i wish kawasaki had some other bikes with this styling, if the ninja 400 looked more like this id have definitely gone for it 🥲 im so glad bikes like this have full effort put into them by manufacturers, ive been so happy with my R15 and i think so many people undervalue these kind of bikes (especially in the US) because theres an impression that theyre just too small when for many things theyre totally adequate 😄 ive never seen another r15 (v3) on the streets here which makes me sad cuz its sooo much more affordable than anything else with equivalent sports styling

My first bike was back in 1996 and was a Yamaha TZR125 YPVS two stroke, which had almost 29bhp and did several times, just over 100mph (but only just). Small two strokes are seriously powerful compared to four strokes.
If you can find a big two stroke, like a 400cc, then try and have a go....they are mental even today 🙂

Go to your local dealers' and sit on one. Ask 'em if you can stay on it a while. You want to be in the correct riding position, hands on bars, wrists loose (I've been told forearms parallel to the ground, but I'm not 100% on that), right foot on the peg, left foot on its peg if they're good with that (your weight will be held up only by the side stand, unless they have a paddock stand strong enough).
You want to chill like that for at least a good half hour. If nothing aches - you're good to go.
If-and however you can't stand up properly after sitting on the bike for half an hour, I'd ask them to point you to something with a more upright riding position.
That said, I would generally advise against a 125 outside of L-plate use for the simple reason that they get quite viby at regular road speeds. It's just the nature of one cylinder engines. They put balance shafts in them and mount them on good dampers, but there's only so much you can do. It's not impossible to tour or take long trips on one - I used to do it when I still wore an L-plate, but my arse and legs would go completely numb from the vibrations after no more than an hour at or above 50mph. Not a problem for city use, but outside of that I'd be thinking about something a bit smoother, that won't have to be sitting so close to its redline at regular road speeds.

I bought a second hand Mash 125cc 7 black series as my first bike 12 months ago. It’s a great learner bike and the low cost means you don’t worry too much about it getting a bit knocked about.

  • @233kosta

Did my CBT about the time you posted this video. I really liked the look of Honda's neo retro 125 (CB125R), but ultimately decided against on grounds of cost. The intention was always to do DAS unrestricted as soon as I was ready (that's how I ended up with that 125's 650cc sister).
I was only on the 125 for about four months (did about 3000 miles). In hindsight, buying new was probably not a great idea.
If you expect to be on your 125 for a while (say long enough to be re-doing a CBT), then the equation changes completely. In that case I probably would have sprung the extra cash for the one I preferred the look of.
But yeh, as you said, 125s are more or less all as good as each other, build-wise.
P.S.: Yes, I did tour on my 125. I also regularly took 300 mile round trips to see family (any weekend I could get away with).

I’ve been thinking about getting a motorbike license but I would be stuck with a 125 for a while until I can legally get more. Is it worth it or should I wait till I can get a 400

    • @233kosta
      @233kosta Před 5 měsíci

@@gibmeister5854 Even a 125 is heaps of fun. I'd use that time to get as good as you can get, including smooth throttle and brake inputs. Then when you get the 400, the extra power will only ever be nice. It won't be overwhelming. Because you'll know exactly how to handle it.
Try your hand at moto gymkhana too, it's super fun!

Whats the price on these? I wish they sold these in the states. I only ride around for errands/commuter type stuff these days, I have a 650,636,r6,150cc scooter and 250cc bike. Guess which ones I ride the most? the 250cc and the 150cc scooter, light as hell and they get me like 60-80 MPG. I had a cheap Kymco 125 before that i loved as well but the quality wasn't there and it was a bit too tall, like dirt bike tall. A Kawi 125 I imagine would feel just right.

I'm actually on the fence between a kawasaki ninja 125 and a KTM RC 125 , since we can ride these in belgium without having to do CBT or whats it called , a normal car licence allows us to ride 125's and also NO TAXES! so thats a win win in my book
only thing thats keeping me away from the Ninja is the Rev limiter that limits its max speed and the thin rear tire , if you see this standing next to the KTM its a night and day difference seeing both bikes from the back. this should have had at least a 140 rear tire or a 150 like the ktm
but the old RC's are not available anymore brand new , a trusted dealer we know has one in stock second hand 2 years old with low milage , but with the januari sales that Kawasaki is doing i can get a ninja brand new for only 700 euro more over the KTM ...
