armor editions with no coil whine, even after 6 years of abuse 🤙🏼
I have 12 of these cards I am refurbishing and putting on eBay. Yes, they were used for mining so the thermal pads/paste need refreshing, and some need cleaning because of the fans leaving the black substance they tend to leave after thousands of hours running but the XFX, MSI, and Powercolor versions of these are built very well.
I bought a RX470 8GB Mining card for 60€ a few days ago to upgrade my nieces rig, and it works incredibly good. AMD had some really good stuff with with the GCN 4.0 architecture and it was never valued enough in my opinion cause Pascal stood out too much. The 8GB VRAM will give it a few more years to live as used lower entry card even with the nex gen games if you think about the recent VRAM monsters that came out and will come out in the future.
Sapphire Pulse RX 590 in my system and it's fine for older games but I'm seeing a lot of titles that won't work with this card. You showed Hogwarts and there was a really bad water artifact problem in that. I don't think it was ever fixed. It was an issue with all Polaris cards. If older titles or pretty much any MMO is your game fix, 580 (590 as it's just a glorified 580) will do great for a few more years
If you look at the benchmarks. Majority of the games used less than 4gb vram. So I'm guessing it won't be that different for many of the games. Only for those released this year and onwards. Where they're trying to push the system requirements to unreasonable specs. I'm guessing newer GPUs aren't selling well and they have to force people somehow. Because if you look at newer games they don't look that good compared to some games released 10 years ago to justify the requirements.
Old but gold me i use that gpu 7 years and still work in 2023 i change it to RTX 3060 TI but for a 350 euro for that thime and work in so many games i can say was and still will be in my heart a beast that gpu by the way was Asus AMD RX 580 8GB OC EDITION
I have an old 15 2500 that still generally performs really well, its been teamed up with a GT 640 since i bought it, i think back in 2007/8 maybe. Ive wanted to use it as like a media/light gaming pc for a while now, just switch out the old mechanical for an SSD and thanks to this video, seems like ive found the perfect card perhaps ... Cheers!
I have a Sapphire Nitro special edition RX580 8GB that has been with me since 2018, still today, as you managed to demonstrate, it is a gpu that deserves to be used even in 2023!
Yes, what a Card! I held on to it until 2024, now switching to a rx7700 that i got for around 200€. Just after i ordered the new card, I realized you could use fsr3.0 frame Generation with the rx580. This is absolutely huge for all that still plan to use it for some time.
I think that the 5700xt could be the new 580. I picked one up used for $150 and it’s a big upgrade in performance and holds its own with the 2070 super and 3060
The 580 was the first brand new GPU I ever purchased for cyberpunk back in 2020. I sold it over covid for around $400 but now I'm about to buy another one for homelab usage haha
The RX 580 is probably one of the most emblematic GPUS of modern gaming, in my personal opinion more than the GTX 1060. at this point RX 580 should be a standard for what an economic mid end gaming GPU should be, cheap, powerful and reliable.
Don't forget, you could get it (8gb version) for about 120-30$ only a few months *lets say a year* after the release date.. thats how prices went down back then, now 3yrs old cards are still above the already blown up msrp
I bought my 580 in 2017 just as that minning boom was taking off. Can't believe it's survived 2 minning booms. It even spent about half it's life minning in my system when I wasn't gaming.
I have an RX 570 4GB that I got back in late 2018 for $160 CAD new, but I did upgrade recently due to issues with running out of VRAM. If I had spent a little more and gotten an RX 580 8GB, then I'd definitely still be using it for sure. My 570 was super solid when VRAM wasn't an issue.
i grabbed one for exactly $100. Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB variant. Just be careful when buying them, a big % of them have mined but that only just ruins the fans most of the time. I got mine in perfect condition except the fans, they were squeeking. I replaced them for $10 pair of new ones.
Built a new rig and gave my nephew my old one with 3700x and rx580 8gb. He loves it and will never go back to consoles. This card is still out there saving lives. PCMR
Running mostly the same spec apart from the ram, did a platform upgrade from an FX 6350 last year to a 12400, b660, 16gb 3200mhz ram and kept the RX580 due to the insane value it continues to offer. I picked mine up for £115 refurbished just before GPU prices went ballistic...so in that time its lost what...£30-40 of value. I am overdue a GPU upgrade which I would of done but I'm also due a monitor upgrade, so to me there's no point upgrading until I've got a monitor that can actually display the extra performance I would get. Ideally buying both at the same time.
Good to know this card is still kicking around and doing a good job. Sadly I doubt they will make cards this good anymore as they want to keep people still buying new cards every few years.
Your down to earth style and what you review is very relatable... I'm new to PC building and your channel is a breath of fresh air... got a sub all the way from South Africa 🙏🏽🙂
I've recently upgraded my build from a i5 3330 + gt 1030 to a xeon e3 1270 v2 + rx 580 2048sp and let me tell you how great that gpu is. I can play most games at 1080p 60 using high settings and even put some older titles at 1440p and 4k resolutions to remove those jagged edges (i hate using taa). Right now i'm planning in getting a new xeon kit from aliexpress because i'm having some cpu bottleneck in most recent games (can't play elden ring at 60fps no matter the resolution and settings lol).
I got an RX 480 8gig. Had it for 7 years now. Basically the same card, just slightly less refined iteration of Polaris. Still holds up great in new games, if you don't go over 1080p. For a 7 year old piece of PC tech, the thing is insanely good.
I have a 4GB Sapphire pulse RX580 tried it to media rig, never had any problems with drivers and very surprised by it's power. Purchased as off work after a car crash my GPU died had a budget of £200 &, this was only thing in my budget. It was surprisingly good wiped GPU drivers install card then Radeon driver and 1080p TV played games fine no fiderling to get a great picture and played back video perfectly a true all rounder. If AMD want to gain market 7400,7500&7600 need to priced at 150 200 250 for base 8GB models add a bit more Ram for an extra 50 like they did with RX580
I had an rx 480 up until November (which is essentially what a 580 is). That card carried me through the scalpocalypse. These are still great cards for budget 1080p gaming. You can put together a $600 gaming pc easily with these things.
Oh yes, I definitely remember the "video cardmageddon" of '21. I have an XFX GTS Black RX 580, but I was using the Zotac GTX 1660 Super more, which definitely saved my sanity through '21! I got the GTX 1660 Super in 2020 and the RX 580 in 2019.
Still rocking my Sapphire RX 580 8GB Nitro. Love this card. Bought mine from an ex-miner after the 2018 crypto-bubble burst. He only mined on it for 8 months, and I confirmed from the serial number date on the card, and shipping tag on the box. Only paid $120 for mine back then. A steal.
I have a Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ 8GB which is basically a reference RX 580 8GB in terms of clock speed. I also got a 1440p165hz monitor a year ago. While I'm not playing many new games I do play Warzone 2.0 and my solution to get decent performance is to set all the graphics as low as they'll go in the config file and using FSR 2.1 Balanced for a consistent 60+fps.
Wow, the 580 is still kickin'. Didn't expect it to be this good especially in newer games. This makes me wanna build a cheaper system with one of these just for grins.
Quite literally just built my first PC from scratch, with an RX 580 8GB, Ryzen 5 3600, and 16 GB RAM. Already very satisfied with it, now just need to buy games to show it off.
I bought the sapphire nitro+ rx580se card for 300$ back in early 2018 during the mining crisis. It was a huge luck that i got this brand new inbox for 300$ when these cards were going for 1000$ in India. I bios moded the card to run at 1500mhz core and left the ram at 2100mhz. The factory oc was aggressive enough but i did more oc anyways. Removed the power limit and it runs at 150-170w in gaming and 220w+ in furmark. Your card is running at lot less power. So i expect my card to perform 10-15% faster. My main bottleneck is the horrible single core performance of the r7 1700 cpu i got. I will be upgrading the cpu to 5700x and gpu 6700xt this year.
I have one of these, and it still plays the games I like to play. And since my favourite game is like 10 years old (final fantasy 14) it runs at like 150fps most of the time other than when there’s like 100 people on screen.
i bought the ASRock RX 580 8GB OC in 2018 for $220.49... and oh boy. the card under preformed terribly no matter what i did from bios upgrades/downgrades, undervolting... memory testing, disabling c support features, heck you name it i probably tried it and from what i had done, you'd think it'd be smooth like butter. no matter what i just couldn't get it to stabilize in games regardless of the frames, constant stutters and skips. i gave up and contacted Asrock and when i did, they told me i should just take my PC to a dealer near me. after that i told myself I'd never buy an AMD card again let alone an Asrock card. anyway, I'm glad you're having a good experience with it. i don't doubt there are some decent 580s out there. i can almost feel the excitement i once had hearing you talk about it.
In last 5 years I owned two of these. I had one from XFX and one from MSI. They did perform very well for 1080p and I was very happy with them until I upgraded my system. 🙂
I've got a gaming laptop with an i7 7700HQ and RX 580 8gb in it that I still use a lot for gaming on the go when I'm away from home. Most of the older games I play run well and look great. Currently replaying Prey 2017 with no complaints about the visuals and performance.
I'm still on 1080p with an RX580 8GB and an old 8320 CPU. It plays everything I want to absolutely fine, I'm not fussed for playing AAA titles on launch and am more than happy to wait until the bugs etc have been ironed out. The 580 is a true budget hero and I'm not sure we'll see that kind of price/performance/longevity ever again.
one of my favorite graphics cards can't believe you did a review of it I recently played final fantasy vii remake on high settings 1080p 60fps with a couple settings tweaked obviously & dips in the mid/low 50s on my rx580 you really get bang for your buck
I had my 580 for 4 years. Honestly, I somewhat regret selling it and not keeping because it was working like a charm and, as you've said it, the best value for money gamers can buy even today. It is a masterpiece !
I bought this card based on 1 of your reviews and comparisons. IT was/is great. Enough so that i moved up to the rx 5700xt and then rx 6700xt but have somehow found myself right back at nvidia with a 3080 ti, which I did not pay for all of it or even half due to the trendy brother that just has to have the latest and greatest so his 4090 purchase netted me the 3080ti. I love the amd cards and performance. Admittedly all cards have hiccups here and there but amd had the most driver issues I had ever dealt with but that may just be because I used amd from the r9 290 up to the 6700. Anyhow great content, ty again. See if you can get hold of a maxwell titan x 2016 and do a relevancy review of it in the 12gb world. My son is begging as that is what is still in his tired rig full of my leftovers.
Thx for giving my old GPU a thumbs up in 2023. 🙂 I think the RX5500 would be a nice comparison, both the 4GB and the 8GB version. The only problem is that they cost more. AFox even still sells them new.
I just recently built a modest computer with the RX 580 (actually, the 2048sp version). Paired with a Xeon e5 2640 v4 (X99 mb) and 32Gb of ddr4 ram, the thing is an absolute beast, and I'm playing Cyberpunk in it without any issues! Best bang for the buck! Whole system was €260, but of course, it was all from Aliexpress.
Do you care I have a 4090
i'll be honest, id rather the 6600xt become the new standard for entry level / essentially its a 1080/vega 64 now can it get to below 200 dollars like these cards were selling at 150 late in the game??? idk...
yeah I pretty much lsiten to zWormz for this reason, he is really very very good, him and Dawid.

We have entered the GPU malaise era.
yeah love that video haha
It does help that ebay is littered with them.

Accurate
Depends really, but it'll get destroyed by 2024's year of games
This card was probably one of the best purchases I made before the crypto-craziness + covid exploded. I bought the XFX GTS model (NEW) and still rocking just fine. Now it's almost impossible to find the original 580 new, but I guess the cut-down version of it being sold nowadays is also fine, considering it's going for around 80 bucks or so.
Yeah the cut down card is still great as well. Really like the xfx models :)
I have one of those for 5 years now. Still going strong.
Right there with you, I bought an ex-mining Sapphire RX 580 8GB Nitro+ for $116 USD in October 2019 and then spent the next couple of years feeling like a GPU clairvoyant. 😂

@Fox Boi
Same. I'll keep my beauty until she passes, which I hope won't be anytime soon.
How well does it play half life Alyx? And what headset do you use? My RX 470 couldn't power HLA on a Quest 2. I upgraded to a 3060ti in 2021.
Better upgrade that RX 580 now

be warned for anyone looking to buy one, make sure your getting the 8gb variant, theres a 4gb vram model that was around too, super common in prebult pcs, had one in my pc 5 years ago and it performs way worse due to the lesser vram, and wont last much in todays games, so just be sure if you get one its the 8gb model if possible and if not stated then check to see if it was from a prebuilt, if so then its probably the 4gb variant, also the rx5700 xt is another great option if prices are good in your region
Also there are cut down ones coming out of China which have 2048sp's, similar to Rx 570's
I'd upgrade the gpu though, my Rx 580 is already showing it's age
The card is really pretty good and has lasted quite long but I do think that going forward the 580 will start to struggle due to Its lower horse power
Also due to the newer games are optimized pretty badly

@@Vfl666 that game sucks
I think the VRAM is more of a problem. I have 10 GB VRAM and I'm still quaking in my boots when I read system requirements on new games. Texture quality (for me) is more important than any other visual quality settings, lighting, shadows, all that.
I can't use highest quality texture settings, even on games like RE4 remake.

Nice, that GPU is certainly doing well, and you didn't need to use the low settings at all on any of those games :)
Personally, my train of thought is to get the game looking as nice as possible whilst still retaining an average of at least 60fps (or as close to 60fps as possible).
Now these on my market used for 65$.

Mining cards won't last long, sadly all 2nd handed mid range gpus are probably like that.
Sapphire Pulse RX 590 in my system and it's fine for older games but I'm seeing a lot of titles that won't work with this card. You showed Hogwarts and there was a really bad water artifact problem in that. I don't think it was ever fixed. It was an issue with all Polaris cards. If older titles or pretty much any MMO is your game fix, 580 (590 as it's just a glorified 580) will do great for a few more years
590 is two cards in one, if I remember correctly
Nevermind, for some reason I thought you mentioned GTX 590, that card was state of the art, 2 gpus in one
8gb of VRAM really did help it out as well.
yeah definitely. It'll really help it this year too I think
Currently have an XFX 580 8gb in my system and it pretty much plays whatever I want. Legendary card.
I'd definitely like to see what the 4gb version can do
If you look at the benchmarks. Majority of the games used less than 4gb vram. So I'm guessing it won't be that different for many of the games. Only for those released this year and onwards. Where they're trying to push the system requirements to unreasonable specs. I'm guessing newer GPUs aren't selling well and they have to force people somehow.
Because if you look at newer games they don't look that good compared to some games released 10 years ago to justify the requirements.

at this point RX 580 should be a standard for what an economic mid end gaming GPU should be, cheap, powerful and reliable.
Well clearly you're wrong as the 1060 has sold considerably more than the 480/580 since 2016, have you seen how popular the 580 is on steam charts?
@Arithmetic that's mostly because people have severe biases towards NVIDIA over AMD, even in gaming for some reason.
I'm an rx580 8gb user and did not get the steam hardware survey. I love this gpu! I have that exact 1.0 rev. gigabyte model.
Great content sir thats why I keep comming back and watch your vids for years now ;-)
I have an RX 570 4GB that I got back in late 2018 for $160 CAD new, but I did upgrade recently due to issues with running out of VRAM.
My two desktops with RX580 8GB are still kicking. Can play games and do renders and cad works. Worth it purchase
Love your videos man I’ve been watching you for a couple of years now and gotta say every video is a treat. Thanks for the content👍
I bought one for 60 USD and its working great, very good card even today especially for someone who plays Fortnite / WarThunder / Valorant
Just started building a new system with a i5 10400f and this gpu in it. I'm glad to know jusy how good it is. Thanks for the vid, it's amazing😁
Yeah but the RX 580 is showing it's age fast, I would upgrade that fast
I had an rx 480 up until November (which is essentially what a 580 is). That card carried me through the scalpocalypse. These are still great cards for budget 1080p gaming. You can put together a $600 gaming pc easily with these things.
Oh yes, I definitely remember the "video cardmageddon" of '21. I have an XFX GTS Black RX 580, but I was using the Zotac GTX 1660 Super more, which definitely saved my sanity through '21! I got the GTX 1660 Super in 2020 and the RX 580 in 2019.
I recommend getting an 8GB RX 5500 XT. It's RDNA, so it's newer gen, and much more efficient, all while costing just a tad bit more used.
Well, that's a good start for RDNA1. (Navi 1)
A steal.
Mine got serious thermal problems, once opened i find bad thermal paste over the GPU, once repasted the Video card finally worked nicely.
Ive had an 8gb 570 for the last 3 years and I dont think i'll need to replace it anytime soon, can still play new games 1080p high with no issues
Nice, I have just bought RX580 Sapphire nitro+ SE. Really good power for nice price for oldies PCs! Thank You for fresh material!
In last 5 years I owned two of these. I had one from XFX and one from MSI.
They did perform very well for 1080p and I was very happy with them until I upgraded my system. 🙂
Good video. I bought my RX 580 8GB in 2018 and I still use it to this day. I use it with an i5 8600 and 16GB of RAM. Great at 1080p.
Been editing on the 580 8gb version, handles very well with games too
I bought my RX580 6 months ago and it performs like it's still new. Played AAA games with no problems.
Could you tell me how much you paid for the gpu?
@@natas74d7 $80 with 6 months warranty
I use a RX580 8gb model in my kid's PC and it is still a great 1080p card.
Gonna run mine with a 5600x. Upgrading from I52400. Very excited ! Cheers from CA
I've got a gaming laptop with an i7 7700HQ and RX 580 8gb in it that I still use a lot for gaming on the go when I'm away from home. Most of the older games I play run well and look great. Currently replaying Prey 2017 with no complaints about the visuals and performance.
Can I know which brand is your laptop ?
gonna upgrade my rx570 net week. been using running it since 2018 and still runs games decently at low to mid setting at 1080.
I was still using a 2600x and RX580 until the other day when I finally updated to a 6650xt. Honestly a solid card still especially for the price
Have you thought about making a gameplay play through channel? We'd love to see you play Resident Evil 4 or other games too. Love the content man.
I actually am pissed that I didn't buy an Rx 480 or 580, instead of a 1060. The difference now is insane!
one of my favorite graphics cards can't believe you did a review of it I recently played final fantasy vii remake on high settings 1080p 60fps with a couple settings tweaked obviously & dips in the mid/low 50s on my rx580 you really get bang for your buck
Wow, the fans rotate on it! Amazing!
Thx for giving my old GPU a thumbs up in 2023. 🙂
I think the RX5500 would be a nice comparison, both the 4GB and the 8GB version.
I got a rx 590 sapphire 8 gb last month for 105 dollars. its a pretty good card too
I never got RX 580 but I have a 1060 with 6Gb and with a AMD 5600X with 16Gb 3600Mhz i got no problems gaming at 1080p.
Best Regards and good videos.
