Learn to Draw Cars - I Drew 101 Cars Over 16 months (Progression)

- More than a year ago, I decided to improve my sketching skills (and start a CZcams channel), so I set a goal to draw 101 cars.
It took a lot longer than I expected, but I drew them all!
I recognize that my starting sketch is already more advanced than most sketchers, but thought you might enjoy seeing the progression that comes with (semi)consistent practice!

If you're trying to learn to draw cars, the best advice I can give is to consistently practice every day.
Subjects to study are: wheel proportions of common vehicles, 2-point perspective, and ellipses.
I also recommend drawing on cheapo printer paper, so you can use your previous sketches as underlays. Many of the sketches in this video were drawn 4 or 5 times before I scanned the "final" sketch. I'll sketch the car on one side of a piece of paper(1), then flip that piece of paper over and draw the mirror image(2). Then I'll lay a piece of paper over that second sketch and draw it again(3). Then I'll flip that second piece of paper over and draw a mirror image(4), I then may get another piece to draw the final image(5). One of the most valuable skills you can learn is the ability to see and correct your own mistakes. The cheaper the paper, the less you care about messing up and the more you can experiment and learn.
The pens I used include: cheap bics, cheap markers, expensive markers, cheap papermate flairs, primsacolor pencils and more. I know you won't believe me, but it really doesn't matter what you draw with.

Its most refined in terms of a finished artwork maybe, but in my opinion there are many designs that are way more interesting

I dont think so,what makes you want to watch a video is the thumbnail and the title itself,even if you didnt like how the video really was it would still count like a view.I also think that the other one is better because he was being more specific.

It would have been cool to see how long spent on each drawing. You can tell that you're sometimes trying to go quickly while still capturing the car's "essence" and other times you go into a lot of detail. It would have been neat to see the time spent on each image change through your progression.

wow. i think this channel is right up my alley. i also learned alot of skills for the past +5 years, i learned many musical instruments, drawing, making video games and mostly filmmaking. keep the hell on doing these and i'll definently be there. three videos and i love this already!!!

if you want an accurate drawing, yeah i agree, but the second half was mostly artistic choices! its nice to switch it up sometimes
The point isn’t finished artwork it’s learning to understand cars better one of the earlier ones may have been worked on more than the later ones. With the knowledge he gained he could crest a better design than before and he can create his own car designs rather than just copying.

I always stood clear of cars when drawing. But this video unbelievably inspired me to challenge myself and draw them. Seems amazing that this one video made me subscribe.
Yeah everyone has their thing. I can't draw animals at all, I tried to draw a horse the other day and had no idea what the proportions are supposed to be.

Where do you find references to start sketching? Real life? Maybe your interested in other people's work? Is that where you start? Or should you start on shapes?
Drawabox has some good tutorials. I just draw things that are fun and interesting to me. ie. I can draw robots all day, but don't ask me to draw a horse.

Mostly papermate flairs and copics or prismacolors.

what's an underlay?
Basically tracing your own drawing, but improving each time. So draw it once, put some tracing paper on it, draw it again, put tracing paper on that, draw it again, until it looks good.
I'm doing a thing were I fill an entire notebook with hands. But I just need to get a new notebook.
