    Use Lossless scaling, because if you got bottleneck form vram the upscales can't help you because it takes from vram so 8 GB won't help you in Forza horizon , Flight simulator nor Star Wars Jedi Survivors.

    Those crazy Chinese.
    I looked into these weird cards, along with the 16GB RX580 2048SP's I found mentions of an Frankenstein RTX 3080M with 16GB of VRAM! I made a few enquiries to the various Aliexpress/Alibaba sellers and yeah it does exist, the price was crazy though.
    I still kinda want one. Supposedly there is a 16GB 3070M 16GB version too but I couldn't ever find one. What I do know is that there is something called the Frankendriver project which makes these weird frankenstein high VRAM mobile Nvidia cards actually usable.

Now, if I am wrong and those numbers are reversed, which would still make sense, it means the game is being allocated the full 8GB but is using a little bit more as it's there. Either way, unless the driver knows the memory is there, it's next to useless. I would look for a modded driver for this.

If you prioritize getting to 60+fps (or 40+ with adaptive/g-sync) over eye-candy, 8GB is enough to cover most of the details entry-level (~$200) GPUs can handle.

    there is some point in time in which GPU might still push some game at min. settings but the minimal vram requirement of a given game will exceed the ammount of VRam that the GPU has...
    let's take GTX 960 for example... the 2gb version it is very limited since way back in the day for modern tittles. The raw power of the GPU might me around 1050ti performance, but with only 2gb of Vram many games won't even start. On the other hand, the 4gb vram version can still play many games.
    AMD never cheaped out in VRam, gpus like R7 370 already had a 4gb VRam version, and honestly in 90% of games a 4gb VRam setup will be just fine for 1080p. 8gb it is a need for very specific games (at this point in time, mid 2024) or higher resolutions BUT i'm pretty shure 3 or 4 years from now the 8gb version of the Rx 580 will still be running games that the 4gb won't...
    that being said... the raw GPU power and driver support won't make reasonable to use a 16gb vram version of the card. Maybe an Rx 590... and just maybe...

    It's not just about the quantity of extra memory but also the bus width that widens (adding chips on the backside is like going from single channel to dual channel in CPU ram terms ) as well as the memory speed it self (compared to what it had prior to that)

    • @thegeforce6625
      @thegeforce6625 Před měsícem +3

      No it doesn’t for this GPU, the bus width is still 256 bit even with double the VRAM, this is the equivalent of adding a 2nd bank of ram on the same channels.

    • @billkillernic
      @billkillernic Před měsícem

      @@thegeforce6625 still the other factors apply but I wouldn't be so sure for the bus width either unless the connection on both sides are physically the same which I doubt, extra connections more bits in parallel, if it says so in gpuz or what not I still wouldn't be sure because it reads what the bios tells it to that's how scammers make e.g trick GPU z to read a let's say Rx 470 as a rx580 and over sell you that...

    • @zuckdaddy1596
      @zuckdaddy1596 Před měsícem +3

      @@billkillernicclamshell mode halves the functional width of the chips, so they go from 32 bits to 2x clamshelled 16 bit modules. bandwidth is the same because the bus width is the same. and even the combined width of the memory is the same because double the modules at half of their width each is the same width as simply having the basic 8x 32 bit modules. you don't even get the benefit of dual rank memory because again, it's still 256 bit width across a 256 bit bus, not a dual rank 512 bit width across a 256 bit bus.
      do note that dual rank is not the same as dual channel. you will NEVER double bandwidth by adding additional modules of the same speed across the same sized memory controller. dual rank instead allows for interleaving commands across the chips. this results in a minor bandwidth improvement

    It's pretty stupid, but could probably be useful for AI like stable diffusion, as they're really VRAM-dependent. Still going to be quite slow though, would be cooler if they pulled this off with at least a 5700XT, which also legit could benefit from an extra couple gigs in gaming.

    You would be able to get the benefits down the line with newer games and improved fsr3 frame generation mods to where you could probably get over 30fps but not with 4k. Fsr3.1 will decouple frame generation so you could even use frame generation without mods later so yeah other than the sp 16gb vram would be useful.

    For most close/over 200-250 bus speed card. Having more/faster memory can be very useful (especially powerful) for the RX580 speed so slow than you will not gain more performance. You might be able to max out more on graphics. But you still will have less FPS.
    Additional note (especially for dumb Nvidia user or peopke with low knowledge) if a game need 9GB of VRAM and your card have 8GB. Even if the card will use less than 8GB it's just because it will cut some graphics. Or you will have less FPS. That's why if you compare a 4070 and a 7800XT. You can have the 4070 using 11 584 MB and the 7800XT 13 684 MB it's not the card managing worse his memory. It's the game cutting on some graphics.

    You should not test it at 4k despite it being possible, the rx580 was always a 1080 card no matter the vram, also 16gb with only 1 hdmi port seem to be futile, and actually most modified old cards with double the vram have also double the ports because they are aimed for multiple screen use (750ti 4gb/8gb with 6 hdmi for example).
    Basically this card is a waste for the manufacturer and the buyer unless it has multiple ports for +2 screen which is what it was meant for.

    Its not a special GPU or anything; Polaris PRO was released with 16GB for computational / rendering tasks. Some clever chinese figured out by hacking and flashing in a bios into a RX580 with different memory modules would work. If you wonder why AMD did not do this, back at the time chances where likely that there where 2Gbit chips available; so they stuck with 1Gbit chips.
