Unboxing:
Really liked the cardboard box and the palette itself, but felt like the bubblewrap AND the plastic wrap were overkill and wasteful, esp since she did cornstarch peanuts?
Included a double sided postcard and an envelope, nice touch.
Swatching on her paper:
Her swatch card is a joke. It's on like, cardstock (great for printing and folding, AWFUL for watercolor or judging watercolor?), it's double sided and invites double sided swatches and play (again, WHY ON THIS PAPER), and is huge for the palette. The swatches are in reverse row order, btw, so you have to kinda seek and find to figure out where the colors go. The colors use non-standard paint names, partially to be cute (like Jane Davenport) but also to hide what colors these colors are trying to be. NO pigment info available.
On Blick:
Swatches a bit better on this, a better representative of what the colors actually are, but still...very underwhelming.
Color Mixing:
Since there aren't a lot of traditional primaries or mixing colors, I kinda wung it
Because the color choices are interesting, you can theoretically mix some interesting colors, but most dry less saturated than the parent colors, even with really intense colors like Flow and Passion, or Flow and Fearless. These seem to fall apart and quickly lose their impact with the addition of water (and yes, I realize that's how you dilute watercolors, but like, more than you would expect or want to see) The 'opaque' colors REALLY fall apart fast, as does the fluoro.
This would not be the palette I'd pick for painting people, that's for sure.
Wet into Wet:
Lol, these are definitely dye based, they really start to fall apart in water. It takes a lot more paint to get any kind of color. These are also getting used up pretty fast. I feel these are more student grade than professional grade, which is funny, because again, Kristy did that big student grade comparison video, like she knows what bad watercolors (or mediocre watercolors) look like.
Compared against professional grade watercolors
I might be biased bc I mean, these are watercolors I selected, rebuy, and use, but I feel like the professional versions just shine brighter. More opacity when there needs to be opacity. Interesting granulation in Moonglow, Undersea green, and Cascade green. Granulation and nuance ot payne's grey. Compared to their professional cousins, Kristy's feel very flat.

The postcard itself is probably fine- it MIGHT be a cottonrag? It's not really the problem.
Pros:
In general, I really enjoyed Kristy's Art for Joy's sake book, and I think it contains a lot of great projects, information, and exercises. I wish it included more step by step photos, but I understand how hard it is to constantly take those. I also feel like you can probably find demonstrations of some of her techniques online if you dig (her YT channel doesn't really make it obvious, but I'm sure it's there)
The Palette:
The tin it comes in is very cute
The included postcard is a nice little touch
The branding makes it very clear that this is kinda a fan product? She's all over it. That said, I think her art is gorgeous, and her art prints are VERY fairly priced, and she has other art kits that include paintable linearts (haven't tested the paints included, so not sure about the quality), and I think that might be a better way to spend your money supporting Kristy than this particular palette.
The Cons:
I think it's overpriced for the quality of paints inside, but she does include an hour long getting started video, so that is an added value IMHO
The Paul Ruben's Professional 24 color set (which I can vouch for) is $39.99 on Amazon, and is a better value for the paint (amzn.to/3YTvmvd)
The Verdict:
Going to need to pull some seamiart footage to demonstrate your point.

I wanted to add a little addendum to this review, because I think some things deserve to be reiterated:
I really enjoyed Kristy's Art for Joy's sake, and would recommend it to people interested in mixing up their watercolor game or learning some new techniques. It's a beautiful book- full of pictures, and I really enjoyed the design of the book and the projects inside.
I think, especially after getting further into the Easily Influenced series, that you can tell that Kristy Rices comes from an art education background with the book and the content she releases online- there's a lot of care and intention behind what she presents.
I'm also super impressed with her branding- she is very consistent, and it's easy to tell at a glance when it's one of her videos on your feed. Her site layout is beautiful, and she has some really neat products- from her art prints, to little palette additions, to her water pots. Its definitely worth checking out- she's got a lot of great stuff!
Although I dislike the paints INSIDE her palette, the exterior of the palette is beautiful and it's a joyful little object that would probably bring a smile to the owner's face every time they used it.
Although we have had some interaction AFTER I created the review (she joined my Patreon, has messaged me on Instagram, and has left comments on some of my videos and Insta posts), we still do not know each other, I still don't have any real opinion about her as an individual and as a person, and this review is just that- a review.
Its not intented to be a takedown, nor is she on the chopping block. As a fellow artist and arts professional, I have a lot of respect for the life that Kristy has built for herself, for her art, and for how she conducts her business online, and feel that I have a lot I can learn from her.
She refunded me the cost of the palette (totally unasked for, I have not contacted her in any way whatsoever, and did not request nor even want a refund), and while she did suggest that I should have contacted her privately with my concerns regarding the palette, that's not something that most customers or reviewers would think to do beforehand, and I feel that doing so might have been a disservice to potential customers who are interested in an honest review of this palette.
I do hope that in the future, if we should come in contact, that it can be a pleasant experience for both of us.
❤ I think you gave a fair and honest review. I had some serious misgivings about that paint set when I saw it myself. Moving on to more serious paint sets, I just bought MaimeriBlu Jenna Rainey set and the Jeannie Dickson set. I was wondering if you want to, or have, a review of them.
You must be a mind reader! I just wrapped up the Jenna Rainey Book & Paint review, and am halfway thru the Jeannie Dickson (I need to let the paints dry out for a week to test if they reconstitute!). @loftyludroth YESSSS!!! I think it's inappropriate for Kristy to have REFUNDED the money for this palette...this screams "I can't stand by my product" and can only imply that Kristy wanted to influence the review in a more positive light. Kristy is trying to control the PR around her products...including her fans...and it's sad. EVERYONE is ENTITLED TO HAVE AN OPINION.
@@windywednesday4166 agreed - It's a review (and very much a review by someone who is a professional and does lots of reviews - it's not an attack) of a product and Becca makes it very clear throughout that this is *her* opinion and her preferences, and as a particular type of art professional.
I too put work out there and have occasionally received reviews that made me upset because I felt my work was misunderstood, but it's for me to deal with, not for the reviewer (by either figuring out ways to better convey my message in the future, or if I feel very strongly about it choosing to stick to my guns and have a good think about why I feel strongly about it, and how to better articulate my position to myself and others, or to ignore the review if I feel the reviewer just didn't do a good job!).
I watch videos from both channels and Kristy has by far many more viewers - Becca's channel offers something different and I doubt it would have a massive impact on Kristy - my feeling is that as a relatively successful art CZcamsr she should be able to take a product review from a much smaller channel (I imagine it would still be hurtful, but receiving product reviews is part of being a business with things for sale, not to mention as an artist one has to constantly deal with judgement too), and also agree that asking to be contacted privately instead feels a bit... inappropriate, considering Becca is not just a regular customer but someone who does reviews - so affectively a journalist in that respect. But I totally understand and empathise with the impulse on Kristy's part too (and don't think she should be judged harshly for it either)! I also feel that Becca's review was very even and Kristy's product was not treated better or worse than any other product Becca has reviewed on her channel. In fact she also had a lot of praise for Kristy and her other products.
I think price in relation to quality, and any added value (e.g. a nice tin/container) might also be a factor - Becca's done reviews of a lot of cheap watercolour palettes and has enjoyed some of them very very much (the folding Superior palette!) for what they are, when they have been priced accordingly. I also sometimes completely disagree with her assessments but I get it that this is her speaking from her experience and position. She makes that very clear always.
Also I think some of the people commenting may not be aware of Becca's other videos - she has extensively reviewed student-grade paints (usually 1hr+-long videos for each palette!) to see which were best value for people starting out (also why she can spot telling signs of poorer quality such as extrusion or the use of optical brighteners before even trying the paints, and why she can occasionally sound quite frustrated - after personally purchasing and testing dozens of them she has realised a lot of those products are quite literally the same!). This video is very much a continuation of that.

Imagine if a book author was so defensive about some random person's review and contacted the reviewer privately to "address any questions". It's virtually unheard of because authors are well aware it's poor form and frankly - embarrassing. And if occasionally some author slips up and does it, they get called out and ridiculed by the reader and writer community alike.
Yes we as authors are emotionally attached to our books, and feel like it's our soul's work. And still we will not stoop to this level and hunt down reviewers that post anything but gushy puff pieces. It's superbly unprofessional! Like these watercolor paints.

As an avid reader, I can tell you that authors have engaged in some abhorrent behavior too. Unfortunately it happens. Authors have written books dedicated to negative reviewers, stalked reviewers, and are constantly invading review spaces. In my opinion, reviews are for readers NOT authors. That’s what editors are for. Art is subjective and unfortunately people get pretty miffed and take it as a personal attack if you dislike something they made. Fans are almost always even worse. Many fandoms have a bad reputation for attacking people with opposing views. People need to understand art is subjective. Not everyone is going to like your product, and that’s ok. If you feel like you can stand by your product, you shouldn’t feel the need to constantly defend it.
I think you did a great job, and came to accurate assessments, and made your bias clear when one was present. I do think Kristy’s paints are best for her audience who likes to do exact paint-along projects with her videos. But I think most other painters would find the palette limiting. I do think they are not a great value based on quality, but most people are probably in the fan camp and willing to pay more to support the content creator they enjoy. I would feel bad if someone just wandered across the paints and had no idea who the person was nor that the overwhelmingly positive reviews are from diehard fans coming into this with a pretty big bias. That’s the risk with products created by influencers.
Please keep the series going and try not to get bogged down by the fan trolls who dislike critical reviews.

I like Kristy Rice but I would never buy her paints, they remind me of the Jane Davenport sets and the Prima Marketing sets which seem very mediocre . I own her brushes and paint pot which I do like. For the money there are better student paint sets to try.
I appreciate the honest review. To be honest, the paints always looked cheap to me, even just in youtube videos. I can appreciate the need for artists to make money for sure, though.

I appreciate Kristy's attitude about painting. I had impulse bought some of the Angora Opaque watercolors (don't recommend unless you're craving some bright, chalky watercolors that aren't all that opaque, ha). The colors were unnamed with no pigment information available, so I found her voice in my head telling me to swatch freely (or whatever terminology she uses). I drew a random figure-8-ish line with my black marker (because I was testing opacity) and then swatched the colors along the cute line. That was all Kristy. Kristy invites people to play, make marks and embrace anything that looks like what you were trying to paint. I think hers is an excellent approach, especially for newcomers. I'm much more likely to gravitate to her than to a watercolor artist who paints realism. It's fine for them, but to me, watercolors shine more when used in loose paintings.
Buyer beware on any supply you buy where the claim is "artist quality" or "lightfast". Include the major brands in that. (e.g I know that Polychromos and Albrecht Durer aren't all as lightfast as claimed). That said, I do find it troubling that Kristy's audience is greatly newbies, who might think her watercolors are a place to start. They are not, and she doesn't do anything to dissuade that. Maybe if she'd sold a "mixing set' and then the weird colors, I'd feel differently. I worry that a newbie would buy her supplies, be terribly unsuccessful and quit. That's not fair. I do like her palettes and may be "forced" (by my own inability to stem compulsion) to get one.
Being a small supplier is expensive. The monetary commitment at the outset is quite high. The risk is high. And unless you're making a huge quantity, your price per unit can be high. People who've never been in retail don't understand that the cost of goods sold on something includes the cost of the goods in the same run that didn't sell. So I think her price is probably commensurate with all that, but I hope that newbies who try her supplies see them for what they are (pretty palette and a way to support a helpful artist) and don't get discouraged. I've heard the brushes are good, but to me they look like anything you could get from Royal and Langnickel, although I've never tried them. They may be good too. My two cents.

On the artist quality note: ASTM has a cert for watercolors specifically on that! ASTM D5067.
It was revised in 2021, but the 1999 revision that's floating around isn't *too* different as far as I've been able to read... And it gives you an idea of what the expectation is for the paints and their labeling!
@@kinnokitsune In my experience, some paints, even a subset of well-recognized artist quality paints, don't live up to the lightfastness rating. And sometimes it depends on whether they're used in mass tone or more diluted. We artists and would be's (me) always have to check our actual copies of the supplies we use, run lightfastness tests on the way we use them. That said, if there's no pigment information or if pigment information is given but not assigned to a particular paint, (LOL), then "professional" is just a marketing term. To be upset that people recognize that is pretty disappointing and amounts to gaslighting on the part of the product designer, honestly. Anyway, trying not to rant, ha.

I generally agree with what you've said! I think we're on the same train of thought.
The reason I brought up that particular ASTM standard is it focuses on the expectations for labeling for artists' grade paints. It's an opt-in situation with ASTM though... But the major brands tend to follow it (unless they can't for some reason).
Handprint has some info on the Standard Specification for Artists' Watercolor Paint, which... I mean. If you're going to label your stuff as professional, I think the general expectation is that it falls in line with the labeling requirements on this.
But the paints in question do not, and here we are.
I have many many thoughts on these paints as well, but I'm not sure they're well-suited for a public forum, given the climate surrounding them. It is a bit frustrating.
I genuinely LOVE that Kristy's advice is able to genuinely help those who enjoy her work, and that she was able to inspire you to just get to making stuff. That is awesome, and a wonderful legacy for any artist to leave. I also genuinely love that you can appreciate her teaching style and her artistic methods, while also seeing some of the issues with the palette itself.
I recognize that many many student grade brands and some professional grade brands have issues (lightfastness is not my biggest concern, how paints handle is usually what deters me)- that's why I share my reviews! I hope that I can help others with a glazy, layering, illustrative style find watercolors they'll enjoy, as art supplies can be quite expensive. I frequently teach absolutely new to watercolor beginners, and that tends to color my expectations of a color palette. I also teach them what qualities to look out for in watercolors, so there's certain tendencies I expect (granulation for example, or a more subtle wash) from paints at certain price points.
I manufacture goods (although on a different scale, and different goods), so boy howdy do I know how rough margins and manufacturing can be! I understand a little how she feels- I have four self published books to my name, and have spent years representing my own art and works to an audience that is often middling interested. That said, Reviews are not for Authors- and I don't read reviews of my own work, I count on my beta readers to let me know about issues early on, and accept that as a human, I cannot make a perfect work. I have gotten solicited critiques that triggered my RSD and I needed to step back for a moment and collect myself- that's part of being an author and artist.
I think my biggest disappointment in all of this (besides Lindsay getting dogpiled) is that very few who dislike what I've had to say have looked further than this review, and don't see that I review A LOT of products, have created tutorials for over a decade, and create comics and illustrations. I do wish people would look deeper, as they demand that we should do the same.
@@Nattosoup Oh, I so hope that nothing I said was seen as contrary to what you said. I agree with you. And I 100% agree with you about the dogpiling and on all of the rest. And I think I mentioned somewhere on one of your posts that if people think you were harsh to Kristy, they need to look at your Rosa field test and some of your other tests. They obviously didn't delve into your work here and they act like you were somehow singling out Kristy. But I've learned on the internet that some people have a tendency toward tunnel-thinking, which results in wild distortions of facts.

Labeling is important, and I wish manufacturers would stop fibbing about "professional" supplies that are clearly not. The reason I focused on the lightfastness is because it's a mark of a "professional paint'. It's a harm to a manufacturer's personal reputation to overstate their supplies' quality, and scapegoating someone else isn't going to change that. Yes, reviews are for the consumers, and should also be feedback to the manufacturers. The best way for any manufacturer to handle a less than wonderful review is to ask themself, how can I fix this? How can I be better? The mediocre way to handle them is to ignore them. The worst way is to publicly lament the review and say that it should have been taken off-line... and to passively encourage people over to the reviewers' social media to lambast them, as it seems happened in these cases. Accepting criticism well is a sign of maturity. It hurts, when a person knows they've poured themselves into something. But if they don't say, "well what can I do to constructively handle this?" then they're missing an opportunity and only hurting themselves. You and Lindsay will get past it. They won't.
I was gifted this set recently and it’s unfortunately been a huge disappointment to work with. Having worked for many years with Daniel Smith, Roman Syzmal, these are very much student grade and I feel it’s incredibly deceptive to market them as professional grade paints. To top off my experience the brush set was also poorly fabricated. The brush head glue separated after about 7 days of use. Frustrated I gave them to a friend. This review is honest and accurate. Apparently her fan club is trolling in the comments like a group of mean girl high schoolers. I assume you are also the ones attacking Becca in her Temu review. Very childish.

Well friend, I'm gonna have to 100% completely disagree with you on that. This artist posted her honest review and opinions on a product with the knowledge and experience she has as a professional artist. How ridiculous that even a PROFESSIONAL cant review a product honestly without Karens, Chads and Iamoffended Sallys accusing her of jealousy and hatred! When in reality we should all be grateful there are still honest professionals who are brave enough to stand up and speak the truth! For you to immediately point your finger and accuse her of jealousy and hatred because you dont agree with her PROFFESIONAL opinions is so backwards and simply wrong. If you're going to point your finger at anyone- point it at Kristy! Kristy is making mediocre paints and advertising them as professional..and then when a professional artist posts an honest review about her paints- Kristy acts like a victim, makes drama and even name drops the artist-- giving REAL trolls motivation to hurt and slander. If Kristy disagrees with and fights against honest criticisms and reviews from professional artists and customers how will she ever improve her products. I've been a fan and subscriber of Kristys and Beccas for years. BUT I'm an even bigger fan of honesty, courage, and not turning everything uncomfortable into victimhood. In my opinion, her palette reminds me of Gencraft Watercolors, as this palette doesn't reflect Artist Grade/Professional Quality - therefore, you’re paying a premium for her branding, not for the quality of the actual watercolor paints. Granted artists need to make money...but I'd rather spend the money on other student grade brands for sketchbook work. For the cost of this palette - one can buy professional Ukraine watercolors like Rosa Gallery, or even a small set of Daniel Smith Tubes. At least with those brands, you know the exact pigment of each color and the majority of them are lightfast...as they have had extensive lightfast tests done on them. I think her books offer better value than these paints.
Exactly. FYI... Rosa gallery has been on sale lately. I picked up their 24 'full pans' set in a cardboard box for less then $15... I believe they're still at that price. It's a great straightforward set by itself. On top of that, it's an education in pigment information and mixing if you want to go there... which I do. If I really wanted to follow along, I could pull the Cherry Blossom from my gansey tambi ($33 for 48 recently) and a fluorescent yellow from the Doodle Hog set. ❤

I was watching a video recently in another channel and she's done something i haven't seen before for a CZcamsr releasing a product. She just launched a monthly subscription box.
She primarily does landscapes and she's in Scotland. The paints she's including are gouache. So each month is a few tubes of paint, 2 brushes, 4 pieces of paper, an art print that is also the reference image of what the online painting lesson is about, etc. The first box includes a pallette too. It is $50. Each month. So that could be pricey but you're getting an art print and access to an online lesson you can watch over and over
I asked if a person can sign up any time and still start with Box #1 because they seem to build on each other.
It seems really well out together but i can't afford ut rught now.
It sounded to me like you'd end up with a lot of brushes if you kept getting the boxes.
One of the things that bothers me about Jazza's products is that they're all limited time offers. Like these bags. He wanted any professional to be able to use them, but then they should be something that non artists should be able to find who aren't currently subscribed. A bag you could still order a year later. But he makes them limited to make you rush to get them.
The problem with the Sarah Burns box is the extra 12 dollars for shipping. 62 a month is pricey IMO.

I think this was a fair review. I don't buy from influencers for a very good reason. It's always going to benefit the influencer over the buyer. I have bought from them in the past, but I found I was often more disappointed than impressed when the items were received.
I do believe paints are more important than paper, but I also feel that both are important. To me, brushes are third place. You can create art with cheap brushes, but you will be disappointed if the paper and paints do not work as they should. Also it's not fair to take advantage of newbies by selling inferior products at a highly over inflated price.
This isn't against Kristy or any other artist. This is for the person who is looking out for others.
It isn't you. Kristy Rice is attacking anyone who reviews her products with honesty. Like The Frugal Crafter... I hate to see artists that act that way. We live in a big beautiful world, but we all see it through our own eyes, which is also beautiful!!!
I painted some quick flowers with my Kristi Rice palette and the colors were bright and beautiful. I wish I could share the painting...it was a simple book mark so not big. I have not had any problems painting with her palette. The yellow was not something I loved and I finally replaced it with lemon yellow. Professional paints, not sure about that but for my painting (not selling anything) the paints are very acceptable to my collection.
Was anyone else yelling at the screen at around 47:49 to "flip the set around" it's in the right order it's just been flipped upside down. 😂
I couldn't help but laugh since she was far too deep in lecture mode at that moment...which let's be honest most of us can totally relate to as we are all human so it tickled my funny bone even more watching it as that would be me.😊

The time she spends on every single aspect of whatever she reviews is quite impressive and if you don't believe me just check how thick her notebook is!😂 (as my daughter who is a stick figure would say she be thiiiicckk. I'm like girl those thighs don't even touch stop calling them thick every two minutes just because it's trendy.)😂
As for the drama my take is if people really took the time to think about what it would feel like if it happened to them and empathize it would go a long way. Respectful discourse helps too.
I love my Rosa paints and Becca doesn't but neither of us is wrong. It's just an opinion. She uses her paints differently and does a lot of layering. I love the actual cadmium yellow which is more opaque where the hues are more transparent and that bugged her.
Our opinion was different but I still respected hers and enjoyed the video gave it a like and went on painting with my Rosa's with a smile. The world would be boring if we were all the same.😊
I think the printing on just the swatch paper is due to her prioritising the promotional pamphlet, especially since it's also a product that is sold on Amazon too. I'm not sure whether there was an issue of having 2 pieces of paper one for the swatch and another for the promotional info. 🤔

It is and it’s a beautiful color. I’ve use this watercolor set almost down to the pan. This review troubles me deeply, and it feels very personal for some reason. You can say you have no motivation, but when the things you say, for the amount of time that you say them, can potentially harm someone’s business? Wow. I had never heard of this channel before, and absolutely gave it a thumbs down. Sorry, that’s just my opinion and I will continue to use my paint and brushes that Kristy produces. Too much insinuation in this review for someone who claims to not have any bias. And I have no dog in this hunt, but I have a right to my opinion, and this whole thing is just unwarranted
Yes, which means it's fugitive. I hope people aren't disappointed if they decide to hang a picture with this paint on a wall. Many of the fluorescent paints literally last weeks in light, not even months.

The metal palette is nice but the paints...not so much.
Possibly it was pulled because the packaging was wrong? She went live today explaining issues with the manufacturer english understanding. She says there are no dyes and pigment info is on the packaging now. Just fyi.
I think she said it was pulled for a while because of some keyword issues in the listing. There are dyes in there somewhere, given there is at least one fluorescent paint. I see her website has been updated with a photo of the new packaging showing pigment info. She still refuses to divulge which pigment goes with which paint, and since three of the pigments are fugitive (plus the dye in the fluorescent), I bet at least half of the paints are fugitive. I am glad the pigment info is more easily accessible now, though. That's a step in the right direction.
There is a way of critiquing while still being kind and businesslike.. (I discovered a long time ago that it keeps drama to a minimum.) Lindsey's was. Lindsey was also receptive to hearing from Kristy. (Another important part of dealing with others is to respectfully hear the other side out.) A critique is just a person's opinion, take it or leave it. You didn't like Rosa Gallery for the type of art you do. Doesn't stop me from loving mine. Your opinion, my opinion. You don't use them. I do. We're both happy.

You’re being rude and condescending just in your reading of the swatch card. It’s a brochure, you can make your own if you want on your favorite paper. I always make a swatch card to fit inside. You already had your mind made up before you opened it.
I actually have two of her palettes, one for travel and one for home and love them. Maybe a comic artist has less appreciation for this because it’s awesome for florals and landscape artists.
I don’t do many florals or landscapes, mostly still life, but I LOVE her palette and think it’s just as good as some high end name brands 🥰

Hundred percent agree and that’s why I gave this channel a thumbs down. The tone of this entire review was way off kilter. It unsettled me when I first saw it, then I saw the addendum and it unsettled me even more. Then, when Kristy responds and comments on these posts, those are removed and she’s reported for Spam which puts her channel in danger. Very shady. If you want answers, let the person that manufactures the paints answer them.

I totally agree with what you’ve said. I’ve noticed many comments deleted that do not align with the channels opinions. That’s very shady in itself. Doesn’t come off as very honest. If you can’t let others have differing opinions in the comment section of your review video..then it seems like you are somewhat targeting her brand/company with nothing but negativity. The whole video came off as though you’re mocking Kristy Rice. I’m a landscape/loose floral artist. I’ve had this palette since it came out and I LOVE IT. It’s time for me to reorder actually because I’ve used it all. I was shocked at this video when it came up on my recommended. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with KR/Paintcrush. Anytime there is an issue Kristy always wants to fix it for the customer because SHE CARES. ❤

@@jencendiary I found this review searching for new videos. Kristy has integrity and is so enthusiastic about teaching people to have fun while learning. Don’t blame her for this woman hating on people. She was clearly biased as she was putting the paints down before even trying them. I have two sets and love them.

Many of Becca's reviews are in-depth and quite long. Most only cover 1 product and they are probably 30-60 minutes. This covers 2 products, so it's longer.
Did you watch the video from start to end? There is a lot of info in it about the book and paints.

You did great on your book review, but I wouldn't call the entire review unbiased. I think Lindsey The Frugal Crafter did a better job at keeping herself sounding professional.
I agree with you on many points, but when you read the promo material from the palette, your voice was dripping with sarcasm. For real.
You lost me there. Kristy isn't perfect. I enjoy her work, and I really like her paintbrushes. Her book is good. She is a really good teacher, as well.
But your sarcasm and frankly, snotty attitude on the paint card....you lost a possible viewer. Again--Kristy didn't send me--YT's algorithm did.
Sorry. Also, I think giving you a refund is because she -did- stand by her product. If not fully satisfied, your money back, guaranteed. Its what businesses do.

26:43 i feel as though you are giving a review of these products for yourself which is fine unless you have an audience who wants an unbias review. I mean ive never listened to a review quite like this one. Maybe make the review less about your style and how you paint.. otherwise you leave out a million different styles and personalities in the process..this review seems very petty....this is why...all her customer reviews beam about her brushes...her brush line is by far her best product so it sucks you missed out on reviewing those for viewers. Why not give her some props for that? Why pick a book to review and not the actual brushes she uses in every video?
One last thing, ive always personally been suspicious of her paints and even called her out on the live she did to promote them about dyes not being lightfast..she then got defensive very quickly and she actually tried to tell me that dyes were indeed lightfast...so im not being biased here... one thing i find very telling is that kristy uses her paint nearly every video she makes..so it isnt like shes selling people bad food while she eats organic... i actually miss seeing her paint from daniel smith and schmincka...i dont want to come off as a fanatic fan of kristys because im not. This is only my opinion.
To spend so much time on one lesson in her book that you personally dont prefer seems short sighted. Wanting more pictures or clearer directions is more beneficial to the majority..

The packaging is for security and protection...if that palette got to you broken..you would be singing an entirely different tune lady.(you are really complaining about her packaging? Really?)
Schmincka doesn't give us good swatch cards either sooo...she had choices to make to keep the price down..which you admit. Again..if this palette was 20 bucks more then you would be singing a different tune again.
@@britbrat4559 Becca doesn't like excessive packaging. The palette being wrapped in plastic *and* bubble wrap was excessive. I used to ship out stained glass pieces, so I know a bit about shipping delicate items. Just the bubble wrap would have been fine for this item. The plastic sleeve was unnecessary. Kristy sent her entire line to Frugal Crafter to review. Becca bought these products with her own money, so I'm not going to fault her for not reviewing the brushes as well. And I bet Becca would call out Schmincke for crappy swatch cards as well.
I only own a set of paint brushes from Kristy and I actually like them. I’m not a huge fan, but I found her while looking for inspiration in my journey to learn watercolor so she is one of many artist that I follow and and see in my feed.
Today while waiting for a flight, I watched her stories and found out about you. So I got curios. And tho I would not buy Kristy’s pallet because I’m just not spending that much on watercolor paints right now, I feel like this review screams jealousy. Big time jealousy of how successful she is and comes across as if you think that she doesn’t deserve her success but how you need to pick her “tricks” to be like her.

I'm surprised by this video because I've watched some of her other videos and she's not like this. But yes, this video came across as very sarcastic and by what she was saying, it did seem like she had a strong bias before even using them. But I am surprised. I've watched some of her other videos and her tone is not always like this.
