Well we're still getting mass shootings like, every day. I work at a preschool and we have satellite campuses of other grades and there was a shooter at the high school last week. No one died so it didn't make the news but a lot of parents came to pick up their babies just to hold them close. Rough times here.
This is how I found out that lady died, and honestly hearing it from Satan makes it so much better ♡ Edit: For those unaware of Emmett Till's story, he was a 14-year-old Black boy whose mother had intentionally moved to Chicago to escape southern hate crimes, but who begged his Mom in August 1955 to let him visit his cousin in Mississippi. One day, during his visit, Emmett went to Bryant's Grocery. The specific moment is unknown, but in short, Emmett whistled at some point while shopping. One person says it was in admiration towards the board of one of the many checkers games being played outside. Emmett's cousin said it was during check-out while Emmett asked for bubble gum, as Emmett had a stutter, and his mother had taught him to purse his lips and softly whistle before "buh" noises. Bryant - the white woman running the store - claimed it was a sexual whistle, and that Emmett put his hands all over her waist, said he told her he had "been with white women before", and wouldn't let go of her. She, by the way, later said she completely lied. Regardless, a Black boy whistled in the Jim Crow era, in Missouri, with a married white lady in hearing range. 3 days after he disappeared, his tortured, lynched, murdered corpse was pulled out of a nearby river. Emmett's mother demanded an open casket so the world would see what was done to her son, and even racist papers that initially supported the lynching eventually turned against the perpetrators. But because by then the murderers had already received a "not guilty" jury verdict, double jeopardy law prevented any further legal action - and Bryant and the killers all enjoyed long full lives without any negative consequences. **Till's memorial, by the way, is still routinely vandalized by white supremacists.**
I felt bittersweet about her dying. Like, I'm glad she's finally dead, but I'm also pissed off she never received any retribution for what she did, and nobody responsible for what they did to Emmett was given any actual consequences.

The guilty parties were tried, but got off about free, and due to our double Jeopardy laws back then (I don't think we have these laws today, probably in part for this reason.), they were legally allowed to brag to the news and get paid for their stories about how they got away with murdering a middle schooler in cold blood. When people called for Carolyn to be tried for lying under oath back in the 1980's, the justice system went "She's TOO OLD to go to jail!" And never fucking tried her. Every time I think of this case, I seethe; but every time I think about what they did to that poor little boy, I cry. He had his fourteenth birthday party like ten days before he was killed. Did you know that? He was all of fourteen for less than two weeks when he was murdered. He hadn't even started high school yet. They killed him before he could start his new school year.

They can say someone saw them do it, they have evidence(pics, vids, DNA, etc), they can hold you IN JAIL OR POLICE STATION w/o charges, w/o your Miranda rights, w/o legal representation. Until they actually arrest you & read your Miranda rights to you, they can legally kidnap you. The only right you have until then is to SHUT UP. Oh, and that whole innocent until proven guilty is PURE BULLSHIT
