  • @dagfinnrapp7201
    @dagfinnrapp7201 Před 3 lety +1

    My guess is that, for overall driveability and performance in most conditions, the traction control system must not grab the brakes too hard when slipping. Otherwise, you may lose some forward momentum when accellerating on a slippery surface. Therefore, it makes sense for a car not to make it out of a 3-wheel slip test, without engaging som kind of "mode".

      @@twillias4714 on manual transmission and older models with a real limited slip differential and a traditional automatic - absolutely agree. On the new models with cvt transmissions -not so much. The initial torque limitations on the cvt transmissions severely impact off road ability in certain situations. Example? A dirt and gravel road with an uneven surface at a steep grade. In fact, TFL has a video that proves this.

      Negative. The Mazda’s AWD system is programmed to lock the wheels that are spinning so that power can be sent to the wheels with traction when you put it in the off road mode.

  • @Buc_Stops_Here
    @Buc_Stops_Here Před 2 měsíci

    I have learned since this was made that Mazda's "off-road" mode is actually sends power to all four wheels exactly like Subaru does. When he tried in normal mode, it primarily powers the front wheels for better gas mileage and barely does anything with the rear wheels. So the equivalent is like a FWD car in normal mode, and like a Subaru in off-road mode. Why it did better once it was turned on. Now knowing this from Mazda it makes perfect sense.

  • @roc9sy
    @roc9sy Před 3 lety +1

    I’m not bias toward either of these two, but folks are CLEARLY not paying attention by claiming the Mazda won. Both did about equally well until the 3 wheel slip test where the Nissan only got stuck once and needed no other mode to exit the 3rd test. The Mazda was stuck and only made it out because he pushed the off road button on the 3rd test, and then it slid off the rollers on the last test. Had it not slid off the rollers, it would have needed a push too. So technically the Mazda was stuck twice and needed a special off road mode and to slide off the rollers to exit the 3 wheel slip tests. Go back and watch the video and you will see.

      I switched from a ‘13 Rogue to an ‘18 CX5. The Mazda is better in every category including fuel mileage (187hp version) with the exception of cargo room. It’s not even close. I have driven newer versions of the Rogue as well and still the Mazda is such a better car. The handling, quietness, quality of materials and craftsmanship leads you to feel you are in a much more expensive car. My next car will likely be a CX9.
