Find me everywhere I am on the Internet here: timchilders.bio.link.
I started this channel in order to document life as it gets lived. It's about where I live, how I live, where I travel, why I travel, and so much more. Eclectic is a good word for the content to be found here. I hope you will come along for the ride!

Looking to buy camera gear and accessories for photography or video? Search Adorama, one of the largest in the world, with this affiliate link. If you buy something, I get a few pennies here and there: adorama.rfvk.net/oqB7zE
Wanting to get money back every time you buy gas (along with other purchases are online stores and restaurants)? Upside might be something you'd like to explore. Take a look around at their website at upside.com. Then, when you download the app, use code TIM22542 when you sign up.

Before traveling, it might be most important to build you strength and walking endurance. Loosing weight is good too, but gasping for breath after hauling your luggage or climbing a castle tower is seriously not fun. Make your endurance a top priority so you will enjoy the trip!

Intermittent Fasting is the only way I finally lost 10 pounds at 76 years old. Jason Fung, MD has great CZcamss on the subject! I have breakfast roughly at 10 am and dinner at 5 pm. You CAN do it if you make up your mind…😊 You are so enjoyable and entertaining!

Yes! We love Dr Fung! Knowing a real doctor, not some pseudo-medico youtuber endorsed intermittent fasting convinced my husband and I to try it. Hubby lost 50 pounds. I didnt have much to lose, but I went from a size 10 pants to a size 4.

Two meals a day helps reduce caloric input without too much discomfort, and you don't need a CZcams video for that.

Tim,my husband and I are both 70. It's tough losing weight at our age however I'll tell you what finally worked for me. I lost 50 pounds on a medically supervised diet which was essentially this : LEAN protein, mainly poultry and fish, any vegetables minus really starchy ones, no carbs- nothing white (rice, potatoes flour,SUGAR) or any processed foods. I could eat as much as I wanted, whenever I was hungry!!! That's why it worked for me. Once the sugar was out of my system I didn't CRAVE anything!! Blood pressure and blood sugar back to normal!! Now,once a week I'll have one small treat if I'm missing it. My husband has always been super fit, never craved sugar but had a triple bypass 5 years ago. He has since cut out red meat and cheese, cardiologist's orders! Have a great time in Scotland! Best of luck with your weight loss journey!! I really enjoy your channel!

Just my opinion, but I do not think any diet that focuses on only one food type is healthy. Many will disagree and that's ok, just don't be mean; we are all different. I eat pretty much like you Teagarden, and that has enabled me to control blood sugar (T2D) and control blood pressure. Like you, I do not crave anything, but might have one small cookie on occasion and sometimes a small piece of potato. I'm 78 and I figure at this stage of life, whatever works is fine - I'm healthy. Just for info, husband is 82, hates anything green (but will eat broccoli and Brussels sprouts), loves sweets and eats plenty of those, and is not super fond of beef. He's healthy too. So, go figure.

Tim, as I listen to your video, I am struck by the deprivation mindset you are projecting. It’s easy to know the “shoulds” but wouldn’t it be interesting to look at what is missing in your life that food is filling? It seems like you’ve been through a lot of transition and building your new life which is huge and there may be some voids that need to be addressed that possibly you address with food. Is what you weigh is a reflection of what is weighing you down? So maybe focusing on the food, is the wrong approach? Why are you bored in the evening? Are you missing some social or emotional connection in your life? Self-care is much easier when we deal with our stuff. Just a thought. Go gentle and be kind to yourself.

I gave up mimosas after a health scare in 2021. I am at my ideal weight and feel great. I hike every morning with my husband and dog (my dog forces me outside). My only vice is pasta & bread. This year’s goal is to eat more salads and completely eliminate refined carbs (even though I don’t eat much). Good luck to you losing 5 pounds before your trip

I’m a carb addict and have been struggling since the Holidays. I cut it all out and went carnivore 2 weeks ago(I’ve been practicing keto for 5 years with the exception of slip ups from time to time) My lethargy is gone, my head is clear and I have more energy. I even went out and bought a rebounder which I love. I don’t need to lose weight but I need strength, build up my core and gain muscle. At 65 I need it. 😊

Hi, Tim! Oh, the cheese...I have also wrestled with cheese/dairy. I've been carnivore since April 1, 2023. I've kept notes each month so that I knew which changes I made along the way and what the effect (i.e. weight loss) was for that month. Most months I lost between 2 and 8 pounds. In October, I lost 11 lbs. ! What I notated about October was I walked 6 days per week for 30 min., consumed no cheese and ate only one, very large meal per day. Carnivore solved many problems for me, the least of which is my weight. As I loose the weight, it is slowing down, but carnivore works for me and I hope you'll continue to do whatever works for you! Have a lovely day, Tim!

I've lost 90 lbs on carnivore (with an occasional serving of keto veggies) and I'm still losing (25 lbs to go). Beyond any shadow of a doubt, the hardest part was mental. I am an emotional eater and boredom is an emotion. I reached a point where I stalled for over a year and wasn't losing anything until I was able to redirect myself to things other than food, to cope with boredom and other emotions.

The secret for me was omitting gluten and sugar from my diet. I was raised on homemade desserts so that was a hard one, but I was so unhappy with my appearance that it really wasn’t difficult to make these changes. I did that about five years ago. About two years ago I added IF. I don’t eat until 11:00 am or after. That was only difficult for 2 or 3 weeks. It didn’t take long after going almost gluten free that I saw results. That was so encouraging for me that it was easy to keep going. I lost about 25 pounds relatively quickly. Of course there are more details to my story, but this is really the formula that I follow and it’s worked for me.

I think the key is to find what works for you and what you like to do. I am a senior and had a 2 year illness and struggled to gain strength again. I went to physical therapy and a medical exercise program which help me get started. The biggest thing I learned was to pace myself and it was the key. I used to get up in the morning and do everything and then drop into my chair for the rest of the day and night. Now I set the alarm on my phone and never sit for more than an hour at a time. I also found that I don't like Any exercise but I like to work. I can paint my house, rake leaves, remodel houses, garden and do canning etc. Be honest with yourself, maybe you don't want to go to the Y, it sounds boring. What do you like? Fad diets don't work for me, but three meals a day and keeping trigger foods out of my house is the key. Don't buy the cheese, you can't eat it if it's not in your house.

The struggle is real and I admire you for taking a stand. I would also mention that for many people, we need a "why". For me that is wanting to keep my limbs, eyesight, other senses and mainly my mental faculties. There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing someone my age, I am 71, dealing with dementia but healthy otherwise. I tried intermittent fasting and the only way I could do it was to eat a high protein breakfast, skip lunch and eat dinner about 6pm. I found making certain daily foods mandatory no matter what else I ate, seemed to work. Example, everyday a handful of spinach and handful of broccoli. It is about adding good stuff rather than punishing yourself with restriction. You can still have cheese, just not everyday. Give yourself a one day I can eat cheese day. If you do eliminate dairy, you are going to have to get calcium other places as strong bones are very important especially over 50.
The making rules and throwing away food is setting yourself up for your teenage self to rebel. Lean into health Not all or nothing.

Oh boy! I relate to so much in this video... I was on a keto diet maybe a year and a half ago. I lost 25 pounds! And then at my doctor visit, I was told that this diet was a bad fit for me because of my thyroid. Well.... I am back up to 205 pounds again. So I tried intermittent fasting. I would have coffee in the morning and eat my first meal at noon. Then dinner in the evening.
Well, that crashed and burned during an extremely stressful year last year. The only thing I was able to stick to was not eating until noon. But really, with the stress eating during those 8 hours and not exercising, that does not work for losing weight. We retired about 3 months ago and I have plenty of time to get my act together, but have not. We are in Maui now taking a long awaited retirement trip and my legs sure are feeling it. I will be following this journey with you and for myself.

I have loved your videos ever since I discovered you maybe a year ago, whenever it was that you were purging your house. You are so real and so identifiable. I just stumbled upon this one this morning after not watching any in quite awhile. I felt like I was listening to myself! I too LOVE cheese and eat way too much. It’s my go to snack every day. Bad me. I’m not really overweight, but keep trying to lose the same 5-8 pounds. I love to go for walks (unless it’s too cold or too hot or rainy or windy). Sound familiar?
10 years ago, I attended a brief seminar given by a nutritionist named J.J. Virgin (yes, that’s her real name). She made some excellent points about diet and I have been mostly following her diet ever since. It’s one I found I could live with. No weird food, just basically eating healthy and discovering what your body can tolerate and what it can’t.
My weakest time of the day is also between 5:00 and bedtime every evening. That’s happy hour! But the best part of the diet is the protein shake I make and drink pretty much every single morning for the past 10 years. It fills you up and tastes good and is healthy.

Tim, I hate that elephant! Lol. You're fridge clean out was painful. So inspired by your resolve on getting rid of the gut. The snack attacks at night are something that I often struggle with along with that darn love of cheese. I've recently found a great little gym that offers swim classes, and all kinds of related gym and yoga, balance, etc. The pool is heavenly on the joints as it's salt water. I'm finding the more I exercise, especially in the pool, the more I'm not craving the food. Cheers and prayers for you to get to your goal and more before the big trip. 🙏

I’m working on a healthy lifestyle and believe that a little walking daily as the minimum rec is 150 minutes week along with reducing my portion size without total exclusion of anything helps me best. But you need to find out what works for you! Enjoy your travels next month and also this prep month now.

I’m 56, and I have been helping 4 people who are in their 80’s for the last 2 years. The ones who are in the best shape physically, and mentally are the ones who eat a very varied diet, small portions, have an occasional adult beverage, go to the doctor for everything that is wrong, and, they still exercise as much as they feel they can. They are always telling me about this class for seniors they used to take at our rec center. So I’d suggest, put an hour on your calendar, 3 days a week, to do something physical. Even if it’s just to walk around your neighborhood, at a pace faster than casual walking. By the time you get to Scotland, your body will appreciate the effort you put in now.
Schedule it, like it’s a part of your job. Put your walking shoes by the door so it’s easy to slip them on and go. Don’t think of it as exercise. Think of it as scoping out scenes for an upcoming photo shoot. Listen to a favorite podcast or CZcamsr. Use the time to accomplish two things. Your health, and a show you would be listening to anyway.
I can’t wait to hear about Scotland!

Elephant Greetings to you Tim! Trunk raised for good luck. You have inspired me to make a better effort to not gain more weight. A friend of mine lost fifty pounds over a year by following Dr. Steven Gundry. He has written several books, and is very interesting. My suggestions (easier said than done) would be to ease into intermittent fasting. Find a more manageable time period for eating. Think about it as detoxing instead of fasting. Eat with more variety when you do for your own happiness. Consider adopting a dog as a walking companion, and to share some of your table scraps. 😅😅

I appreciate your honesty about your weight struggles. I’m 62 and finding it so much more difficult. Used to be, I could just make a few changes for a week or so and lose 5 lbs. Now it’s so much more difficult! I keep telling myself (and ignoring, lol) to incorporate light weights into my life. We’ll see how that goes - sure can’t hurt! I’m also reducing cheese on my food but I don’t want to give up completely or I’ll just binge it later. Your trip sounds like a great motivation!

I retired several years ago but it took a long time for me to realize that I no longer need to eat breakfast right when I get up since I have a much more leisurely morning. Now I have a cup of plain tea and it holds me over until around 11:00. It is a big enough meal to get me to dinner which I have around 6:00. Then I am done eating for the day by 7:00. I do usually have some kind of fruit in between the meals though. I’ve heard about IF for years now, but never thought I could do it without feeling hungry (and grouchy) all the time. But- so far- the 16/8 is working for me. I do like a glass of wine before dinner sometimes but- for now- I’m cutting that out completely. Eventually I’d like to come up with an allowance for it. Maybe open a bottle once every other month and have a glass each day until it’s gone. Of course, when I do eat out- which is not very often- I’ll stretch the “rules” a bit.
I wish you the best of luck getting into a new routine.

Also very very dark chocolat, because it is healthy. No soft drinks. Dried fruits, sometime they are very expensive.

To me, half of the problem, is recognizing the problem.....and you do! That's the great news. You have a new plan and you can do this! A short term goal is a great start! Over the last year (yes, I'm 68) I have learned that almost ALL of the battle is in our mind. I have had to have many, many conversations with myself about not eating such and such, not eating when I'm not hungry, not licking my finger with the cake batter, only eating during my two hour window, etc etc. You CAN do this! I have also learned over time that we ARE a stubborn people - just get stubborn(er!) You got this!!

I do stick with just whole foods. All those processed foods are junk. I eat bacon and eggs for late breakfast then chops, steaks, or fish around 4 - 5 pm. The snacking thing is just a habit. I'm sure you will loose weight on vacation with all the activities. Carry on sir!

Do you feel healthy and have good energy? Walk and water. Can't go wrong with either of those. However, there are more weight loss suggestions for you than you have pounds. Continue to be active. That is your primary key. You will be surprised what movement will do for you and not just in weight loss. It is a lifestyle change you are looking for not a diet. Eat healthy. If you like cheese then make it a weekly treat. I lost 60 pounds just moving and eating better, and it has stayed off. Took me almost 2yrs but I did it. My food changes were, no processed food, no sugar (or very very little) and no refined carbs (muffins, donuts, bread). Good luck!

Hi, Tim -- This is the vegetarian, (new) intermittent faster (almost 70 and still working a high stress job) with an update. I started not eating after 5:00 PM on December 26th. I eat a plant-based diet (healthy fat 'n veggies, which includes goat cheese) and cannot believe the difference. I have gone from convex to concave and the brain is sharp and I move and think better and faster. I'm more impressed with that even than with the weight loss. I don't stress if it goes to 9 hours from first to last calorie instead of 8, and I am so productive in the evenings without that 3rd meal it's unbelievable. It's probably not for everybody, but it's amazing for me. I only made this one change so far. Good luck with your goals!

I stopped weighing myself. I even got rid of my scale. I go by how my clothes fit, if they are getting too tight then I eat less. When you get to your goal do not keep your bigger clothes, get rid of them asap. Having them in your home makes it to easy because in the back of your mind, you know you have something you could wear.
In the future donate foods to a pantry or to a local Church. Some Churches will take even the refrigerated items. Good luck on your weight loss journey, You can do it!

And watching you pour out the whiskey, yikes. And I have a drink at social events and after I shovel snow.
All the best luck to you.
I don’t even try to diet anymore. IBS my entire adult life, subacute thyroiditis since my 50’s and a damaged small intestine since my tubal ligation caused hernia. Only a two thirds liquid diet works. Ugh. Pass.

I feel your pain. I'm about 90% carnivore. I think that's classified as Ketovore. But who cares. I have lost almost 80 pounds but very slowly. I'm old. Giving up dairy helped a lot. The scale is moving in the right direction. The next thing that helped was increasing my fat macro. The results were surprising. It might help you give up snacking altogether. Put Kerry Gold butter on everything. It becomes your gravy or hollandaise replacement. You may find you are full longer.
    Best wishes!

Tim! We are twins! Here’s what I do and I lost 20lbs in about 3-4 months, 2 years ago!
1). No breakfast! I get ready for the day and I have to get busy! You should go on a walk!
    2) I eat my first meal around 1-2pm Usually meat or eggs or bacon. I cheat and put a “very little” shredded cheese in my eggs. I can’t help it!
    3) Drink water instead of looking for food! I bought a Stanley 48oz tumbler with a straw. Put some ice in it. Tap water is boring! I finish the water by night.
    4) 2nd and last meal by 7pm. More meat, salad with oil and vinegar and tiny cherry tomatoes. I love Chubby tomato’s and pieces of Red Peppers, tastier than green peppers. 🫑 only veggies! No croutons!!
    5) In the beginning, I’d have 2 piece of Doves Dark Chocolate squares. (Before 9pm!) as a reward! But now they are too expensive!
    6) Nothing more to eat until my first meal at around 1-2pm Not even one grape!! Drink water, instead!
Why don’t you get an Ebike and go for rides! Yes, you do peddle eBikes! Use the throttle on hills! Going for a bike ride will become a great addiction! Instead of grazing on cheese. In the evenings, get on You Tube and watch videos to research which size and brand is good for you! I can give you help with all that!!
This way of eating will give you results! I bet, after 4 days you will start feeling so much better and will start to love your new lifestyle! I did have headaches in the beginning, from giving up sugar (sodas for me), but they go away. Have you ever thought about getting an older, rescue dog? You’ll love walking your new best friend!! ❤
Once I got down to my ideal weight, I’d go out to have a good meal. Ex: On Wednesdays, Cracker Barrel has a Broccoli cheese casserole baked chicken dinner. The casserole is baked right on the chicken!! I’d get Green beans, broccoli or Carrots as my two sides, but no biscuits or corn bread!!! To help, I get my meals, to go and eat at home! You can see I had some things I shouldn’t have, but it still worked for me. After you see the success, you’ll want to eliminate the cheese in your eggs or chocolate squares, because you’ll want to. You have a goal and you can do those 5 pounds! Make yourself do this!! It can be done!! I did it!! You can, too!! I told myself I wanted to get fit, one more time in my life! I’ll be 73 in June! Good luck!!! 👍🏻 😊

I have given up trying to lose weight by “dieting”. I’ve been walking, doing cardio and just starting strength training. I am almost 60, take bp meds and my cholesterol has been on a roller coaster. I know I can fix this with better living because I have before. In addition to workout videos, I make it a point to study health related subjects so I know the why instead of just the how. Knowledge is Power. I believe I can speak for all of us when I say, “we have your back”.😊. By the way, I haven’t loss much weight, but do feel much better. I have more energy and sleep much better.
