APS is a dead film format that I wanted to try in 2017. The results weren't great. Spiritworld X Video • Embrace the Grain: Kod... .

I had a few rolls scanned on to my Kodak Photo CD's. It became a perfect way to explain the Crop factor and size difference of Full frame to crop frame sensors on DSLR's
I had one of those. Quality was surprisingly good for the format, and it had some quirky unique features. In the end it was just a stopgap measure before digital photography really took off.
I have an APS point and shoot in a box somewhere. I wish I could find it. It took me a bit to realize that the cropped APS-C sensor in my first Canon T3i was based on this film size. 24mm
Try having black& white prints made from the color APS film, I hear that works well.
Expired Fujicolor CN100 x12 exposures is a good alternative
I still use the Aps format, love the system please continue to use this system. Looking forward. Set EV +2 always for better results
+2 is teh only way to go.
Wonder if there is a way to reload the cartridge since they can be easily opened? Anyone tried putting other negative stocks in it or even reversal stocks?
That would be nice
I have the Contax Tix. It's a lovely little gem of a camera, and it has exposure compensation that I can leave set on +1 EV. It's a shame that there is only expired film available now, but some people love shooting on expired film, just to see what effect comes out and what they can do with it. I reckon I might as well shoot it now while I can, because with the passage of more years the film situation is only going to get worse, not better.
I've got a TiX too. About to finish my first roll of +2 EV Fujifilm Nexia. Hoping for some usable results. Care to share some of the results you've been getting?
Hi, I dug up a Kodak Advantix from my parents basement and Im curious to see what kinds of a photos it will produce. Do you have any sites to recommend when buying APS film? Also, I am new to photography.
I buy expired film online. I think there are a handful of projects where there is new film but it's expensive.
I have an APS Kodak Advantix film that I used like 15 years ago and I have never processed it, but it was kept away from sun and it was its cover and I really want to process this film, it's marked as fully exposed . Can you help me please ?
Going to need to find someone to do color push processing for you. If you’re in the states Old School Photo Lab provides the process, but I’d find a local shop who may still be developing in house and describe the issue. Results are going to be mixed.
I have a few APS cameras. My favorite is a Minolta Vectis SLR.My results with the film have been similar to yours. It's been my experience that black and white film lasts longer than color.I once used a roll of TRI X that expired in 1968 and it came out good.My results with expired color film have been mixed at best.
+M Poole it's a bummer the film acted like that for you too. The vectis can compensate for underexposure as well!
I have the vectis s-1 as well, it is an awesome camera. Colour negative film for me almost always comes out well, as long as you overexpose 1 stop for each decade it expired plus one additional stop. This is very important!!!
Aps is way bigger than 110, in fact the modern formats like aps-c aps-h are derived from the aps format.
hey! do u know what battery this camera needs? i recently thrifted this but it came without a battery.
You can look up the battery in the cameras manual, a lot are scanned online. Also old product listings should say something about it.
hey i live in austin as well!
How about the pictures from the A6400 compared to pictures from APS film?
A6400 would be much better just due to film being really bad now
Aps was discontinued in 2011, not 2006.
Thanks for the shout out!
+Spiritworld X no worries man! Glad you're out there making stuff.
I remember APS, the cameras were kinda cool because they were small and sci-fi ish, other than that the 24mm film system was crap, geared toward people who didnt know any better. It never really caught on and died at the hands of the digital age. I have one around here somewhere.
Agree, people who were alive and shooting film during that era aren't very keen on this. Thanks for the comment.
APS is 24mm Bigger than 110
Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of wrong information in this video. First of all, APS film was discontinued in 2011/2012 and not 2006. Then, APS format has nothing to do with 110 Format, the negatives of APS have almost the size of standard 135 film. Also, overexposing expired film helps a lot with colour shifting. Even fresh film has shifted colours when underexposed. With APS, it is really worth buying a camerea, they are not necessarily expensive, were you can overexpose the film by a fiew stops. If you would have shot your 400 ASA film from the video with 50 ASA, you would have gotten good images with a lot less colour shifting. Overexposing film by the correct amount (1 stop for every 10 years the film expired plus 1 additional stop if it is negative film) does the trick in 90 % of the cases. To mee, Shooting expired film with a camera where you can´t compensate fot rhe film´s age is more or less pointless. Still, nice camera and video!
Nice tip, camera I have doesn't have exposure compensation so it's auto everything. There are a couple of cameras that do have it though.
how do u convy the aps to normal photo?
You’ll need to develop and scan images digitally. Most film processors can do that.
APS really is not worth it for most people. But if you're priced out of T2's & T3's, and want a nice quality compact take-everywhere camera then you really should try the Contax Tix. The cold-stored fujifilm out there is still pretty good. If anything, experiment with it, but the Zeiss image quality is definitely there.
+thnikkamax man, i was thinking about that for months because they are around 150$ right now. But if the film is this bad I’m not sure I could make it work.
Shawnee Union check out APS Film Users group on Facebook, someone just posted examples of Tix and Voigtlander VXG 200 film, really nice shots. Best bang for buck film too.
Spirit is dope
No one wanted to use APS when it was introduced (cost more than 35mm; lower quality images; no practical user processing or printing). One of those several Kodak moments in the history of film photography where all the benefits flowed to the film maker and processor, and no benefits flowed to the user. APS was, I think, the shortest film format life from intro to official termination of production. You can still buy fresh film on Amazon and process at Walmart, if you can find a reason.
+Randall Stewart I'm not sure how fresh the film would be but I'm not expecting much out of this system like you hit on.
Last film was made in 2014, should have expired in 2016. Plenty of guarenteed film on ebay, relatively cheap.
Best cameras for it are the Nikon SLRs (Pronea S, 6i, 600i) which will take their own IX or any Nikon autfocus and ai lenses, or the Canon IX, IXe, or IX lite SLRS, which take EF lenses (not EFs).
I already bought 5 rolls because so curious, but then I saw this video and comments its like dissapointed... i am so saaaaad.
+abiyoga pamungkas try it out, it looks ok and you already have the film.
Ok I will try at least one. thankyou so much for the review:)
Crappy system is crappy.
If you want negatives of that size and more snaps per roll then buy a halfframe.
+Helge Frisenette agreed. Most likely the direction that I go.
