      @@callanhunt877 I was terrible with my CBT I could barely even balance the bike I couldn't work the gas and honestly I was horrendous I even crashed to the fence and all they did was made me come back the next day and do it again and they gave me a certificate. Fisher technically be impossible to fail I was probably the worst there I don't think anyone saw anyone is bad as me and honestly I got through it I don't know how but I did and I shouldn't have but I did.

    The kill switch doesn't cut off the battery from the bike, it stops ignition but it doesn't cut the battery off since your lights and everything still work. In case of an accident if you kill switch, you'll be visible but the engine is off.

    You don't really _have to_ engine brake on a big bike either. In fact the advanced riding stuff I'm reading rn recommends that you don't purposely downshift to do that (they also recommend using your discretion at all times lol). But you *can* and it'll do a lot more on a big bike than it would on a 125.

    Great vid! Maybe worth mentioning that some bikes stall when you put them I to 2nd gear if you're not going fast enough. Yamaha's ys125's for example, you'll need to be driving about 10 mph before shifting into second. :)

    only way to steer a bike is to counter-steer, there is no other way to turn, its only more or less pronounced at different speeds, but you are always shifting the centre of mass of the bike the to the side you want to go, by steering the wheel in the opposite direction first, there is no other "normal" steering

    After driving/cycling for 33yrs I'm getting into biking. Though the CBT did not go well: Handling, clutch control, manoeuvres were great on a carpark but on a quiet road I did not have the coordination to work all the controls. Had to think about each step of the gear change & bike control suffered & I became very nervous -ended up pressing right foot to speed up or both feet to cruise along. Going back for 2hrs to finish CBT, do you have any advice? thanks

      Fixed coordination by pretending go through gears on a stationary cycle everyday for a week & today 2nd time on a bike did not have think about it. Just passed CBT in the rain :)

      Late comment, but oh well. I was struggling too, and still am. For me it helps to remember that before I do most stuff I either slowly roll on the throttle while releasing the clutch, or I slowly roll off the throttle while pulling in the clutch. That goes for starting a bike, slowing down, breaking,gearshifting, etc..

    I need some help. I am pretty new and I only have one problem. The problem is downshifting. When I downshift it feels and sounds as if something is grinding. What are the possible mistakes I am doing?

    • @friendlysnoworb6091
      @friendlysnoworb6091 Před 8 měsíci

      either not pulling the clutch in fully, or not pushing your gear lever down far enough when you downshift. you most likely are only getting the lever 90% of the way, so the gears will grind until they move themselves into the correct gear.

      it's more difficult because the motorbike is slanted into your leg as you attempt to lift your leg over, meaning you have to pick your leg up higher.
      makes it more likely you catch something and fall/pull the motorbike over

  • @MK-jp6cc

    So In shifting gears down as a novice, you just hold on the clutch and shift down the gears and then let go of the clutch and that’s it the bike will be fine ?

    • @GoblinRides
      @GoblinRides  Před 3 lety +13

      Yeah that's it, here's a more detailed run down:
      Stopping - If you're coming to a stop, start applying the brakes (Left hand + Right foot), then pull in the clutch lever, as you slow the bike, start hitting the gear lever down to 1st gear (Left foot), and hold the clutch lever in. In order to let go of the clutch lever at a stop, lift the gear lever half way between 1st and second gear to put the bike in neutral, then you can let go of the clutch without the bike stalling.
      Pulling off - If your about to pull away from a stop, pull in clutch, press down on the gear lever for 1st gear, then gently let go of the clutch until the bike starts pulling forward, then add a little throttle (left hand) to start accelerating. Then to up shift, let go of throttle, pull in clutch lever, then shift the gear lever up all the way past neutral to second, let go of the clutch lever, and use throttle to go faster. You can apply the same technique for the rest of the gears, however if you're just starting off, just try getting used to 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, as you can use all three going less than 20mph. I hope that helps :)

      @@ominous5359 "dumping" the clutch is basically releasing it as quickly and sharply as you can. It's not good for the engine, it's not good for the gearbox, it's not good for the clutch and on a bike - it's not good for your body either.
      Its job is to smooth out the engagement or rather to let you smooth it out until engine and gearbox turn as one. If it is used abruptly, at best it will unsettle the bike, but it's more likely to just break the rear wheel loose. That could quite easily have you eating asphalt.
