respect to Ms. Scott for having sharp eyes and finding those priceless antiques
only held on by a peg buttonhole? i guess you never mess with what works, especially as there’s no moving parts that could break- unlike buckles
Leather is stiff; keeps it on.
I was told by my parents that my dad started me on horse back riding when I was 4 years old. Over the years I've broken wild horses, riding green broke horses, training some horses and riding and working with horses now for some 45 years. I never used spurs and never needed them.
They really aren't in vogue anymore.
@@ArizonaGhostriders In my life I've had a few horses of many, who needed the added motivation provided by spurs, Not something I use on every horse though.
You just brought back some memories. We would have to bring some heavy old handmade chairs into the house while visiting and the legs had divot marks all over the legs. Us kids were told that they were bear chew marks from short bears. Handholds for rattle snakes to climb them. All kinds of stuff. Come to find out they were rowel marks made by the hands when they sat at the table. One of the things in which that older generation still took for granted and thought funny we didn't know rowel marks when we saw them. Remember take your spurs off when you enter a house!
Yes! Watch out for stairs.
I come in by the door (getting to old for the window 😝). Have multiple spurs and straps, depending on witch pair of boots and what I’m doing. Great video as always. 🤙🏼❤️🇺🇸🤠
LOL! Thanks.
Too old for the window. A man of taste. Drinks up to you cowpoke
I'm not too worried about coming in through the window, but I'm for sure to old to have to leave that way any more, besides it's not dignified to go out a window with your boots in your hands.
@@joecuppko40uh29 😆😁😄😉👍🏼❤️🇺🇸🤠
Well. Got my AZ Ghostriders video fix for this Saturday. Now I can head out and do some yard work. 😎
Just kind of wish it was longer so I could put that work off for a little longer time. Thanks for the video. Have a good weekend man. 😎
LOL! Yeah....!
Just watch several times ......

@@squiblift2019 Thanks!
Always wanted to make my own leather products. But I do like my spurs
They are a good place to start.
It's crazy to imagine how much effort went into furnishing clothes and everyday tools, on the frontier of the old west.
Hello Santee just want to say i’m 12 yrs old and in love with with western history and I just want to say I love your videos and i would love to see some of the reenactments you do. I also love that your keeping the spirit of the old west alive!!
Thank you!
Wanted to stop by & say thank you for doing these videos. They've been incredibly helpful for me doing my character & my old west photography.
You're welcome. Much appreciated.
Nice job Santee, your spur straps came out great!
-Jed 🤠
Glad you like 'em!
I made a pair a few years ago for my SASS persona, I need to make a couple more sets of them. Fun project to use up some of those smaller pieces of leather. Your spurs MUST have "dingle bobs" on them! Great video Santee!
Yeah, man!!
Well done. Love the ending part. There's two types of Spurs
Thank you!
Thanks agsin Santee & Co. Nice work ! I make some simple items of leather , like knive sheaths and such . The last leather item I created was a cartrige holder for six .308 Winchester shells . Now I'm working on a holder for .223 Remington shells .
Thank you! Have fun creating!
I love Will Ghormley's patterns. Looks like I'm gonna have to get the spurs strap pattern. I made a real fancy set from a Springfield Leather Co pattern. I laced the edges and it took me forever!
I've laced things before and concur. It does take forever!
@@ArizonaGhostriders It sure does. I did two gunbelts, one buckstich and one double loop lacing, took me ages. But I do like the finished look.
I posted a pic of it over on your facebook page. They turned out nice, but I'm in no hurry to do it again!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I always appreciate the videos Arizona GhostRiders produce on simple tools/add-ons for Old West enthusiasts. The video on the hat bands was another one of my favorites. 👍🏼 Keep up the GREAT WORK of reminding the digital public of our rich Old West history. Thank You again, and Happy Trails To You.
Thank you! You as well.
Bought myself some spurs in Tombstone!
Nice
I’ve always been a huge fan of metal work and smithing, makes sense to start looking at something fancy to hold it
Cool!
I never knew or even really paid attention to the Spurs on the cowboys. I just thought well they went to a store and got them where they got their clothes in the hat. But really interesting and informative thank you for sharing. 🤠🌵
You're welcome.
Nice! Love your crafting videos, not too deep on the how to, but deep enough to let us know where to get what we need so that we can do it too. thanks Santee.
Ok thanks!
Love your videos Santee keepin the old west alive!!!
Thank you!
Hand made ! Thats is very smart made and with very skills hands too do it ! Thanks for sharing and have great weekend Santee.
Thank you!
Enjoyed learning about stirrup straps. Thanks Santee!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Been waiting on this one. Now I just need a horse! Thanks, Santee!
Any time!
Just finished making my spur! Can’t wait to wear
Good luck!!
Genuinely fascinating. Thanks, Santee.
My pleasure!
Spurs and spade bits. Two of the most misunderstood items of the west. 💛
Yes
Absolutely love your new spur straps! Thanks for the video. Now I need to make some.
Cool!
Cool and tanks for the awesomely great video. I think I’ll add spurs to my book set in the old West in 1885 and the new old West in 2067. Since those are the two years my book takes place in
Thank you!
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks and your welcome 🌟😎 I’m actually working on the plot for my book and gathering more plot ideas to tie the plot together
Another excellent piece, Santee! You are quiet handy with the leather work...
Very well done Santee! Great craftsmanship. I do need to oneday get some of Will Ghormleys patterns. Cheers!
Go for it!
I adore these! Have you ever considered making these for sale? Maybe make them ghostrider branded straps and holsters etc. as an extra way to get some pocket funding for the group/channel? I know I for one would be honored to own a Santee made set of spur strapz
Thanks. I"ll certainly give it some thought!
Ha ha thought for a min no AGR logo. Not disappointed on the window... Nicely done lots of research! !!
Thank you! LOL!
Thanks for this Santee, I’ll be looking at making some once I have some spurs
great!
My favorite pair go under boot and buckle in the front. Took a.few tries to get them right, but they are uniquely mine. Other sets are more trail style. But they all are fun.
Yes they are. Love to see a photo of the unique ones you mentioned.
Thanks santee I finally got the video I asked for and it was great just like all the other ones you've done
You're welcome.
They turned out real nice.
Thank you!
The spurs are so awesome!
Thank you!
Este canal es magnífico. Descubrimos todas esas curiosidades que nos rondan por la cabeza😊

Good morning Santee these came out so good with the wallnut oil., and they actually look easy to make even for someone like me : thanks mate
Glad you like them!
@@ArizonaGhostriders +love them very much i might have to make some just for my converse shoes :)
thank you santee i was just going to get a spur strap and i guess i make my own spur strap!
Worth a try.
Great job my friend. That dye really made them look period aged.
Thank you! Cheers!
Cool video. Leather working is a dying art!
You think so? I think you'd be surprised how many folks do leatherwork.
@@ArizonaGhostriders There does not seem to be many people, in Georgia, who do leather work, or have leather shops. As compared to 30 years ago! I am sure there are a few, doing specific items (holsters, saddles, boots, belts, etc.) but they are hard to find, here, now. I have always wanted to learn. I picked up a bunch of tools at a yard sale, this year, but have not had time to work on a project.
Another good video. Thank you I appreciate you.
You're welcome.
Just now getting into working with leather, should be fun!
These are pretty basic, no sewing or riveting, etc.
But, they can really get advances!
To me, it's Lots of fun, and every time I watch one of Santee's videos, I want to start a new project!
Thats a beautiful set of spurstraps - darn it - i need to get me a pair of spurs now. Keep up the amazing work you do Santee :D :D
Thanks a bunch!
very good looking
Thank you!
You’re good Santee!
Thank you!
Thank you for the video! 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
No problem!!
This is so cool. 👏🤠👏
Thank you!
Great job!👍🏾😀❤️🇺🇸
Thank you!
Very awesome and very informative video, I really liked and enjoyed it. As always I learned more about the old West for my book old West odyssey and chatanooga Kennacott lake chronicles I’m writing and will be publishing
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks 🌟😎
Off to watch The Culpeper Cattle Company, haven't seen it in years.
Great flick!
great video Santee... my grand dad always told me, "you can tell a lot about a man by the way he carries his money"... how bout a a video on wallets money clips or whatever was used in the old west... or maybe a tutorial on making a leather wallet....thanx !!!
I have a request for wallets...but never thought about making one....Hmmm!!! Thanks.
Ive never done much learher work but cool set up u made there
Thank you!
There really good mate
Thank you!
Fantastic as always Santee. Thanks Mate. P.S G’Day from Down Under
Glad you enjoyed it
Strapping good video sir.
Thank you!🤠
Hey Santee, I’d really like to see a video about engravings on firearms in the old west
Certainly.
Morning Santee
Hello
Nice leather work. Everyone remember to size those spurs right, ill-fitting spurs are a danger to life and limb. If they don't fit right, don't wear 'em.
Great tip!
There’s two kind of spurs, there’s those in door, and those in the window!
Yep
Great content, Santee. I wonder if you have a vintage holster and a Colt Single Action too...
Both!
Your channel really has blown up! What strategy did you use to get these awesome videos out there?
I post them in a lot of social media sites.
Hey Santee! My youngest son loves wearing his spurs on his cowboy boots. I am just a little concerned about him wearing his spurs when we go out shopping. I worry about someone running into the spurs with their cart or him getting caught on some store display set up in the aisle! I guess I am just a cautious Mama! Thanks for another great video. Take care & God bless!
Yeah, stairs are also not fun for anyone wearing spurs.
Walk down backwards!
A common leather dye at the time was tobacco. Soak a twist ( about 1 box of regular snuff) in alcohol for a week pour through a coffee filter and wear gloves latex or rubber as nicotine is a potent poison add salt or alum as a mordant. Using gloves and a swap apply it to a piece of leather. If need be thin with alcohol. When happy with the dry color, apply to your piece and oil or use a leather finish to your work.
Good extra info. There were lots of things used for dyes. I'll probably do a video on it one day. I think the natural dyes have better color variations.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Yep, they look better and fade different from modern dyes. I do my own leather work for re-enactments and use older dyes.
@@kirkmorrison6131 Cool! It's a good feeling to make and wear your own rigs.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Yep, and it isn't that hard to do and it is fun.
@@kirkmorrison6131 Right!
Mexican spurs are quite small and blunt and Chilean spurs are very large and a bit sharp
In Mexico, some spurs can cost more than 300 pesos, which is about 14 dollars
I'l take a set at that price!
New weekend, next uploaded video 📹 Great 😊☺ Thanks for this. 🙏🏼
Happy 😊☺ peaceful and blessed Caturday and weekend.
Love 💟 and Light 🕯
Sabi and family 👪
Humans and furries. 💫🐝
Thank you! You too!
If I would have thought about it I would have sent some of the pictures that I have that I made
If you haven't already could you please do a video on nicknames of famous frontiersmen
I have done one on nicknames.
I made some spur straps recently because my other ones didnt look nice with the color of my boots
It happens!
Hey Santee, could you do a special that honors the legends like Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp, Billy The Kid and Jesse James?
Certainly.
Hey Santee, how bout a video on whips in the West?
WIll do!
That was a strapping good video. I could tell it wasn’t done in the spur of the moment
Yes it was. Glad it got your stamp of approval.
(drum roll)
This brings back memories from many years ago when I took a leatherworking class at a Tandy leather store. For those that don't know that's the same Tandy that was behind Radio Shack, and Tandy Leather is still around, so if you want to get materials to make your spur straps that's one place to go. tandyleather.com/
Yes. I should say, they have gotten a lot of flack over the years for their tanned leather quality not being as good as it once was, but it's still a great place to go for tools and leather dyes.
I've never ever worn spurs. I only used my boney ankles! ha ha ha ha
LOL!
Cool!👍…I just need to find a horse now✌️😳🙏!
Walmart has 'em.
Just kidding.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Better take a bag of quarters with you.
We need more of ghost santee 😂
He is Bill Brazelton, stagecoach robber from 1878
This is awesome!! Hey santee, where did you get your boots from? Ive been wanting to put together some boots that are close to Arthur Morgan’s haha
My boots are from Wild West Mercantile.
Could you do a video on decor in the old west? I felt like you’ve done this but I couldn’t find anything on CZcams about it.
Sure. Any particular decor?
@@ArizonaGhostriders maybe how things were laid out, or something every household had(other than Bibles and guns of course) but in general I suppose just the designs or trends of tables, curtains, and etc. things of that sort. Thanks for getting back to me.
I can’t think of a funny comment, so I’ll just say good video and thanks 😊
You're welcome.
Sneaking around with spurs on?! Nah... or eating at the dinner table, chair will get scraped up. Good video!
LOL!
Where did you get your tall boots? I can't seem to find any round toes, they're all the very large square toed ones
Mine are square toes. Made by Boulet.
Great job what's that walnuts stuff you use to Stian the straps
Walnut powder. Some woodworking shops would carry it.
I'm going to make a bad ass music video about Santee. Its gonna be cool
Yowza!
