- Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Aroma 8-cup digital rice cooker and food steamer.LINK TO Aroma 8 cup Rice Cooker: amzn.to/1L0o6zb It measures 9 inches tall by 8 inches wide. It is lightweight.
There are programmable digital controls. There is a 15-hour delay timer and white rice and brown rice functions.
The unit includes a rice measuring cup which is a ¾ cup standard US cup. steam tray, spatula, user manual with recipes and coupons.
The inside has a teflon coating and the pot is aluminum.
This cooker makes 2 to 8 cups of any variety of rice. Vegetables and meat can be steamed above while rice cooks below. You can also make chili, jambalaya and soups in the cooker.
When the rice finishes cooking, the cooker automatically switches to warm mode to keep food warm. Rice should not be left in the cooker on Keep-warm for more than 10 hours.
I’ll test the cooker by making 2 cups of rice. Fill the water to line 2. It took 35 minutes for the rice to finish cooking.
The beans I steamed and the 2 cups of rice were cooked perfectly.
The Aroma 8 cup digital rice cooker and steamer is affordable, easy to use and a great value for money.
I know this video was a long time ago, but I'm thrilled I found it. I bought this same cooker at a thrift store; it's new, but didn't come with an instruction manual. Fortunately, I found that online too, but this was great to watch. Thank you. sj
Same. Just purchased a few days ago.
Just a little bit of advice from an African who cooks and eats rice every single day. Always add a little bit of oil and salt to your water before you cook the rice.
thank you
As a man, I’m very thankful for your videos. It helps me quite a lot
Glad to hear it 😀👍
Easy as pie. Gorgeous results. It’s now sitting on the counter for daily use! Son left it but had no booklet. Perfect every time!
I cook brown rice in mine, with a couple of frozen chicken breasts in the steamer rack at the same time. When the rice is done, the chicken is fully cooked. The newer10-cup version of this cooker has a convenient delay timer.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Cynthia :)

Why do people think we give a sh*t what they cook in their steamer? " I cook human organ tissue in my steamer. I just add diced human kidney to my organic, non-gmo, responsibility sourced, no more tears, dolphin safe, kid and mom approved, and 4 out of 5 dentist recommended, brown rice".
So just for the record to all the people that gave a thumbs up for this post.... I wouldn't recommend putting raw chicken in with rice and cooking it. And on the same note I wouldn't try cooking frozen chicken. Little thing called salmonella lol
Travis Norton 200° F is more than hot enough to kill salmonella. Does the temp inside the frozen breast get to 200° after 15 minutes in a rice cooker? I don't know.
If you are cooking rice, specially short grain rice, when you are away, use the delay setting. White short grain rice will start to turn into "rice pudding" after a couple of hours on the keep warm setting.
For firm short grain white rice that is mostly popular in the Caribbean, the ratio is 1:1. One cup of water, one cup of rice. Rice cookers require less oil than traditional cooking and stir the rice before adding salt to avoid salty spots.
I love mine, 4 years ...and still works perfectly !
Hi Ana, thanks for sharing your experience with us - it'll help others who are looking to buy this rice cooker. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
Jose Gomez Do we just use stemmer, is it necessary to put water in the bottom vessel?
I love this cooking pot!! It really does cook rice to perfection and I can do so many types of rice, I just add my desired ingredients after rice is cooked and then leave to keep warm for a few more mins. White-Brown or Yellow rice with corn, with vegetables, peas, etc. Definitely one of my best buys of 2015. Will try the steamer today, hence my bumping into this vid ^^

First-time -steamer, here... I was gonna choose a pot insert. You changed my mind and now am inspired to use THIS instead!!!
Purchased this 6 months ago and finally decided to try it out
One thinks nothing to a rice cooker, but visualization is tops, hope cooker availability is easy, can't wait to buy it, u make all look easy and scrumptious. Thanks
Glad you liked it 😁
God, I hope there's a way to disable that beeping. I like to make rice at midnight with my parents sleeping in a room nearby, if they heard that it would increase my chances of being kicked out.
I just bought one and sadly, there is NO way to quiet or disable the beep... it was the first thing I wanted to do to it. lol
Over your head Tomek #joke
A lot of electronics have annoying beeps that you can't turn off. The best solution is to figure out how to open them up and disable the buzzers

Set a timer on your phone a minute or two before it goes off.
thanks for the review. I'm totally incompetent at cooking rice on the stovetop; it either ends up as gooey mush or undercooked.
Mine used to also 🙊🙈💩unless i bought minute rice lol but as much as my family and grand babies love rice and i learned to make fried rice also and as much as we eat and as often .....minute rice could get pretty expensive when a large box would only last a cpl days lol literally!! But i found out why it would get so gooey lol thanks 👍to you tube !! 😃😁lol wished ida known long ago 😒.....lol years ago!!! I didnt know you have to rinse rinse rinse and rinse some more !!! Before cooking i never realized 😲just how much starch rice has in /on it!! Lol once i found out and actually tried it out ....YES MOST DEFINATELY!! YES IT Definaty needs to be rinsed VERY VERY GOOD!! but anyway once i did this ive never had any issues with gooey sticky rice again!! Lol so anyway hun my advice to anyone having an issue with cooking REAL rice ...is to make sure u rinse it really really good !! I do till the water runs off it clean / clear and cook as directions say and you should have perfect rice!! 😋 Yummy!! My favorite kinda rice is JASMIN. ....OMG Sooooo DELICIOUS!! Oriental Fried rice . Using Jasmin is my all time favorite 😋and oh so easy❗OMG all this talking about it has made me really craving it now !! 😋Yes i must make some now!! Lol enjoy everyone! P.s. also minute rice is fine ina hurry but it just aint the same!! And yes you can definately tell the😖 difference!! Lol enjoy !🥂
That's why I bought one.
Very much considering getting one of these and an egg steamer as well. Probably could use this to do eggs too but the separate egg machine comes with all the egg-oriented accessories. Thanks for the review!
You're welcome! Thanks for sharing 😀
I appreciate your focussing on the device for the review rather than taking the whole review to talk to me without even having the cooking in the shot like @FarmHouseFull. BUT it would have been useful to hear your thoughts on stuff not already available in the manual. Like how it does as a slow cooker or push it to use as a porridge maker.
Exactly! This just sounds like a commercial.
This is why I subscribe to your channel. You give me step by step instructions to everything like I’m a child and that’s what I’m looking for. You don’t miss nothing down to showing us the booklets of coupons. Lol
I watched one person because you and it was disturbing to watch because it wasn’t enough of details. 4 minutes of my time I can’t get back. Thank you Lady Cooker
😂Glad you like my reviews!
It is a good machine I bought one and it works great. Makes awesome brown rice and you can steam meat at the same time.
Thanks for sharing, John 😀
The water levels in the pot are not accurate measurements. The two cup water line in the rice pot is actually 3 cups of liquid using a measuring cup. I suppose that is because the plastic cup that comes with the rice cooker is only 3/4 of a cup. Why is it done that way? I suppose one could use a full cup of rice and 2 full cups of water with the same results, just more rice. But I am curious why this has been done.
This whole "cup" thing with rice cookers is ridiculous! Its not a true measuring cup. Ive just recently found this out. I bought my rice cooker at a thrift store years ago and it had no instructions or "measuring cup" so I had no idea about the discrepancies. I never payed attention to the water lines on the pot. Ive just always done a 1:2 ration of rice and water using a REAL measuring cup and it has turned out pretty good. But yeah Im with you...why on earth have they done it this way? Too confusing. When they talk "cups" everyone is naturally gonna assume an 8oz measuring cup. If you find out the why please post, LOL.
@@user-ww6cn3iu8i It is a Japanese measurement 180ml I believe.
I got a rice cooker yesterday as a gift...I found your video helpful..thank u😃
You’re welcome 😀
I like your video. I did watch the entire video. I do own an Aroma rice cooker. My recommendation is that you update the title to 'tutorial' or 'product demonstration as it is not truly a review. A typical review would intro with the product name and model number and the list of features. Then after you test the features, then you provide the pros and cons of the product. And there is always a con or nice to have. And then the statement is that there is a product for everyone so then a reviewer would indicate the recommended buyer that they feel could still benefit from the product even with the cons.
I said all of that to say... My Aroma Rice Cooker is an awesome product! Buuuuuut I have to make sure to get the water to rice ratio perfect or it will burn and/or turn my rice to mush. Also, today, I tried something different. I used the recommended water to rice ratio based on the bag of rice and used measuring cups to put the water and rice in the cooker annnnnd you guessed it... It came out perfect!
So, in either case, thanks for sharing your experience and happy reviewing....
I have this rice cooker and I love it. It always makes my rice perfectly! The only down side is that the teflon coating of the inner pot has started to peel off and I have had it less than a year. This makes me nervous to continue using my rice cooker :(
Hey what happened ? did you switch it and how was it ?
You should've used the included spatula only. I have had the same rice cooker for 3 years and it doesn't have any scrathes.
+Julie Winterton Hi Julie, yes you can add veggies to steam anytime during the rice cooking cycle. The countdown at 12 minutes is a good time to steam or a few minutes afterwards depending on how you like your veggies cooked. Hope that helps. Please subscribe :)
i was going to purchase one of this because i really don't have time for cooking but 35minutes for two cups of rice no way I thought this was better for cookinh food faster but thumps down in the stove only takes like 15 minutes
rey746 what I was thinking, the benefit for me, is you can turn it on and walk away. I hate hanging over the stove and therefore burn things:(
what settings for Basmati rice? White or Brown or Sushi rice settings? i have the Aroma Rice Cooker/Multicooker
Hi, use the White Rice setting to cook Basmati Rice :)
I looked at a few videos and yours is the best. Straight to it. Great info. Very simple directions and you made it simple to understand. Thank you!
You’re welcome 😀
Thanks for the vid. I wasn't sure if my rice was cooking because of the vague display and buttons.
How do you do your video editing? It's very smooth and professional. Thanks for the good instructional.
I put a little vegetable oil then the rice, water and salt and garlic powder it’s delicious 🤤
Now this is what I call a real review. Nice job
Thanks, Jorge 😀
bestkitchenreviews Not a problem at all. I love when people show things step by step. 👌🏻
If I want to cook steamed chicken in an ordinary rice cooker. Exactly how much water is it necessary to use and for how long it has to be cooked?
Thank you so much for showing us how to use it.
😀👍
Great video with clear and precise explanations.
+Jamie Barrs Thank You, glad you liked the review! Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
Wow, me encanta. Con mi arrocera Aromo hago maravillas. Me fascinaría tener este nuevo modelo. 😀
i just bough this rice cooker on offerup today! tired of eating out, hopefully this is a step to a lifestyle change! thank you for your help
Glad it was helpful 😁
I have had this one for a long time and I haven't used it much but I guess maybe I have been doing it wrong I am whipping it out again and going to try using it.
sorry for my language but this shit is AMAZING. i never cook and this got me to cook so much
Monkey D Luffy2 it's the Internet no need to apologies for language lol but I agree it works amazing and it's not that expensive
This is more like nuking, then it is cooking.. Buuuuut congrats to you and your progress.
Can I cook rice and at 15 min. add vegies to steam? Wonderful video, my husband threw my instructions away. First time to use it.
Can you cook veggies and rice at the same time? Thanks
I appreciate this video so much. very helpful. I asked my husband to buy at Target right now. thank you for doing an excellent job.
+maria theresa Cardona You're welcome, glad it was helpful :)
I have a ricer that's over 22 years old and still going. It has a steamer basket and a hand dial timer. With all the new types of rice, I have to play it by ear as to how much for how long
I came here again after I needed to how use this machine. Thank you for a great video
👍😀
Its a life changer, I love it
I purchased it and it makes perfect rice👍🏽👍🏽
Yes!
Awesome :)
Just to be sure, what is the delay timer and how is it used? I'd like to be able to program the cooker so it starts cooking at a a certain time while I'm away and logically be finished around when I'm due to arrive back home. Having up to 15 hours before it starts cooking is a very comfortable maximum. I hope the delay timer works something like that. Thanks for the helpful video.
This is great! In the process of simultaneously making brown rice and cabbage
I don't have directions with mine, I bought it at a sale and it has no tray. I'm excited to use it
I just got one of these and though I am a novice cook, I really like the Aroma Rice Cooker. Currently I am giddy looking for all sorts of recipes online :)
+Leo Farias Hi Leo, thanks for sharing. It's always fun to try recipes in a new cooker! Please subscribe :)
Thank you so much! I am going to start teaming rice from now on,
I use this thing almost daily . This was a very great Deal I just have one issue and that is that the water pools up on top of this thing making it impossible to open the lid while it's in use .
Works Really Great for Mac and cheese any type of pasta or frozen veggies
There is no mention that steamer tray is made out of PLASTIC. Otherwise amazing review. thanks!
When my mom makes rice in a regular pot she always adds a bit of oil and salt to the water. Do you do the same with a slow cooker (because I did not see that in your video)?
Hi Maddi, you could add oil and salt if you wish, it's really personal preference :)
I add oil and salt. It makes a huge difference. Tastes just like my mom's.
I add oil, salt and garlic powder
Thank you for this direct and easy to follow video. Not too much but just right.
👍😀
I got the same rice cooker... But for some reason it burns the rice on bottom so I usually stop it least 3 mins before it stops.
Royce Begay COAT THE METAL BOWL WITH ANY KIND OF OIL AND IT WILL STOP BURNING THE RICE HAVE A NICE DAY
+jason padilla the oil is not a good idea for people on diet the burning in the bottom usually happens because of the less water or because putting one cup of rice only
In Puerto Rico we add oli if your on a diet then don't use it
You must rinse the rice really well first, take the excess starch off of it, that is what burns. :)
Can you cook a box of beef rice a roni in the bottom of A 8 cup Aroma Rice Cooker and steam veggies on top at the same time? And do you choose brown rice setting or white rice setting?
I ended up buying a new one, the Aroma one for $30, no boil over:) My other one was an old Krups. Thanks for your help BieberIsMyLife
How much time for Broccoli ? I have the basic aroma rice cooker with cook and warm option.
Thinking of steaming vegetables in that one only.
Was wondering how much time for broccoli and how much water to add?
Emma Beth I will say 10 min and add two cups of water using the cup included
Thanks Gerado !!!
You should make a video tutorial on how to make a good video review, this is awesome!! BTW I bought one of those Aroma rise cookers after this. Waiting for deliver. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Totally makes this worth it. Glad you liked the review. Enjoy cooking!
+bestkitchenreviews No Thank YOU, good job, keep it up!
Can you cook wild rice in this as well? I want to simplify my diet and eat more quinoa and wild rice with steamed veggies and fish. Thanks!
I have yet to actually try to make boiled eggs in one of these, but I would imagine that it's no different than steaming a handful of spaghetti noodles like I usually do.
nice vidio but it should show that it is quicker and better if you cook the vegetables while the rice boil, then alt clear at the same time, and you save lots of time, and you still get the nice crisp vegetables.
can you cook the rice and vegetable together?
Hi, yes they can be cooked together :)
bestkitchenreviews arent the vegetables going to overcook?
You cook the rice on the bottom and add vegetables to the steamer basket at any time during the rice cycle. So, if you want the vegetables to cook for only 5 minutes, you can add it during the last 5 minutes of the rice cooking cycle. Hope that helps :)
bestkitchenreviews i see. thanks!!!!!
:)
What brand long grain rice did you use please? I find that my rice comes our a little stick after using a rice cooker.
***** Hi Drayah, I use Basmati rice - any brand that is available at the store :-)
Thank you, I am going to try that brand.
You're welcome, hope it works well :-)
I have an Elite rice cooker/steamer and it just the right size for 1 person.
2 years and works great
Thanks for sharing 😀
Thanks. I have another brand of cooker and the rice sticks like crazy . I am looking for a better brand and I like this review so far. Thanks
Glad it was helpful :)
You explained everything thoroughly very good
+Esther Rivera Thanks Esther, glad you liked the review :)
i have a version of this aroma cooker and i follow the rice to water instructions but i have gotten a dried film at the bottom of the pot like the rice or its starch is overcooking and drying out in its own layer. any way to avoid this? more water? rince the rice better before cooking? thanks in advance... great vid
Nice review. I love my Aroma Rice Cooker!
Thrifty Coupon Diva Thanks, glad you liked the review :-)
I love mine too!
Thrifty Coupon Diva ok u
It is recommended that you use a finger cot due to that bandage on your finger.
Might be a dumb question but the little cover on the steam vent are we supposed to remove that during rice being cooked or leave it on?
Can you make rice and steam vegetables in one setting?
Bought mine and cook rice very well but the rice 🍚 create slime after two days in the cooker when it is set on warm. Now I have to cook rice every day to avoid trashing my food. That sucks for me..
I have a smaller version tha my parents have me as a gift from the casino and its awesome! Lol
Wonderful 😀
LOL
Lmaoo love the honesty
It's actually a pretty nice rice cooker.
So steam/smoke is coming out of the lid crease, not the vent... is that bad? this is my first rice cooker so I dunno. Also, could i open the lid while it's cooking?
I really enjoyed your video! I’m seriously considering buying this rice cooker. I wanted to ask, what is the life span for this product? I’ve heard that some rice cookers develop issues like a warped cooking pot.
This seems like a poor design the vegetable in steamer juice will leak into rice through holes ?
So I can put my cooked shrimp in the steamer while the rice is cooking as well?
Can you cook rice and steam veggies at the same time?
Necesito el manual en el idioma Español,tengo una y no he podido usarla por no tener el instructivo, si posible, gracias, alguien me dijo página 36,pero no asi.
Why don't you cook the green been while cooking rice? I have a question
+sAnFran Hi, you can cook the beans and rice at the same time. I just wanted to keep them separate for this review.
bestkitchenreviews oh ok thanks
How is it as a slow cooker?
Me encanta muy bueno y muy rico 😋 el arroz 🍚 quedé fascinada 😀 saludos desde México 🇲🇽
Can you cook rice and steam your veggies at the same time?
The first time I used this, the rice came out perfect. Every single time after that, the rice sticks on the bottom and rice juice is everywhere, sprays all over the counter. I'm using the exact same measurements. What is going on?
Can you cook the veggies in basket on top at the same time as the rice?? Thx!
maddcoop Yes you can :-)
bestkitchenreviews don't know how that works. thinking that veggies will turn into a veggie pasta if steamed for more than 30 min along with the rice
I like this rice cooker! just bought one
+Carlos Ortiz Thanks for sharing, Carlos :)
how long will this stay on the "keep warm mode"?
Kerstin P it should not be left on keep warm for longer than 10 hours.
People say cooking in a rice cooker is quicker than cooking in a pot .... how ??? I’ve never had a problem (except when I first started) cookin rice in a pot
I bought this one 3 years ago, after 4 months it stopped working. It does not start at all.. I still have it don't know what to do.
That good
😀
My Aroma 3 cup cooker has the glass lid...and makes a horrible mess with the steam escaping the lid (during boiling part) despite the little steam hole on the glass lid. I see that this unit you have doesn't have a steam hole. Q: How does the steam escape on this model? thanks. 🤗
Hi, there is a steam vent on the lid and you can see it in the video at around :45 😀
Can you cook the rica and green beans at the same time?
Where can I get the steam tray? Mine broke, I ordered one from the aroma website and it’s tiny!!
Could I cook my rice and steam vegetables at the same time, and could I put corn in the bottom vessel but steam another vegetable like broccoli on top at the same time?
Hi, yes you can cook rice and steam vegetables at the same time. It is best to wait for the rice countdown at 12 minutes and then add the vegetables to be steamed. I haven't tried putting a vegetable in the bottom vessel and steaming another on top. It should work but the vegetable on the bottom would be sitting in water. Hope that helps 😀
Great video and review 😊.
Do you cook rice first before meats and such? Or can you do them together?
This video was very helpful.
Glad it helped :)
Thanks!
Thanks from Egypt: )
+peace& love You’re welcome 😀
Has anyone tried to cook quinoa in this ?? whats the ratio and how long do you cook ??
Can you use frozen veggies
Yes, definitely :)
