  • Crafted as a poignant reaction to the devastating events in Kiev in 2014, "Shrine of the Fallen" is inspired by the ancient Ukrainian folk song Plyve Kacha. The folk song transformed into an anthem during the protests, symbolizing both national pride and a collective mourning for those who lost their lives. The composer aptly characterizes the piece as a fusion of Arabian Dances and the atmosphere of Moscow in 1941, resulting in a profoundly impactful yet contemplative musical experience. The inclusion of excerpts from the Ukrainian national anthem amplifies the emotional depth of the composition, reaching its zenith as the instrumentalists harmonize in four parts during the piece's final moments. Please enjoy The United States Air Force Band's performance of "Shrine of the Fallen".
