Our Ford Dealer was excellent, but any time I went on a long drive I didn't know if it would get me home. Not a pleasant owning experience.

It'd be good to ask the owners what their various maintenance regimes have been from an interior perspective. When you reviewed the SK Forester you said the leather was hard, but mine is about the same age and mileage, and I manage to use upholstery protection every 3 to 6 months and it's still about the same as new, maybe a bit shinier, but still fairly soft.
This with 190k, would be good to know, is it mainly a long haul cruiser, or a daily commuter, because what hurts the seat bolsters is entry and egress movements, more than necessarily being sat in, so if it's driving a few hundred ks at a time vs 10k, it can make a big difference.

Just like the Territory, a great car ruined by terrible quality. I so wanted to buy one 3 years ago but ultimately couldn't face the potential hassles so I bought a Prado.
My work colleague just had the gearbox on his 3 year old 10 speed blow up and, you guessed it, the dealer had "never heard of that happening before" LOL. It was replaced under warranty but it took about 6 weeks to get the parts. He sold it ASAP after it was fixed and just bought a new 76 series.

I have an early 2016 Everest Limited (titanium) 3.2, the fist of this generation. I bought it with only 7000km on the clock in 2018. I just hit 50 000km a few weeks and have had no mechanical issues, and no rust issues. The only issue I have had is the tailgate issue, which was compounded by the tailgate being really poorly fitted from the factory. My vehicle is out of warranty so I'll have to have it repaired out of my own pocket. Other than that, this vehicle is exceptional. I have serviced the vehicle every year whether I have hit the distance interval or not, but this long list of problems doesn't exactly fill me with confidence for my next 50 000km though.

The EGR is a common issue and like Jim mentioned, if it isn't picked up quickly enough by the driver, total engine failure will be the end result. However Redarc do an after market kit that warns the driver that there is a problem with the EGR before it causes permanent damage.

Is it because QC is low?

Our workplace opted to change majority of the company fleet (100's of Utes) to Fords (Rangers) for the safety edge they offered over Toyota (Hilux). It didn't last, our mechanics and the employees got sick of never ending breakdowns & went back to Toyota. Fords were nicer to drive than Toyota's when they worked, but they spent a lot of time in the workshop. If I was using my own money, I would never buy a Ford.
