    19:00 Mark, I do keep my babies and juveniles in a separate container once it comes time to clean out the adult bin and one reason for this is because I have heard the adults can eat the babies as a moisture source and I can keep track better how my colony is doing and I can grow out my juveniles and keep count of how many male to female ratio I'm adding back to the adult bin!!! I have 8 reptiles & for a while strictly kept Dubia’s as just food for them, But about a year ago I got excited because it looked like one of the females was about to have her babies so I isolated her in a small travel tank just to show my husband & he says to me She’s dead hun. I didn’t believe him but what I thought was babies were actually worms or some parasite that had crawled up in her & ate all her insides & was making its way back out to possibly do that to another. I gotta tell you I was so heartbroken! I started crying, but then that turned into anger & did more research, it appeared she was the only one but I had 1 more female & 2 males (extremely small collection at the time) , I promised them I wasn’t going to use them as food but give them as happy of an existence as I could , I had to feed 1 of the males to my dragon because he was beating up the other male & ripping his wings, plus they were in love & that roach was jealous of them, but after I got rid of the A-hole the 2 were so happy & immediately started having babies! I have probably about 200 Dubias that just started with the 2 love birds 😉 now & I still made good on my promise, Not one has been eaten yet…. But I found this video very informative! Thanks!

There is a concern that they may be unable to molt properly if they have too much calcium. Have you heard any of this and/or had issues with these with your colonies? There is so much conflicting information in this hobby. I appreciate you tubers like you, who set a high standard for animal care!

    • @fitodaking16
      @fitodaking16 Před 2 lety

      @@basedcanadian6869 that beardie will go thru them dubias quick. For dubias to start breeding and grow quickly, they will need a warm temperature, high humidity, and a lot of food. I always fed my dubias fresh produce. If you just keeping the dubias to feed your beardie, just keep them somewhere warm and dark. Feed them daily, enough for 1 day. Don't leave food in their bin, a lot of mold and worms will grow in their bin which will be bad. You can feed your beardie as much dubias as it can eat. I use to feed my bearded dragon dubias daily. Your beardie will thank you

      @@fitodaking16 thanks for that. I've done a lot of research on how to keep them. I'm getting 155 mixed as well as another 100 nymphs separately for feeders. I was wondering if 155 mixed was too much but it sounds like it could be a good amount to start a growing colony... if he eats 20 a day that's 600 a month 🤯.. maybe I need even more.. but I don't want the colony to explode to 100,000 lol

    • @fitodaking16
      @fitodaking16 Před 2 lety

      @@basedcanadian6869 the only reason why I got to 100k in a year was because I never fed the dubias to my reptiles. I only had the dubias for breeding. I fed some of my males to my reptiles but that's about it. Also, you need to decide if you want to do a 3:1 ratio or a 5:1 ratio. 3 females per 1 male or 5 females per 1 male. Since you don't want your colony to explode, I recommend you 3:1 ratio. If you want a lot of dubias like me, I would use the 5:1 ratio method. Also, try feeding the males off to your beardie, keep your females for breeding.

    I want to set up a colony for my jumping spiders and scorpions for the same reasons. I don't want to go buy crickets/roaches 2-3x/week. They're 13-25 cents//each here which isn't bad, but still. As you say, Covid and tornadoes and storms and... depression for me--those are a thing.

    I do wonder about the rotting food thing because roaches are supposed to be decomposer. I wonder if there is a good way to know how that actually affects them. Plus I didn’t know the protein thing was potentially poisonous, I just heard that it’s just not good for you to feed a high protein roach to your pet, but I have a Savannah monitor and a good source of protein is helpful.

    I am in awe of people who aren’t squeamish about bugs. I am trying to become a cool roach woman with her lizards all smiling behind her…the roaches just creep me out. 😬❤️🤪

    My local pet stores sell dubia roaches 25 count for like $8.99 my bearded dragon can eat all of these in two or three days. They are expensive in my area.

    I use chicken feed for substrate. It's cheap, lasts a long time, is full of calcium and the roaches eat it.

    How do you incubate them in a plastic bin? I'm nervous about plastic melting, and dont want them to burn. Would a reptile heating pad be too hot?

    Wow I've been looking at these videos all day and I just found your content absolutely outstanding, I'm sure you hear this a whole bunch anyway but you're absolutely beautiful, I just had to point that out it's very rare to see a very beautiful woman having interest in breeding cockroaches. A rare opportunity indeed, but yeah I know I'm looking at this to breed my own roaches I have a couple of lizards and stuff and I was thinking about making some side money with it so I'm glad I found your content hope to see more of it. I'll subscribe I'm already subscribed to a boatload of stuff so can't hurt nothing.

    Dubia roaches have a 72 hour (3 day) digestive track, so you can gut load for 3 days.

    Holy crap Kris,incredibly amazing what you have done.. super informative, hoping to hear more from you soon.. probably get a lot of this but you are incredibly beautiful,but more so,incredibly compassionate for what most people deem terrifying and disgusting.. (thier loss).. I live in Australia and as you may know, have an abundance of venomous animals.. what is your opinion on huntsmans? Most Americans find them scary and super bolty.. where are you from exactly?
    Ps,love your neck tattoos, extremely bold and very painful.. making you even more interesting.. thank you again for your contribution and passion..
