@nine tailed I've never known men to base their thoughts off of emotions. I'm not saying one gender is better than the other, but do some research and you will find out that the average male uses logic to explain their thoughts and decisions while women use emotions. Both are very powerful ways to express one's understanding, but because they are opposite, it is why most women and men have a hard time understanding each other.
@Darth Revan I've noticed men often mistake not having to obfuscate emotion for having more emotions or valuing emotions too highly. It probably doesn't help that men statistically struggle to read female microexpressions.

Well...I agree with Henry. If you perceive them as ugly, then there is no attraction. It may seem shallow, but it's what animals do too. They have to first be physically attracted to the other person, or at least what their individual idea of attractiveness is.
And what will make a relationship last is:
1. the morals: what you have in common,
2. maturity: learning things together,
and 3. growth: going through hard times and being there for each other.
If you initially perceived them as your definition of ugly, then personality won't make you stay if there are things about their appearance that revolt you. You may distant yourself from being too physical because of this. It may hurt the other's feelings, because they can go out and find someone who will be attracted to both their appearance and their personality. They don't deserve to feel like they are pitied.
But this can backfire the other way too. If you are only together because of your physical attraction for one another, but have conflicting morals, little maturity, and absolutely no growth as a couple, then there is no longer any attraction. Not even your lust for their body will save the relationship.
You as a person (if you don't want to be single) need to find someone where you are both physically attracted to, but can also be comfortable being with, and feel you can love forever, and live a long life with.
People shame each other for wanting a partner that they can find attractive, they say that's too shallow and you should look for what they have inside, not out. But that is hypocritical, because no one would be happy in a relationship with a person they wouldn't want to see *naked* . It's not shallow, it's looking for the ideal mate. It's natural. It's how evolution works.
