    In this video, Chuck shows viewers how to make boot straps in two different styles. With endless possibilities, these boot straps can be made for western boots, motorcycle, costume and period pieces! We'll make one pair of straps that are simple with just some spots as decoration and then move on to a pair with a little bit more flair.

    This is digital gold!
    I have a pair of wolverine floorhand 10" boots that are 1/2 a size too big in the instep from the leather stretching, a set of these straps will cinch em down enough to be daily drivers.

    I wish there was a Weaver leather supply store nearby, the local competitor doesn't even have cork backed squares. So it's an added cost to make it suitable for leather working.

      Historically they were used to keep the boot on your feet when walking through mud. This is why they were originally on western boots and engineer boots.

    I had a little trouble with the rivets on the keepers. The rivet offset on both of them. I didn't have that difficulty when attaching the buckle. The keeper rivets don't show, so I'm happy with the result!

    It's been a while i've been trying to find a way or an idea to either fix or replace the original straps on my old motorcycle riding boots (the boots were repaired many times but still holding up really well) and you gave me the perfect idea to replace it for something a little different (the current ones are stiched onto the boots) yet really cool and not so diffucult to make ... thanks so much ;)

    Dear Chuck, when marking out with a scratch awl, would you recommend a rounded point to indent the leather or a sharpened point so as to scratch or break the very top surface of the grain. Thank you for your time and attention, I look forward to your reply.

    • @jaredmurray9868
      @jaredmurray9868 Před 4 lety +2

      I have an insanely sharp one and I don't like it much. If you mismark something you're screwed unless you can hide it with burnishing. When I get a second one the old one is definitely getting rounded off. Then I can scribe outside lines with the dull one but have a sharp one to mark holes to be punched and to aid in sewing.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  Před 4 lety +1

      Either one will work - the main point is you want to be able to see where you marked your leather. But, as Jared mentioned, if you mis-mark then you will have a scratch in your leather that might not come out. I do like a sharp awl to mark holes and then I usually hold the awl at an angle for marking my pattern lines so the sharp tip isn't digging into the leather. Hope that help!

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  Před 4 lety +1

      Jared Murray we just wanted to make a basic, simple strap and then one with more flair. You could definitely add a strap to go under the boot on the first one. 👍🏻

      @@WeaverLeatherSupply thank you for the reply. Yes it would be pretty easy to add an under strap but I just though it would help to show it to new folks. Something else that would be cool is another video using chrome or brass ring boot straps on the sides.

    • @blindwit
      @blindwit Před 4 lety +1

      I would only suggest natural wood stains (there are many, like vinegaroon, beet juice, etc.). I wouldn't use something you pull off of a shelf at a big box store, for example.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  Před 4 lety +1

      The wooden strap cutter is great for cutting leather with a little bit more body, but the thin chrome tanned leather is cut easier with a straight edge. I absolutely love my straps cutter for cutting belts, and any other straps using veg tanned or a heavier chrome!
