- In this video, Pat shows how he makes his favorite style of spur strap. And since it's a fairly long process, there were several stories told during the process. I hope you enjoy this little window into our lives. For more information, visit our website, www.thedisciplinedride.com . Wisdom of many candles accompanied by sense of wit and humor are needed more and more in this world. Much appreciated.
I liked hearing you talk about the Dorrance brothers. I didn't know either of them personally. After Tom died, his wife bought one of my good horses. She was a good rider.
I'd rather watch Pat cut leather, hear his jokes & stories, and hear y'all laugh than 99% of the other stuff on the Tube. Blessings to y'all!
I sat right here and did some saddle work and put some spur straps on while I was watching you and just listened to you guys. Super fun and really loved the jokes. Especially the one with the jacket backwards ;) I always learn something from you and I usually get a good laugh too. Deb, I LOVE my trail saddle. Worth every penny, beautiful and will last for my granddaughter when I get through with it. I can't recommend it enough to all my friends. I also LOVE the Missing Link snaffle. My big bay mustang really responds to it and I always get the message from her when she's rolling it. Great tack and thank you so much.
Someday, somewhere, someone...is gonna make a story about some guy named Pat Puckett ...A movie maybe...Much love and appreciation.
Many thanks to you both. God bless
High end ! Yeh !
Love the practical no bull way of you both
My grandfather gave me a Tandy Leather kit when I was a kid in the 80’s. I have been working leather ever since. I’m fortunate enough to live 15 minutes away from Maverick Leather in Bend Oregon. They mostly sell online but they have an excellent warehouse with boxes of scrap leather they sell by the pound. I love spending time in a warehouse full of leather. My parents took me to Chuckie Cheese for my fourth birthday and that big rat scared the heck out of me.
Nice to see another fella who’s lady companion allows leather work at the kitchen table. Thanks for all the good videos. All the advice makes sense especially after you try it and it on your own horses and it works like a charm.
Guaranteed 50% of “ makers “ don’t know about those little tabs. This was medicines for this old boot maker, thanks and happy Easter four you three, k
And we all know Deb is the best
Thank you for the video. Informative and you made me laugh. Love the stories. Tabor City, NC
What a great video to wake up to on this beautiful Easter morning! Love your "true" stories Pat .
Happy Easter to you both and thank you so much for doing these videos .
If you use latigo or another type of oil tanned leather, instead of veg tanned, your straps will last longer and won't stretch.
I would listen Pat's stories for hours and hours.
Thanks for these times being able to sit around your table and chat. Sometime if you think about it, it would be fun to see up close Pat's patented top secret stirrup topper that hooks to the stirrup hobble and under the stirrup hinge to prevent getting hung up on the panel rail. I've not done a ton of corral work horseback so I would like to understand the danger Pat talks about. Thanks from Idaho Falls, ID.
Always great to laugh along with you both. That is a sweet pocket knife! (I always had one in my pocket as a kid, something that came from my Grandfather teaching me to "whittle" whistles .) I still cannot resist a pretty pocket knife. A video on knife sharpening would be so valuable. Great stories from your life and a few jokes from your kitchen , just made my day!
Happy Easter from Tatamagouche, NS
Like your videos 👍
Sure enjoyed watching & stories. Thanks
Thank You,
for letting the world know your Knowledge
Pat is a national treasure!
Really enjoy watching your guys videos 😊
I have put together, staple pouches and small medicene bags from worn out Tony Llama, shafts and a bits from the scrap pile. Bits of latigo and a little hardware. I like the way you have these straps, hardware less. Cheap enough to replace when needed.
The boss at the Pitchfork south of Laramie didn't have Rainbow Bar to find day workers & irrigators.
Always said his employment agency was exit 313 on I-80.
I asked him once when he was going run into town and pick up the sheepherder from the rooms above the Buckhorn bar. He'd been on vacation for a couple weeks.
"He's not broke yet," he said.
. . .
"Most of the people I worked with are dead, or doin' time."
Priceless stories, and a handy strap, Pat. Thanks.
Thank you for getting my Easter Sunday off to a good start. I love Pat's sense of humor, the little quirks here and there, I.e. the Bermuda Triangle, taxidermist/funeral home. Love your videos. And you Deb, you do a good job operating the video camera. HAPPY EASTER PUCKETT'S

Hello 👋 how are you doing!!?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and the stories!
Hello 👋 how are you doing!!?
I just finished a set of straps myself. Wish they would have only taken an hour. Customer had some antique mexican spurs and no straps. I made a set of high end fully flower tooled, lined, hand stitched, dyed, and oiled. They're beautiful (and very expensive) but in the end probably don't function much better than yours.
Love the story telling as well.
Great info. Thank you. Happy Easter 🕊️
Happy Easter and fun video !
Love your wisdom .
Great stuff ❤
Them old style straps beat all. Been doing that for 20 some odd years now, and can't recall a single time I've missed having buckles... but, I can name quite a few times I was sure glad I didn't.
Happy Easter, best wishes from Eastern Oregon
Excellent video, Pat & Deb. Thanks for the pointers and the jokes.
Good morning and Happy Easter!Pat, II could listen to your stories all day and especially around a campfire at night. Deb, I have the same Pioneer Woman bowls I see in your cabinet. 😊 Love you both. Melissa from NY

I like that quality work high end no ink mark . This is a fun video. I heard the remark in didn't use to bother you before. 🤣
Love this thank you for sharing and for being real. Do you happen to have a template to these spurs?
I think the secret to making good cuts is holding your mouth in the right position....lol...love the videos Pat keep em coming
Always enjoy your videos. Who made your boots?
That is pretty good! If you dampen you edges you Can edge them better
Bunkhouse leatherworking 101. My only vulgar displays of wealth are a couple of Jeremiah Watt spur buckles. Guess if I went to your spur strap style I could put them on a Headstall . My other half might get jealous I was buying my horse jewelry but not her....trading one problem for another.
Use a utility knife.
Norm Myers the saddle maker 😊

Coincidence? I know a Dan who owns a ranch and a tile shop.. Paradise Valley,
Alright D-M, Jack has everything..
I really enjoy your videos … they either teach me things or re-enforce things I already know! And I use them to show my daughter I’m not the only one who make bridle horses this way! Have a question though … I use a get down rope with a single wrap and bowlin knot. I have seen lots of pics where there are double wraps on get down rope but don’t know the knot to use to make sure it doesn’t tighten. Wondered if you might know how?
Some stories and a joke got you … I grew up 2 miles north of the North Saskatchewan River (it’s a big one with a big steep valley so all our cows have legs longer on one side lol! So anyway .. my horses are sure footed. My father was a paid community pasture rider for years and made multiple big circles every day So I have a lot of respect for you and I’m 61 myself lol. Thanks in advance if you can answer my question from above.

There is not way that we're aware of to wrap the mecate twice around the horse's neck, tie a bowline, and not have one of the wraps come tight if the horse would get in trouble. The reason most people do this is because their get down rope is too long. Our get downs are around 13 feet long.
@@PatnDebPuckett I did come up with this after experimenting a couple hours eventually . I abandoned the bowline and treat it like a rope halter
I can’t seem to post photos in these comments …. I will send it to you on Facebook messenger
Thanks for the lesson on making spurs. Do you use olive oil for your saddle also? Dan from Alaska
No. We don’t ever use olive oil on rough out.
Hello 👋 how are you doing!!?
Garden city? Kansas?
Glad they didn't try to screw his head back on the right direction.
Hello 👋 how are you doing!!?
If you wet that leather a little bit don’t soak it, it’s easier to work with
Chucky cheese?😂😂😂😂😂
