    I purchased 2 of these 1000w inverters and installed in Mini vans, direct connection to the car battery with 12’ of #4 welding wire. We ran the pretty much non stop for 6 days during a coast to coast bicycle race. Used them to power USB power strips charging cell phones, batteries, and bicycle lights. We did turn them off if we turned the car off for more than a few minutes to minimize any car battery drain. I realize we never had an extreme load attached, but they worked fine. I now use one in my truck to charge camera, GPS, and phone batteries, and some LED spot lights during desert trips.

      I actually think an inverter like this is the right size for those types of jobs. It doesn't cost much to oversize to 1kw and the result is that the inverter runs with very little stress. For long term reliability an inverter like this should only be run at over 50% load intermittently, and then you have the reserve power should you unexpectedly need it. Thanks for the user story!

    Thanks again for your informative videos. I have this exact inverter and use it plugged into my transfer switch during the night when I don't want to run my my generator. I wired the transfer switch end of the cord bridged across the split phase so both sides of the house are powered. My house is 95% LED and only those circuits and low power devices are used at night.

      ***** I've watched a few of your videos and am trying my best to figure out which brand inverter I should buy.. I'm looking for 2500 Watts continuous. 3000 watt continuous is fine also. What would you recommend? It will be used heavily and I expect it to last a while. Price isn't that big of a deal but I can't buy some $800 inverter. So what would you recommend?
      What I expect.
      1) One that will handle heavy loads.
      2) Worth what it costs.
      3) And does what it says.

    I now plan to purchase this for a emergency power source.
    I'll use it for lights and different small items that this inverter will handle like a charm.

    Thank you so much for your informative and unbiased reviews! I recently bought this inverter and am putting together a basic solar system. My biggest uncertainties lie with circuit breakers and fuses. I'm sorry for such a basic question, but am I wrong for assuming that because there are three 50amp fuses on the inverter already, I don't need to add a fuse or breaker into the positive wire from the battery to the inverter? I'm using a WindyNation P30L 30amp charge controller and installing a WindayNation 30amp automatic reset circuit breaker between the solar panel and the charge controller and another 30amp automatic reset circuit breaker in between the charge controller and the battery. Again, total newbie here and any info to help me learn or pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated!

  • @vanamee692
    @vanamee692 Před 7 lety +1

    A general question about all these inverters that you are testing: These inverters typically have multiple outlets. Is EACH outlet individually rated for the full output of the inverter, or is it only combined? For example, if an inverter is rated 2000 watt, can I use a single outlet for a 2000 watt load (while the other outlet has no load.)
    Or must I restrict load to a max of 1000 watts per outlet, thus 1000 plus 1000. Is it possible to connect the two outlets together (pigtail) and then connect to a distribution grid onboard my van?

      Possible but not worth the time/effort/expense unless it is just for a hobby experiment and if so then I approve! There are various PWM controllers available for sale, though it would require a fair amount of knowledge and modification. I just don't see it being worth it in my opinion.

    It may possibly get 91 percent efficinetcy if you use some larger cables. Your loosing heat through your cables. Heet equals energy! Larger cables equal more efficient. Thanks for the review.

    • @TheChaps83
      @TheChaps83 Před 9 lety +1

      Losses in input cables aren't measured, because voltage is taken at input terminals of inverter.
      Losses in output cable are marginal, the current is ten time lower.

    • @abyssunderground
      @abyssunderground Před 9 lety +3

      TheChaps83 If the input voltage was nearer to nominal on the mid-high range loads, i.e. 12.5v or so, the efficiency might go up a little too.

      Bestek donated this inverter, however I only accepted it on the condition that I could release an unbiased review no matter my opinions on it. I usually don't accept samples for review but they were very reasonable and after disassembling it I don't have any reason to believe that this was not a representative sample.

    Buy your incandescent lamps while ya still can, Knurl. From what I understand they are soon to be illegal/banned. (I think they already are in CA, of course) -- Thanks for the review. When it comes to cheap inverters I know what brand to buy now. :)

      I stocked up on 100W bulbs back when they were legal. :) For general lighting I'm transitioning from CFL to LED now that LED has matured from the junk that was being sold just a couple of years ago... But incandescent is still handy for various purposes like dummy loads and high CRI applications.

    • @knurlgnar24
      @knurlgnar24  Před 9 lety +1

      It is not actually possible to do so without additional circuitry, inductors, etc. The videos out there on it that I have seen do not work properly and are not engineered - they're more of a hacked VFD than a true inverter.

    • @danyala.1659
      @danyala.1659 Před 9 lety

      ***** I would be truly grateful of you if you made a video on how do such.
      Also, which do you think is better a inverter or a good ol' UPS unit? And is it possible to charge and use a battery at the same time? Science says no. I laugh...

    • @knurlgnar24
      @knurlgnar24  Před 9 lety +1

      Danyal Ahmad
      UPS units are designed for short term use and aren't very efficient - they usually overheat with continuous use too. I'd go with an inverter designed for the purpose but as a matter of interest I may choose to use a UPS unit for the challenge!
      And you can certainly 'use' and also charge a battery. The net combination of the charger system current, battery current, and load current will always add to zero but that doesn't mean you cannot put a battery on a charger and also use it at the same time. People do this all the time with phones, laptops, etc. Often times the charger isn't capable of supplying 100% of the power the computer/phone/tablet needs and it gets the rest from the battery during those brief times when more power is needed, then it continues charging.

    • @danyala.1659
